― dave coolier (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
its supposed to be weird
― D-40, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:15 (fourteen years ago)
"haiti slang" is so dope
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:16 (fourteen years ago)
it's like 08 weezy doing "gossip folks"
eeeeeeeeee i'm a ride it like a kawasaki bike
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:23 (fourteen years ago)
for whatever reason I don't love Ka. I guess its good it just seems sort of emptily theatrical to me or something, like his voice doesnt have convincing gravitas or something idk
― D-40, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:25 (fourteen years ago)
new Tree single

that's cool... dude is a pretty great producer
i assume that's a teaser or something?
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:28 (fourteen years ago)
nah its just a really short song lol
cant wait for this to leak https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vhp3jniE2RA
― D-40, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:29 (fourteen years ago)
more like '10 weezy doing asap rocky
WHERE is "gossip folks" in "haiti slang"? you are all either stoned off your faces or insane or trolling. it's not weird it's TERRIBLE
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:32 (fourteen years ago)
the mixtape only barely improved from there
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:33 (fourteen years ago)
WHERE is "gossip folks" in "haiti slang"?
that it's mostly young thug singing gibberish?
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:34 (fourteen years ago)
not all gibberish is the same
i quite like ka
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)
lol lex wtf does 'doing asap rocky' even mean, here? wtf does he do that sounds or even signifies anything remotely asap rocky-ish
― D-40, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:37 (fourteen years ago)
when i think of "gossip folks" i think of the awesome beat, missy impersonating a screeching car and switching her voice up, and the child dancers in the video, way before anything that is in "haiti slang"
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:37 (fourteen years ago)
he mumbles aimlessly and cannot rap, like asap rocky
yeah i don't get the asap rocky thing at all
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)
oh wow this second ka track is gonna make me BUY the album off itunes - love those creepy chimes, his voice is like a non-southern trae
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)
i'd refine my criticism more but that would mean listening to young thug again
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)
the first comparison pt i thought of w/ haiti slang was gucci's "ima star"
fwiw 'haiti slang' is obviously a curveball on the record & not representative of the sound he usually has
― D-40, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)
the mixtape is really reminiscent of wayne in between carter II and carter III, but if someone actually set out to replicate the innate weirdness of that era instead of just being like "gotta get me that autotune!" which is fair or unfair is part of wayne's legacy
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:41 (fourteen years ago)
i can't even. it's unlistenably bad.
i really loved the killer mike track posted upthread though!
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:42 (fourteen years ago)
id say hes less lyrical than that era of wayne but he does also seem to have PRESENCE which is a promising sign imo
― D-40, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:44 (fourteen years ago)
yeah it's def that era of wayne mixed with non-lyrical fruity swag pioneers
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 20:46 (fourteen years ago)
i love lady leshurr's new mixtape. first collabs with US producers

i like the little i've heard of roc marciano, it doesn't happen my way that often i guess

This is right on.
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:35 (fourteen years ago)
honestly too the track is amazing, a real interesting way to flip a classic NYC production style, it's almost like the producer just started making the first bar of a beat and then decided to leave it, and the minimalism makes it sound so spooky and new even though the actual sample and drums are pretty trad in and of themselves

http://soundcloud.com/cadenceweapon/cadence-weapon-88-prod-grimes
NEW CADENCE WEAPON. Produced by Grimes. I'm actually kinda eh about the track. Good rapping from Rollie and nice beat, but "I wish it was 1988" tracks aren't really my thing. Although this feels simultaneously retro and very modern. You wouldn't hear rapping like this in 88 outside of the God himself.
― "I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:10 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, listening to it more, I can't stand for much of this track lyrically, but it sounds good.
― "I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:17 (fourteen years ago)
lmao @ fruity swag pioneers
'haiti slang' is so gucci..don't get the hate
been listening to 'nigganati' a bit.p goony and mostly quite boring. 'cops on the block' is the obvious highlight.
not really feeling 'astronaut status' which i'm sad about. really want future to push himself in a more pop direction.
struggling with 'trap back' a bit too but 'walking lick' is fucking CLASSIC
― art dealin' thru the west coast (tpp), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:19 (fourteen years ago)
I think Astronaut Status is great. What do you think it is about it that you're not feeling? (The Q also applies to Trap Back.)
― "I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:21 (fourteen years ago)
i'm not interested in any of this stuff \(o_O)/
besides Tree. I fuck with Tree.

― Number None, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:51 (fourteen years ago)
ok i'm listening to "i cam from nothing" and i love this. "haiti slang" wasnt a good introduction imo
― ⚓ (gr8080), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 03:37 (fourteen years ago)
yeah it's def an outlier track, still dope tho IMO

it certainly says more about me than it does prodigy that i'm most excited about french montana being on like 1/4 of the tracks
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 07:15 (fourteen years ago)
Anyone heard the Juvenile tape? Was pretty excited cos I loved 'Power' from the end of last year, but back to back tracks with large chunks of Fugees 'Ready Or Not', Anita Baker 'Sweet Love' and Berlin 'Take My Breath Away' chased me screaming from my computer tbh
― pandemic, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:40 (fourteen years ago)
This Ka album is great. The production is especially gorgeous. Loving "Every..."
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:49 (fourteen years ago)
I kind of dig the new Cadence Weapon track but I really just wish there was something a bit more like Afterparty Babies which was a great album.
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)
Or some of the grimier stuff off of Breaking Kayfabe
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 16:51 (fourteen years ago)
trap back is pretty great imo, mike will is incredible, he manages to use the trap sound template, add subtle details & make it his own sound.
