Cash Out is a good rapper name. Cool track.

why aren't more rappers uploading their mixtapes to spotify?
― art dealin' thru the west coast (tpp), Thursday, 9 February 2012 14:04 (fourteen years ago)
because you can already stream them for free on a hundred other sites? also it probably takes a similar amount of paperwork to putting them on iTunes, which they also don't do? also if you look at the most played lists on Spotify rap doesn't seem very popular among its users?
― Alshipleyan Goalpostmover (some dude), Thursday, 9 February 2012 14:06 (fourteen years ago)
ok but people actually pay for records on itunes and they would get paid for streams on spotify? do any rappers actually make money directly from sticking a tape on datpiff/equivs? or is it just hope for a knock-on effect with touring and so on?
― a hoy hoy, Thursday, 9 February 2012 14:14 (fourteen years ago)
i get why they wouldn't upload to itunes cos c'mon no-one is gonna pay to download a tape they can get for free. but if, in my case, i already paid for spotify premium or whatever, i'm looking to give these guys money for playing the tracks that they give away for free. is the paperwork really that bad / are there really no rap fans on spotify? there's a lot of good rap on there! so much bay area stuff
― art dealin' thru the west coast (tpp), Thursday, 9 February 2012 14:17 (fourteen years ago)
i agree that it would be great if mixtapes were on spotify and maybe that'll happen at some point -- at the very least, yeah, they'd probably make a direct profit from it that they don't get from datpiff or whatever. but it also seems kind of obvious why nobody has really bothered with it -- although when you search for rappers on Spotify you DO tend to turn up a few mixtapes in addition to the official albums, but they're usually random compilation tapes, not the big tape with DJ Drama or whoever that they just dropped.

because you can already stream them for free on a hundred other sites? also it probably takes a similar amount of paperwork to putting them on iTunes, which they also don't do? also if you look at the most played lists on Spotify rap doesn't seem very popular among its users?
because it's not available in many countries?
― rusty_allen, Thursday, 9 February 2012 14:57 (fourteen years ago)
why would that matter?
― Alshipleyan Goalpostmover (some dude), Thursday, 9 February 2012 15:06 (fourteen years ago)
I thought mix tapes aren't supposed to pull any income? Specifically those with uncleared samples or beats that weren't paid for.
― dr dre throwing dubstep balloons (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 9 February 2012 15:58 (fourteen years ago)
ok but a bunch now work w/ 100% og material, or maybe krit could release a tape w/ 15 songs on it instead of 20 etc.
― a hoy hoy, Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:01 (fourteen years ago)
Right, no reason those shouldn't be up.
― dr dre throwing dubstep balloons (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)
drake, fabolous, etc. have re-released retail EP versions of mixtapes with just the original songs, but again that's only when radio hits and major labels are involved. i think the industry is going to have cycle through a couple more years of post-compact disc growing pains before we get anything like what y'all are asking for.
― Alshipleyan Goalpostmover (some dude), Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:25 (fourteen years ago)
it does seem like hiphop is a couple years ahead of other genres tho. organising a datpiff&co type situation where at least hiphop fans knows where to get their music and have an organised web presence is still something most other genres still need to do. how that turns into $$$ still needs to be figured out obv.
― a hoy hoy, Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:35 (fourteen years ago)
Dont artists make almost nothing with spotify? I've seen spotify promote at like pitchfork fest but not rap shows too
― D-40, Thursday, 9 February 2012 17:57 (fourteen years ago)
'nothing' compared to SALES, but 'something' compared to datpiff/livemixtapes (i.e. actual nothing)
― Alshipleyan Goalpostmover (some dude), Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:11 (fourteen years ago)

― J0rdan S., Thursday, 9 February 2012 18:14 (fourteen years ago)

― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 9 February 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)
imo its def not better than setbacks & loses some of the immediacy
― D-40, Thursday, 9 February 2012 20:53 (fourteen years ago)
both are good tho. 'hands on the wheel' probably my least favorite track for real
Yeah, i'm not sure it's better than Setbacks. "Blessed" is just fucking amazing though and it's all in his delivery. Like he's not doing anything incredibly complex lyrically but the way he tears into the lines where the beat come in is beautiful. Kendrick comes of as bit too cerebral in comparison.
