"Arm and hammer propaganda" like...hammer and sickle. Propaganda. Soviet Propaganda. how were you not getting that? The style of rap you're referring to with nicki minaj is called "hashtag rap", because it resembles a tweet where the punchline is the hashtag. everyone is fully aware that lil mama and soulja boy are terrible rappers, the reason they exist is because they use ideas that people are supposed to DANCE to, not listen to and go "OHHH THAT WAS SUCH A HOT LYRIC OH WOW" and they represent the more ignorant form of rap because why would you want to THINK about what you're listening to while you're dancing to it? that's what makes it fun. whoa, lil wyte and aaron carter are bad rappers on principle? gee, you don't say. gucci mane is a trap rapper, white people aren't supposed to 'get' their lyrics, because they're heavily coded by trap nigga drawl and copious amounts of 'slang'. and apparently you're missing the entire point of lemonade. "Grits" = ci/garettes/, for example. then again, the fact that you actually appreciate wale says a lot about your credibility in writing about how 'bad' rap lyrics are. sorry, not everything can be as 'brilliant' as neutral milk hotel. talk to your only black friend and ask them before your next article about this (which, hopefully won't happen at all).

YourWelcome 0 minutes ago in reply to Acewonders
Dear AceWonders, Its hilariously ironic that YOUR PROLIFIC IGNORANCE has made it onto a website called - THOUGHT CATALOG. Your name is appropriate, because you really do make me wonder what possessed you to pull the race card (pun intended). I'm black, and I'm ashamed of you. Why are you so defensive about people's lyrics and a white girl's (black, asian, hispanic's) opinions of them? Let Young Dro pull the punchs on his own ish, you don't have to jump to his defense and be like oooo ooo this and that...yes its real that that lyric has more intelligent content than Ms. Fagan has given credit, but DAMN chill out. I interpreted her introduction to be a satirical disclaimer, not a "real" im so bad ass invitation to sh*t on all of these people because she has the authority as a hip hop veteran. Your argument is more socioeconomic than racial.

Well this made me laugh, we could add a hundred more "songs" to this. I really love rap and hip hop bc I can totally relate. I mean a song all about a hoe and smoking blunts, wow just living the dream. Who cares if the writer knows ANYTHING about rap, the fact that most of this shit exists is sad. Even better songs are rapping about ridin on dubs and smackin bitches....oh America....
― a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 20:03 (fourteen years ago)
The Reverend wrote this on thread WHAT KILLED THE UNDERGROUND on board I Love Music on Aug 29, 2007
I haven't read the whole thread, but the Defari & J-Zone bits at the top and bottom are definitely what's up. I hate the hiphop scene here, because the only things that get championed are nerd rappers with names like Common Market and Optimus Rhyme (actually, that's a great name, but damn if I wanna listen to anyone who calls himself that) and Macklemore, who raps about his white liberal guilt, and anything that sounds like it was made by actual humans, instead of backpack-bots gets overlooked.
:((((((((((

I don't care if you're white black a bitch or a fucking bum off of the streets. If you rap about shooting people, smoking blunts, wearing timbs, drinking hennessy, and whatever else, I'll buy your music. If you rap about your girl, but don't call her a bitch, fuck you. If you rap about the economy and how its hurts migrant workers, fuck you. If you rap about your rap telekenisis or some equally retarded nerd shit, fuck you. That basically how I break it down to an extent.
