"stupid hoe" is the one w/ a ton of dislikes

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 13:56 (fourteen years ago)

stupid hoe is cool but it's barely even music really

flopson, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

after all the ballyhoo about BET 'banning' the video, FUSE has been playing it relatively uncensored (song title changed to "Stupid, Stupid" but you can still hear her say 'stupid hoe' in the song, visuals all untouched)

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

i don't remember anything particularly vulgar in that video

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 14:54 (fourteen years ago)

well there was the giant naked animated ass

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 14:54 (fourteen years ago)

oh

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 14:55 (fourteen years ago)

in profile tho

flopson, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

i'm surprised there's no obligation to put an epilepsy warning at the beginning of that video..

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

that actually did happen to Hype Williams's last big video, Kanye's "All of the Lights," so you'd think he learned by now

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

"stupid hoe" is amazing, i am actually baffled that so many people dislike it

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

also wtf does "barely even music" mean

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

yeah "stupid hoe" is amazing

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

there's supposed to be a lot of dr luke on this album, right?

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

also wtf does "barely even music" mean

ahah. maybe it was considered it's only rhythm, not melody/harmony ?
what do I know, I'm not Geir !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

I've already erased "Stupid Hoe" from my iPod :(

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

i like "stupid hoe" but i think it's patently obvious what people would dislike about it

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

especially among fanbases that were won over by "super bass" or "your love"

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

haha no kidding

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

yeah... there's probably going to be this ongoing tension b/w songs like "did it on em" and "roman's revenge" and "stupid hoe" and ones like "your love" and "starships"

i guess she's having her cake and eating it too now, but we'll see

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

and the respective fanbases for those songs

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

"did it on em" was a rap song but it wasn't very over the top goofy/weird, was a huge radio hit

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:33 (fourteen years ago)

anyone know what they're planning on doing w/ that song she did at the grammys

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:35 (fourteen years ago)

adapting it into her feature film debut?

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

i was joking when i said stupid hoe is barely even music, so far i like all nicki minaj output this year a lot. but like it should be obvious to everyone why it was so divisive/negatively received & why starships is going to be big. stupid hoe is a pretty dense concentration of the things people don't like about her with barely anything else to latch onto

i like "stupid hoe" but i think it's patently obvious what people would dislike about it

I heard Starships on the radio today and it was awful. I just gave it another play and was only mildly offended. as a Ke$ha track I'd probably give it a pass. I'll probably grow to love it.

fffv, Thursday, 16 February 2012 03:10 (fourteen years ago)

probably.

fffv, Thursday, 16 February 2012 03:14 (fourteen years ago)

it's kind of funny how "super bass" was like this perfect accidental synthesis of her pop crossover style and the more unique stuff people actually like her for, but instead of learning any lesson at all from its huge success she's right back to alternating between these songs that straddle those two extremes even more awkwardly than before.

I saw the Rapradar blackout section and it made me go yeesh: http://rapradar.com

I hope she sticks it out with this album. I think it can be interesting. I can understand why people are being turned off but at the same time I have a feeling that people just want her to just fill the roles of a Lil Kim or Foxy Brown because that's how she was introduced. I love the way she raps when she just raps but at the same time, what she has been doing lately has been fascinating (even if it fails or not). I don't know. I feel like part of people's complaints is she needs to be put in her place (good ole rap sexism) or why isn't she doing things like she did six years ago (which makes no sense why you would ask anyone that question in life frankly).

But I think what bothers me about this whole Nicki thing is that the unwritten rules/expectations of hip hop for females are just so unrealistic and confining that even if all the songs were good would she receive praise or stil be lambasted because she's not being "hip hop." Even if I don't like the artist I get annoyed when people say "Such and such should stop doing this and adhere to what fans of a genre expects." And I think well who the fuck are you to say what they should and shouldn't do? God forbid this person doesn't fit into your fantasy world of expectations and idol worship.

tl;dr version: I still hope her original vision is intact for this album because even if it is a failure it still can be interesting to see a female rapper go this far image & music wise.

i think starships is definitely still crossover, vocals on the verse esp, maybe less so than super bass but a lot more than turn me on

how about it filling their expectations for making worthwhile hip-hop music instead of turning into Flo Rida

D-40, Thursday, 16 February 2012 06:08 (fourteen years ago)

this is completely inaccurate

Um dude she did her own version of the Lil Kim photo and The Jump Off song. Uh yeah for a second she looked like she was going to fill that role for Young Money.

how about it filling their expectations for making worthwhile hip-hop music instead of turning into Flo Rida

Well she said from the jump off that she wanted to be more than just hip hop so she warned her fans. Also, Stupid Hoe and Roman in Moscow and that other song on the grammys dont' sound like any Flo Rida song I've ever heard of.

Plus, what is worthwhile hip hop music lately? Because to me that phrase has lost its meaning to me.

i hate all of your opinions and think you are 100% wrong about them

D-40, Thursday, 16 February 2012 06:30 (fourteen years ago)

Ok so?

Tired of these edcuated basic bitches. (lilsoulbrother), Thursday, 16 February 2012 06:32 (fourteen years ago)

nicki posing like a lil kim poster & covering the jump off does not = her entire output is basically lil kim pt. 2

she broke out w/ mizay ent., working w/ gucci circa 09 before she was known as a part of young money & this was when her best stuff was dropping

her warning us that she wants to be "more" than hip-hop doesn't mean that fans cant be disappointed by that choice! the flo rida comparison was obv about the new song

and read the regional thug thread if you want to know about worthwhile hip hop because there is tons of it

D-40, Thursday, 16 February 2012 06:47 (fourteen years ago)

i still like 'massive attack' more than 'super bass' by quite a wide margin.

pandemic, Thursday, 16 February 2012 06:54 (fourteen years ago)

jesus talk about overreacting.

Tired of these edcuated basic bitches. (lilsoulbrother), Thursday, 16 February 2012 06:54 (fourteen years ago)

i guess on the one hand it's easy to understand why she's doing what she's doing... her fanbase has grown and it's not like she's been ostracized from the hip-hop world or something. i guess everyone would like a new "super bass" seing as that's the song that really blasted her into superstardom, but if she's having her cake and eating it too there's no real reason for her to change what she's doing

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 February 2012 07:09 (fourteen years ago)

but the music is largely complete shit, yes

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 February 2012 07:09 (fourteen years ago)

should i start the WE ARE THE 1% tumblr for gays, women and non-whites that don't fuck with nicki's katy perry songs

illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 16 February 2012 07:16 (fourteen years ago)

it's getting hilarious how deej keeps saying "mizay" in reverent hushed tones

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Friday, 17 February 2012 13:44 (fourteen years ago)

I have no problem conceptually with Nicki Minaj doing a Katy Perry pastiche; I have a problem with the actual pastiche sounding like dogshit.

(thinks and smiles) (DJP), Friday, 17 February 2012 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

^^ this, although more broadly i do have a problem with Nicki singing because she sounds awful

CANDY aka JUNK (some dude), Friday, 17 February 2012 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

eh, she usually sounds okay if the guide vocal isn't loud enough to clash with her live vocals; she's never off enough to be entirely out of key, unlike say Rihanna (who apparently can only sing "We Found Love" in key live)
