there's a very condescending "meet them halfway" attitude madonna seems to have to catering to the charts that more and more ends up at the exact wrong halfway point

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 20:13 (fourteen years ago)

Between the Super Bowl and this track I am p convinced she is just going through the motions w the bare minimum of effort. Who produced this? Maybe the Orbit tracks will redeem her?

I have one thing to say: "Roxanne Shanté" (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 20:23 (fourteen years ago)

Most of her efforts these days lie in film-making.

prolego, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

"Efforts."

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 20:52 (fourteen years ago)

Most of her efforts lie in trying to physically turn back the hands of time. Which is her prerogative, but she should't pretend her music is nearly as impressive as her physique.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

Wouldn't want Madonna to get a big head.

da croupier, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

there's a good argument to be made that this new single is the worst thing that madonna has ever committed to record

― lex pretend, Wednesday, February 29, 2012 5:08 AM (Yesterday)

I always think Jimmy Jimmy is the very worst thing she's ever recorded. Every year or so I listen to it and crrrringe.

oh it's cute, at worst negligible.

Plus, it was buried on the second side.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 1 March 2012 20:19 (fourteen years ago)

you have to admit that madonna keeps up with linguistic fashion for using "punk rock" as an adjective. i'm serious about this.

well doesn't that just make everyone feel like a knee-jerk everything's-gotta-be-a-drug-ref...ist

fauxmarc, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 18:52 (fourteen years ago)

I don't even want to know what's happening back there

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 18:55 (fourteen years ago)

It's like opening the Necromonicon.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

Q: is mymdna a social networking site for madonna fans?
A: well, there's already manhunt

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 6 March 2012 18:59 (fourteen years ago)

The Madonna-is-old jokes make you look bad and are...old. There's enough bad music being pumped out by this woman to poke fun at instead.

Cousin Slappy, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 21:25 (fourteen years ago)

Well, I will say there is a distinction to be made between someone who is old and someone who is old and trying to act young. For sure Madonna has been "old" for a while now, both literally and figuratively, but in general she has surmounted society's prejudices. Not this time, though.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

oh cmon, "opening the Necronomicon" is a good line

Pup Shalom Dog Costume (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 21:53 (fourteen years ago)

how is that a "Madonna is old" joke

Vaseline MEN AMAZING JOURNEY (DJP), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

The Necronomicon is old? Dead things are old?

BTW, I think Madonna's awesome mother/*ucker shirt was her smartest, cleverest statement on age.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 22:36 (fourteen years ago)

Her arms are her worst.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

But the best at cracking walnuts!

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 23:02 (fourteen years ago)

personally I'm waiting for someone to splice that anigif with the face-melting scene from Raiders

L-R: Madonna, Madonna

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 23:03 (fourteen years ago)

It was more a Madonna is evil rather than a Madonna is old joke, but hey.

Thankfully this track is *much* better, but I mean it'd be exceedingly difficult to make something worse than GGW

Joan Cusack clumsily running into a water fountain (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 15:04 (fourteen years ago)

Music gets pretty zzzzz around 0:24 but the vocals are pretty great throughout

Joan Cusack clumsily running into a water fountain (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

And now here's another snippet of a track ("Love Spent")

"Bad Girl" that's not.

Oh God, she's gone back to her American Life phase where every other word in the song is either "I" or "me."

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:02 (fourteen years ago)

She's also gone back to her American Life phase of sucking.

I Fucked Up (jer.fairall), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:06 (fourteen years ago)

Album appears to be in *ahem* circulation now. GGW was not just a bad choice to open the album, but a bad choice altogether (this can't be restated often enough).

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 04:44 (fourteen years ago)

The album is shockingly pretty damn brilliant. The singles are somehow the worst songs on the album (which for someone with 30 years experience in the industry and for being well Madonna is ridiculous).

prolego, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 05:01 (fourteen years ago)

The acoustic "Love Spent" on one of the deluxe editions is pretty goddamn great.

Reality Check Cashing Services (Elvis Telecom), Friday, 23 March 2012 23:48 (fourteen years ago)

"B-Day Song" is like some ridiculous joke and I absolutely adore it

Joan Cusack clumsily running into a water fountain (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 24 March 2012 01:42 (fourteen years ago)

so is this one of those cases where you have to get the deluxe editions to get the better tracks ?

mark e, Monday, 26 March 2012 13:50 (fourteen years ago)

has she ever attempted a song like "B-Day Song"? It's like ABBA attempting a kid's song played on live instruments by Muppets.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 26 March 2012 14:16 (fourteen years ago)

"i'm addicted" is pretty awesome

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 26 March 2012 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

and i'm not sure about "gang bang" but it's... genuinely disturbing

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 26 March 2012 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

"gang bang" is the best thing here imo

"i don't give a" and "i'm addicted" are the other two that stood out and if i'm being honest the chorus of "give me all your luvin'" is stuck in my head a great deal of the time. it sounds less good when i actually play it, because madonna's voice is a total husk now, it drags down decent songs/fails to elevate catchy-but-basic bubblegum tunes/sinks each of the ballads.

lex pretend, Monday, 26 March 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

"i'm addicted" is great and sort of what i wanted this whole record to sound like, given the title mdna

Whiney vs. (BradNelson), Monday, 26 March 2012 18:00 (fourteen years ago)

"Gang Bang" might grow on me but right now it's just super annoying

THIS TRADE SERVES ZERO FOOTBALL PURPOSE (DJP), Monday, 26 March 2012 18:08 (fourteen years ago)

haaaaaa I just got to the dubstep bridge

THIS TRADE SERVES ZERO FOOTBALL PURPOSE (DJP), Monday, 26 March 2012 18:09 (fourteen years ago)

well this whole song is just spectacularly falling apart

I just cannot take "DRIVE BITCH/NOW DIE BITCH" very seriously

THIS TRADE SERVES ZERO FOOTBALL PURPOSE (DJP), Monday, 26 March 2012 18:11 (fourteen years ago)

"I'm Addicted" is actually a good song

After the two singles and "Gang Bang", I was not expecting this
