it continues to amaze me that her only single dropped NINE MONTHS AGO and hasn't charted in six months, and she still keeps getting more press coverage in bigger outlets. has anyone ever milked one minor hit more? if she doesn't release anything in 2012 she could be on the cover of Time by the end of the year.

Gerardo? Sysqo? Tiny Tim?
― erotic war comedy pollster (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 February 2012 17:48 (fourteen years ago)
actually I think it would be pretty cool if kreay never made another record and just became a pure celebrity, like some frankenstein monster of kim kardashian, lady sovereign, and gg allin
― I GUESS THAT CINNABON GETTIN EATEN (Edward III), Thursday, 23 February 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)
those were top 10 hits (top 20 in Tiny Tim's case) supported by major album releases, and probably didn't get that much critical attention from the print media. i'm talking about a song people keep dedicating tons of column inches to the year after it spent a couple weeks in the lower half of the Hot 100. xpost
― some dude, Thursday, 23 February 2012 17:53 (fourteen years ago)
it's just kind of crazy to me because these days even huge stars have to keep pumping out new music from month or month or even week to week to keep people paying attention to them and then there's kreayshawn
― some dude, Thursday, 23 February 2012 17:54 (fourteen years ago)
is it bcuz of v-nasty?
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 23 February 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
fanning the 'fascinating racial dynamic' flames has definitely helped, yeah
― some dude, Thursday, 23 February 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
bcuz that's the only real LOOK, SHOCK VALUE thing or whatever. otherwise it's a pretty normal pop song, unless people are still getting hit by the shockwaves of a white female rapping
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 23 February 2012 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
i mean i totally know WHY crits can't stop chin-stroking or other kinds of stroking for months on end but i guess i'm impressed by their stamina

the weirdest thing to me is that GQ is usually pretty on the curve in terms of covering music as far as men's magazines go. if you had told me "the march 2012 issue of 'esquire' has a kreayshawn feature" i'd have been like "ha, well yeah, that definitely makes sense" but it was pretty puzzling to see it in GQ
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:00 (fourteen years ago)
and they pimp a lot of their big features now online before the mag hits stores... it's almost as if they were embarrassed about having to run that story or something
those were top 10 hits (top 20 in Tiny Tim's case) supported by major album releases, and probably didn't get that much critical attention from the print media.
have to draw rough equivalencies here, since top 10 hits/print media/major album releases don't mean the same thing then as they did now. I'd say Kreay is roughly equivalent to their level of fame is all - I'd wager roughly similar numbers of people are familiar with her, and for similar reasons (goofy persona + catchy tune)
xp
― erotic war comedy pollster (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)
don't mean the same thing NOW as they did THEN
argh
― erotic war comedy pollster (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:02 (fourteen years ago)
i dunno didn't GQ just get around to their 'this just in: rick ross is kind of ridiculous' expose like 2 months ago? also that hilarious 'drake, wale and kid cudi: GANGSTA KILLERS' thing before that? they seem pretty square and tryhard imo.

oh c'mon kreayshawn is totally not remotely as famous as sisqo was, do you have to walk around not knowing shit in every thread shakey
she's totally pwning LDR in this game, all she has to do is take a crap and she gets press
meanwhile imagine how many performance coaching sessions LDR has been subjected to in the past 30 days, must be like some glee ludovico technique going on over in that camp
― I GUESS THAT CINNABON GETTIN EATEN (Edward III), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:05 (fourteen years ago)
No way is she a famous as tiny tim! He got married on the johnny carson show

― some dude, Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:16 (fourteen years ago)
she can't even get on gerardo's level yet, dude warranted a weird al parody
honestly i bet more people even today would at least know tiny tim's name over kreayshawn
― dave coolier (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)
actually weird al might do a good job with Gucci Gucci, maybe something about Charlie Brown like "Snoopy Snoopy" or something....

this would be an interesting bet
basically would break along generational lines, nobody under the age of 30 knows Tiny Tim, whereas nobody over the age of 50 knows Kreayshawn
― erotic war comedy pollster (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

Gucci Gucci youtube views = 31 millionTiny Tim Tonight Show wedding viewers = 24.1 million
fyi

it would be pretty impossible to seperate who knows THAT tiny tim's name from people who are familiar with 'a christmas carol' so probably best to drop that as an example
― some dude, Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)
there are sooo many ppl under the age of 30 that don't know who kreayshawn is

not even sure what this thought experiment is supposed to prove, the ratio of newsprint spilled in relation to record sales once you get outside the mega superstars has to be all over the map
― I GUESS THAT CINNABON GETTIN EATEN (Edward III), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)
lol @ newsprint
character bytes or w/e
that was just from a single youtube video, there are definitely a lot more. do you want me to aggregate them and do some statistical analysis or something
― erotic war comedy pollster (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)
can you cook me up a coefficient of variance on kreayshawn youtube views? also be sure to factor in campus utility data
― I GUESS THAT CINNABON GETTIN EATEN (Edward III), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)
Tiny Tim's wikipedia entry, which cites an interview he gave in 1974, which has (of course) been lol removed for a copyright claim. I suspect those are Nielsen numbers tho.
― erotic war comedy pollster (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)
that single youtube video is pretty much kreayshawn's entire career, though
― some dude, Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)
no, I meant that that's the view count on a single upload of the video - there are a whole bunch of other uploads of the same video, each with their own view counts
― erotic war comedy pollster (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)
There is a fairly diverse demographic in my office of about 120 or so and I can guarantee that none of these people know who Kreay is. all of them know the words to the thong song tho
― Aerosol, Thursday, 23 February 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)
tiny tim used to live in the penthouse suite of the hotel fort des moines
