titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Monday, 6 November 2006 15:34 (nineteen years ago)

amen fandango, but then there's nothing to spoil with Zane's music.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Monday, 6 November 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

you can always buy the CD! ;)

new new wave of new wave new rave (fandango), Monday, 6 November 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

I hate her voice. I have a friend who says she's his dream woman. I don't see it. Bit too enthusiastic for me, and I dislike the breezeblock because it's usually pretty boring peppered with some decent tracks.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Monday, 6 November 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

no one's told me what the ska-ish stuff on that mix is yet. I like it a lot.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Monday, 6 November 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

there's a tracklist on the site (albeit one full of 'untitled's)

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Monday, 6 November 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

72:40 is midnight request line, but not the usual mix. this would put it in the middle of the hatcha segment:

...
Skream - 'Request Line' Remix (white)
Benga - The Blues (Benga Beats)
Benga - Zombie Jig (Benga Beats)
Skream - Dutch Flowerz (Tempa)
Digital Mystikz - 'Ancient Memories' Skream remix (DMZ)
...

The Blues and Zombie Jig is on this (samples here too)
http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=BENGABEATS1

Dutch Flowerz is on the skream lp and a single.

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Monday, 6 November 2006 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

I got that Tectonic Plates 2CD set in the mail the other day. It's not bad, but it's not exactly world-alteringly brilliant either.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Monday, 6 November 2006 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

so, do people dance to dubstep? how does one dance to dubstep? i was listening to some skull disco stuff in the car today and picturing people doing the dances from the "beat it" video, like slow-motion knife-fighting and moonwalking on rollerskates. is this right? or is it just music to go out to a club and smoke pot to and drink beer in the corner of the room?

HUNTA-V (vahid), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:35 (nineteen years ago)

One skanks.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

what, like at a mighty mighty bosstones show?

HUNTA-V (vahid), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:41 (nineteen years ago)

:'(

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:42 (nineteen years ago)

or do you mean to erratically bend at one knee and dip the same shoulder, straighten up, repeat w/ the other side, and pretend you're dancing?

HUNTA-V (vahid), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:49 (nineteen years ago)

From a rather humorous thread on the dubstep forum entitled "What do you look like pissed and skanking?" It was quite blatantly this dude's excuse to post a picture of the girl on the right.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:49 (nineteen years ago)

xpost. Basically, aye. It's quite good for the wallflowers though, because rather than just stand still they can just shuffle a bit. No need to actually get the hips working.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:50 (nineteen years ago)

what happened to that poor girl's face?

HUNTA-V (vahid), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:52 (nineteen years ago)

what, like at a mighty mighty bosstones show?
-- HUNTA-V (vfoz...), November 10th, 2006

if it was screwed & chopped.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:52 (nineteen years ago)

my friends and i invented a rad dance which we called "the crippled egyptian". it was like a slowed-down version of walking the egyptian, with a lot of bobbing. actually, david byrne does the crippled egyptian toward the end of "once in a lifetime". we did it to make fun of the dancing at dancehall clubs but i bet it would go over great at a dubstep show.

HUNTA-V (vahid), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:55 (nineteen years ago)

dammit now i have to rip my bosstones album into audacity just to fuck with it. THANKS A LOT HUNTA-V

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:56 (nineteen years ago)

xpost. If I won't spill my pint of guiness while I do it I might give it a bash.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:58 (nineteen years ago)

btw that dubsta mix upthread is awesome! much more fun than just listening to shackleton tracks.

HUNTA-V (vahid), Friday, 10 November 2006 07:32 (nineteen years ago)

sorry, that is Matt DC in that picture, isn't it?

wogan lenin (dog latin), Friday, 10 November 2006 10:25 (nineteen years ago)

No. Unless he's from Newcastle now.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 10 November 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

it looks geet like'im man!

wogan lenin (dog latin), Friday, 10 November 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

so, is this skull disco mix by dubsta considered half-step? or is there another name for it? it's very danceable, in it's own way, much moreso than the "dubstep allstars" comps i've heard (#s 1,2,3).

