hm, some of the 'observations' made in that Lana piece - on the distance between her and her image, and the focus on the visual, and things speaking 'through' here - feel a little familiar to me.

at last count there were roughly 1.5 million monkeys at typewriters banging out Lana Del Rey thinkpieces so there's bound to be some reoccurring themes

i just had to search "tumblr whites" because somehow i missed its glory until now.

That phrase always made me sorta IA and sounds so stupid and meaningless

just to make clear, the glory i'm referring to is its absurdity and irony

i wrote a grand total of two reviews for spin and they were both totally horrible experiences (i was not a professional writer or journalist), and once i told an editor there that i should really have my own column - cuz i was drunk and my job at the beer store in philly afforded me plenty of time to not give a fuck - and he said: why is it always people like YOU that asks for a column? i didn't know what to say to that but i kinda wanted the names of the people like me cuz i was lonely at the time and would have totally hung with people like me. he also called me at the beer store once - all in the name of one completely forgettable 300 word review - and ended up yelling into the phone IS YOUR LIFE SO MUCH BETTER AND COOLER THAN MINE???!!! - and at that moment i was hungover and poor and staring at a drunk who wanted to pay for his 40 oz in pennies and i was like no dude i doubt it.

I value whiney's contributions to ilx, now more than ever

picked this up in the aiport yesterday, definitely looked really cool

Picked mine up as well... Is this seriously 308% or whatever heavier than the last issues? It's about 308% heavier than a supermarket circular. It's very, very nice though. I will definitely be subscribing and I really hope people latch on to this.

i dunno, because its one thing for people to call me out on Twitter and Tumblr when its part of "the conversation" and a completely different thing for people who are active members of a small message board community to snipe at each other with nitpicky minutae of their IRL lives?

I think there is a distinct difference to this thread and Whiney's general presence on the interent: the "corny indie fuxx" stance is how Whiney feels and is an opinion he flings about, which you are fully free to find annoying/hateful/whatever. This thread in particular relates to Whiney's job, and thus he is hoping that maybe folks actually talk about Spin, and what they do and don't like about the changes, as opposed to attacking him (and vicariously the magazine) for the other things he gets up to. Lots of other threads to attack Whiney on, maybe this isn't the place?
