WOW "Alone Again" is so terrible I had to turn it off before the second chorus. speaking of which, does it strike anyone else as kind of... out of place?

like, I always took the Heart song as a kind of desperate aching love plea—'how do I get you alone (so that I can tell you all my feelings and the naughty things I want to do with you, because oooh baby I got it bad 4 u)'—whereas Alyssa Reid is like, 'how do I get you alone, wait I mean me not alone, because I am so lonely right now that I can't even write a proper hook'

okay I listened to almost that entire Cudi youtube posted here, and while I don't wanna judge him too harshly on the basis of out-of-context excerpts, can I just say: 'most people are pussies' is not a very good lyric. and this album sounds about as sonically adventurous as MILK on TOAST

The Alyssa Reid track never got to #1 in Canada, or at least not on the Canadian Hot 100. We just finally got a Canadian number #1 that wasn't related to some sort of event or charity a few weeks ago with Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe, the first since Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend.

Alyssa Reid didn't go to #1 in Canada but it was the most requested/played/etc. Canadian song on Canadian radio of 2011. Not in any particular week, just like...consistently, overall, etc. it was spun more times than any other Canadian song.

Macklemore is a perfect example of a really sweet awesome guy making music that's so Seattle/Pacific NW centric that civic pride alone is making him a local superstar. He can sell out Safeco Field here, do very well in Portland, then so far crickets elsewhere. Again, personally I wish him the best, but I knew from the first verse I've heard from him "ilx's gonna be so allergic to Macklemore, we'll need ER"

... I don't think Macklemore is terrible overall, actually. The backing tracks are ok. I can't get past the wheezy asthmatic flow. And there's one jokey disco/party song released that's terrible. I haven't heard the above yet, though.

Agreed! I came across this last year from looking at the German charts, where it was massive. The fact that U-Jean was a US army guy who was in a military band and then stayed in Germany to pursue a pop career is many times more interesting than the music.

I have a unjustifiable affection for pretty much everything R.I.O does.