HUNTA-V (vahid), Friday, 10 November 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

I am really really loving this Ammunition and Blackdown Present The Roots of Dubstep comp.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 10 November 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

so, is this skull disco mix by dubsta considered half-step?

I always think of halfstep as the half-time stuff with one snare per bar like Loefah's "Root" or whatever as opposed to anti-war dub or something. I think it's just some slap dash term.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 10 November 2006 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

Really like that tectonic plates 2CD. Bahl Fwd and the Loefah remix of Punisher are especially sick.

I'm giving that and the Digital Mystikz Cay's Crays remix a lot of play at the moment. When I'm not listening to the Katamari Damacy soundtrack.

Dan Barramouss (jimnaseum), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
Anyone liking the Bass Clef album.

Its not all dubstep, some IDMish beat fuckery here and there.

Some really solid mournful tunes though.

Josiah Schirmacher (Harry Knuckles), Saturday, 6 January 2007 08:41 (nineteen years ago)

Or the last couple Juju releases?

Liking Youthman Dub and Tribute especially.

Is good, yah?

Josiah Schirmacher (Harry Knuckles), Saturday, 6 January 2007 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

Well I guess if anyone is curious what my real name is now they know.

Harry Knuckles (Harry Knuckles), Saturday, 6 January 2007 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

Any thoughts on the Skream LP? I've gotten hooked on "Midnight Request Line" and the one with the flute sample ("Rutten" I think)...

Telephonething (Telephonething), Saturday, 6 January 2007 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

From much much further upthread:

Burial on the Breezeblock

In session, Cinematic sounds from Burial a rising producer within the dubstep scene. Burial is a 26 year old from South London. This music is so far out, cool, fresh, haunting, eerie, atmospheric - INNOVATIVE and demands a listen.

Good Warlock of the West (Bimble...), Saturday, 6 January 2007 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

Check out 0800 if you like Midnight Request Line, its on Skreamizm 2 I think.

Harry Knuckles (Harry Knuckles), Saturday, 6 January 2007 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
Jess's Roots of Dubstep review is excellent and thoroughly OTM.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

"I want this marriage consummated ASAP."

me too.

natedey (ndeyoung), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

i still think that skip-y, click-y perlong-style percussion + dub bass + heavily overdone echo and reverb + diva/ragga samples would basically be the greatest music in the history of mankind.

acid waffle house (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

which would make it grown up uk garage, i guess. but still.

acid waffle house (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I was about to say isn't that basically Burial.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

i would prefer it without the slurry of "atmosphere." (though i like the burial album a lot.) plus he doesn't really have much bass does he? and while, yeah, his grooves are a lot more intricate than most dubstep i've heard lately, they're not even as intricate as old school garage let alone something like pantytec.

acid waffle house (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

It's hard to tell how much bass there is because I am usually listening to mp3s heh.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

Was Skream "less celebrated" than Boxcutter on your side of the water then? I'm slightly surprised by that

Hell Hath No Furry (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

But I take your point. I mean the dream is clearly the Perlon axis becoming more jungle-ized, not so much DMZ adding twiddly skips or whatever (FTR: I quite like DMZ trudging thudstep, but I think there only needs to be one ya know.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

"Was Skream "less celebrated" than Boxcutter on your side of the water then? I'm slightly surprised by that."

I'll bet you neither record sold a thousand copies here in the states.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

yeah but i think the boxcutter album was probably marketed better, which is all i really meant. (planet mu and all.)

acid waffle house (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

If you mean if you mean critical reaction, then the answer is no: way way more Skream pieces (or dubstep pieces which mention Skream) than anything on Boxcutter.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I am sure there are more review copies of Boxcutter floating around heh.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

let's face it: no matter who it is, this genre gets about 1/1000th of the attention even something like klaxons will over here, which is a lot of webzine love and maybe a page, page and a half in spin.
