kid cudi sampler track is mind-blowingly bad, too. so dismal! snapshots from an album made while asleep. kind of want to hear the whole thing.

my understanding is that the alyssa reid track went to #1 in canada; the revised format has gone to #1 in the uk

The Alyssa Reid track never got to #1 in Canada, or at least not on the Canadian Hot 100. We just finally got a Canadian number #1 that wasn't related to some sort of event or charity a few weeks ago with Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe, the first since Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend.

Alyssa Reid didn't go to #1 in Canada but it was the most requested/played/etc. Canadian song on Canadian radio of 2011. Not in any particular week, just like...consistently, overall, etc. it was spun more times than any other Canadian song.

Macklemore the first track on this thread that I haven't been able to listen to all the way through.

Macklemore is a perfect example of a really sweet awesome guy making music that's so Seattle/Pacific NW centric that civic pride alone is making him a local superstar. He can sell out Safeco Field here, do very well in Portland, then so far crickets elsewhere. Again, personally I wish him the best, but I knew from the first verse I've heard from him "ilx's gonna be so allergic to Macklemore, we'll need ER"

though lol Sacramento ever having this
... I don't think Macklemore is terrible overall, actually. The backing tracks are ok. I can't get past the wheezy asthmatic flow. And there's one jokey disco/party song released that's terrible. I haven't heard the above yet, though.
― ma ck ro ma ck ro (mackro mackro), Monday, 5 March 2012 17:43 (fourteen years ago)
the above is a jokey disco/party song

On R.I.O. and U-Jean's "Turn This Club Around" upthread:The most utterly generic thing I could imagine possible in 2012.
Agreed! I came across this last year from looking at the German charts, where it was massive. The fact that U-Jean was a US army guy who was in a military band and then stayed in Germany to pursue a pop career is many times more interesting than the music.
