i like the little i've heard of roc marciano, it doesn't happen my way that often i guess

the mixtape is really reminiscent of wayne in between carter II and carter III, but if someone actually set out to replicate the innate weirdness of that era instead of just being like "gotta get me that autotune!" which is fair or unfair is part of wayne's legacy

― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, February 21, 2012 8:41 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

id say hes less lyrical than that era of wayne but he does also seem to have PRESENCE which is a promising sign imo

This is right on.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:35 (fourteen years ago)

honestly too the track is amazing, a real interesting way to flip a classic NYC production style, it's almost like the producer just started making the first bar of a beat and then decided to leave it, and the minimalism makes it sound so spooky and new even though the actual sample and drums are pretty trad in and of themselves

NEW CADENCE WEAPON. Produced by Grimes. I'm actually kinda eh about the track. Good rapping from Rollie and nice beat, but "I wish it was 1988" tracks aren't really my thing. Although this feels simultaneously retro and very modern. You wouldn't hear rapping like this in 88 outside of the God himself.

Yeah, listening to it more, I can't stand for much of this track lyrically, but it sounds good.

lmao @ fruity swag pioneers

'haiti slang' is so gucci..don't get the hate

been listening to 'nigganati' a bit.p goony and mostly quite boring. 'cops on the block' is the obvious highlight.

not really feeling 'astronaut status' which i'm sad about. really want future to push himself in a more pop direction.

struggling with 'trap back' a bit too but 'walking lick' is fucking CLASSIC

art dealin' thru the west coast (tpp), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:19 (fourteen years ago)

I think Astronaut Status is great. What do you think it is about it that you're not feeling? (The Q also applies to Trap Back.)

i'm not interested in any of this stuff \(o_O)/

besides Tree. I fuck with Tree.

it certainly says more about me than it does prodigy that i'm most excited about french montana being on like 1/4 of the tracks

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 07:15 (fourteen years ago)

Anyone heard the Juvenile tape? Was pretty excited cos I loved 'Power' from the end of last year, but back to back tracks with large chunks of Fugees 'Ready Or Not', Anita Baker 'Sweet Love' and Berlin 'Take My Breath Away' chased me screaming from my computer tbh

I kind of dig the new Cadence Weapon track but I really just wish there was something a bit more like Afterparty Babies which was a great album.

Or some of the grimier stuff off of Breaking Kayfabe

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

trap back is pretty great imo, mike will is incredible, he manages to use the trap sound template, add subtle details & make it his own sound.

Well, who knows if this is a one-off track with Grimes production or a hint of what's to come on his next (forthcoming?) album (or even an actual track from it?). I don't mind him going in a different direction, I just hate "rap sucks nowadays; let's go back to 1988!" tracks on principle.

Oh, Rollie has great taste in rap music. And usually makes pretty fine rap music himself.

dave coolier (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 23 February 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

i like rollie. never been too into his music personally. but 'oliver square' is kind of fun for being about how tough edmonton is

D-40, Thursday, 23 February 2012 21:54 (fourteen years ago)

dunno rollie from here but he was big in the philaflava game.. nice dude

art dealin' thru the west coast (tpp), Thursday, 23 February 2012 21:57 (fourteen years ago)

I think "Oliver Square" is fairly tongue-in-cheek, considering I'm from Edmonton, as well (although Rollie now resides in Montreal... they all leave, I tell you!).

Yeah, I guess it's weird, but if I were talking about Rev's music (which like, I should at some point because it is fucking glorious stuff, etc. etc.) I wouldn't use his real name - I guess in this case his board name is his music-making name, but I tend to distinguish people from musical persona.

Or like. pre-Heartland, I'm pretty sure that Owen's music was still 'Final Fantasy' for me?
