I'm going to playing records at a thing tonight, trying to decide which song from Lulu I should play.

Kind of feeling "Cheat on Me"

"Pumping Blood" from ILXLULU

Clancy Fans and Fancy Clans (Eazy), Thursday, 1 March 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

"Iced Honey" would be my party mix pick

some dude, Thursday, 1 March 2012 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

I'd love to play anything from the two pre-Lulu records but I only have the ability to plan vinyl tonight.

I was thinking "Iced Honey" as well, I might play both

chr1sb3singer, Thursday, 1 March 2012 19:17 (fourteen years ago)

put "dragon" on and run

Whiney vs. (BradNelson), Thursday, 1 March 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

deep house remix of junior dad

the wild eyed boy from soundcloud (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 1 March 2012 20:24 (fourteen years ago)

when does the remix album drop anyway? heard moby does some sick things to "cheat on me."

tylerw, Thursday, 1 March 2012 20:34 (fourteen years ago)

I believe my reaction to a Moby remix of any of this record would be similar to yr average Metallica fans reaction to the real thing.

chr1sb3singer, Thursday, 1 March 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

also rumored to be a will.i.am remix of iced honey w/ a mustaine cameo verse.

"Brandenburg Gate" (feat. Sean Paul)

chr1sb3singer, Thursday, 1 March 2012 21:55 (fourteen years ago)

i would def play "the view"

⚓ (gr8080), Thursday, 1 March 2012 23:31 (fourteen years ago)

"The View (Tyler the Creator remix feat. Rihanna)"

tylerw, Thursday, 1 March 2012 23:32 (fourteen years ago)

I ended up playing "Brandenburg Gate". No one went crazy and stormed the booth.

chr1sb3singer, Friday, 2 March 2012 14:20 (fourteen years ago)

"The View" imo was such a wrong choice for first single and would be equally wrong as a DJ night pick

i love "Brandenburg Gate" so fucking much

some dude, Friday, 2 March 2012 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

Lou turned 70 yesterday, y'all.

SMALL TOWN GIRLLLLL

Whiney vs. (BradNelson), Friday, 2 March 2012 17:30 (fourteen years ago)

from The Raven to Lulu -- Lou's 60s were nutty! Will his 70s keep the streak alive? Never stop, Lou, never stop.

tylerw, Friday, 2 March 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

happy birthday lou you are the greatest person

klipsch OTM:

An undeniable truth comes through in Lou's music-a gritty passion mixed with beautiful surrealism. You can hear it with your gut as much as your ears.

two months pass...

Lou and band will perform material from Reed’s entire cannon of songs ranging from the Velvet Underground to his recent Metallica collaborative album LULU.
what a radical concept -- he'll play his greatest hits and some songs from his latest album!

Last night's set in Amsterdam

Brandenburg Gate
Heroin
Waiting for the Man
Senselessly Cruel
The View
Mistress Dread
Street Hassle
Cremation
Think It Over
Walk On the Wild Side
Sad Song
Junior Dad
--
Sweet Jane

It was awesome, except for it being a seated event (but then again, that's why I was able to take notes on the setlist). I've still not heard a single note from Lulu but based on last night I should remedy that asap (album was not available at the marketing booth when I arrived) - man I loved those songs, esp. "The View" (great delivery by Lou) and Junior Dad. Vocals very weak/false at the start, but they improved later on. Even though he can barely sing anymore, the power of his voice is at times impressive. Guitar skills were left to the 2/3 other guitarists (loved the band, Joan As Policewoman was in there too) and I got the feeling that they killed Lou's output at the mixing board at times. More bandleader than guitarplayer.

First four songs were half of the performance! Both "Heroin" and "Waiting.." went on for 20 odd minutes, didn't feel the former that much, the latter was fantastic. The sax player played a prepared saxophone that made some incredible artifical noises which I didn't really like most of the time but I was so impressed by his stamina during "Waiting.." during which he played the same two-bar riff the piano/keyboard does throughout the song. 20 minutes!

"Street Hassle" opened the second section of the show, which was way more 'easy on the ears' than the first (as you can guess from the setlist) and for which most of the audience probably came (a few people left during the first hour and I saw quite some people being shocked/not able to process the Lulu stuff). "Street Hassle", "Cremation", "Sad Song" and "Junior Dad" were the highlights of the second hour. Fun night! Lou had fun too. And loved us, he said.

sounds awesome, wish he'd consider taking this show to the states

bronytheus (some dude), Friday, 15 June 2012 11:44 (thirteen years ago)

There's probably some sort of Hal Wilner/Lulu/guest vocalist live-collab performance thingy on the way, I was told over the weekend (while in Amsterdam, as it happens). Won't be for a few months yet, though.

i would love to witness the power of lulu live

Mistress Dread
Street Hassle

This is a brilliant one-two punch!

chr1sb3singer, Friday, 15 June 2012 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

yeah that's really brilliant.

the alternate vision continues his vision quest! (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 17:26 (thirteen years ago)

3:37 KARATE PUNCH

different/more lyrics too

fireworks!

why do they applaud for the line "stars that never last forever/stars that burn out and disappear"? (other than the fact that lou rules)

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 17:45 (thirteen years ago)

i think because of the fireworks? not sure if that's the videographer being clever or whether the fireworks actually went off at that point. lou was probably like "whoa did i just create a new planetary system again?!"

tylerw, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 17:47 (thirteen years ago)

I keep hoping this gets bumped due to the announcement of a sequel.

Electric BoogaLULU

tylerw, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:34 (thirteen years ago)

i had a weird thought when this got bumped, speculating what the interviews w/ metallica members are going to be like when lou dies

♆ (gr8080), Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:37 (thirteen years ago)

i was just wondering what they're going to be like when they have a new record to promote and every interviewer inevitably asks "sooooo what was up w/ Lulu." I imagine the answer will be something vague along the lines of "it was a great experience." and then a soundbite about how the new record is the best thing they've ever done.

tylerw, Tuesday, 17 July 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)

here's another clue for you lames
the table was james
