The reviewer in The Guardian was raving over Django Django and gave it *****.

new Caveman album on fat possum is not special or unique in any way yet i'm really really enjoying it
― all apart and no pull (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 02:14 (fourteen years ago)
sometimes standard dreamyish indie can be just the ticket
― all apart and no pull (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 02:15 (fourteen years ago)
I'm underwhelmed by the Liechtenstein album. They don't make knock you over the head music but the first album had a bit of an edge that's missing this time around.
not enough reverb this time i reckon
― all apart and no pull (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 02:47 (fourteen years ago)
I found nothing at all interesting on that Django Django record.
― I Fucked Up (jer.fairall), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 03:48 (fourteen years ago)
Veronica Falls are gonna be in DC Wednesday night. Can't decide whether I like their retro UK postpunk sound or not.
― curmudgeon, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 15:46 (fourteen years ago)
I really enjoyed it albeit in a sub XTC manner. There are some fantastic songs on there.
― Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 16:45 (fourteen years ago)
I was briefly obsessed with Django Django's "Love's Dart" / "Storm" 7" but so far the album seems pleasant but not too exciting. All the tracks have sounded good popping up on random play, though.
― Schleimpilz im Labyrinth (a passing spacecadet), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 20:59 (fourteen years ago)
The two Liechtenstein tracks on the split tape with Twinkle Twinkles are great, would've boosted the album a little.
Seeing Still Corners and My Sad Captains on Friday, two bands I've not seen for at least 3 years maybe, but really enjoyed last time out. Am intrigued to see how they've grown. Only heard the odd Still Corners thing despite them getting tangiably more of a big deal recently.
― Cragenham Craig (Craigo Boingo), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:16 (fourteen years ago)
the latest MSC album is not bad, i've been enjoying listening to it a lot but nothing really sticks quite like their first album, which is a shame
still corners seem more overrated every time i hear them
― meat o.d. (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 22:06 (fourteen years ago)
nothing really sticks quite like their first album, which is a shame
getting this a bit with the 2nd standard fare album too, though that is growing on me quite fast
― meat o.d. (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 22:07 (fourteen years ago)
Django Django seemed pretty Beta Band-esque to me, but not really in a way that felt like it was filling a gap in my life that's been empty since 2004 or whenever.
Feel like what I've read about Standard Fare is something I'd like, but have not heard them yet. Is early Delgados anywhere near what they sound like? I could do with some of that.
― Les Tressle (useless chamber), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:10 (fourteen years ago)
i guess they're a little early delgados-ish?
― meat o.d. (electricsound), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:12 (fourteen years ago)
if you're new to them i'd direct you to the debut album first
How well known are they now? I don't really keep up with the indie press so it's difficult for me to gauge how much attention they're getting.
― Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:16 (fourteen years ago)
they're not as big as allo darlin'
― meat o.d. (electricsound), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:19 (fourteen years ago)
Hm, the first video I found on Youtube (Fifteen (15)) sounded like how I think the Long Blondes sounded, maybe it's just a similar lyrical sentiment or something. Norman Records' review of the 2nd SF album almost had me throwing money at it but I was distracted by something else. I could probably grow to like it, I guess.
There's an indie press? SF seem like a band I could've seen maybe 20million times at various nights put on by friends of friends in the past couple of years but often I can't be bothered showing up. I don't know if there's an actual POPBAH-next level to step up to anymore, but the fact that I'm actively checking them out suggests they might be getting there.
― Les Tressle (useless chamber), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:20 (fourteen years ago)
Allo' Darlin' I guess would be getting onto the Camera Obscura tpe of net level?
― Les Tressle (useless chamber), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:21 (fourteen years ago)
jeez the one post I put that doesn't get a ton of xpost warnings is the one full of typos.
well if you use last.fm as a guide - and i often do - they've got a long way to go
― meat o.d. (electricsound), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:23 (fourteen years ago)
I've known the singer for years. It's still a little bit strange for me to see people talking about them on ILM. Their reviews have tended to be positive, as far as i can tell, but i've never been sure how much attention they're picking up in the wider world.
― Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 00:30 (fourteen years ago)
some nice things out on hozac today. bare mutants 45 sounds like crystal stilts. the radar eyes LP is v nice too
― meat o.d. (electricsound), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 01:24 (fourteen years ago)
camera obscura were the new belle and sebastian for a bit, allo darlin' seem more the new heavenly. they've supplanted a dormant pipas as the great white hope. i rather like them but i don't see them signing with 4ad until the 4th album. i think their new one is out soon right? i agree with jim on still corners, it is exceedingly pretty but insubstantial. they might be better with a singer instead of a coo'er.
― keythhtyek, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 04:31 (fourteen years ago)
i think their new one is out soon right?
next month i think
― hilare appendage (electricsound), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 04:34 (fourteen years ago)
listening to the single 'capricornia', her personality moved back in the mix, maybe this will be more of a band record? has a bit of the lucksmiths nostalgic geography thing going while sounding more 80s jangly than they have before. sadly they are not playing near here on their US tour.
― keythhtyek, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 05:05 (fourteen years ago)
Might pick up Cloud Nothing's at lunchtime.
― Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 07:56 (fourteen years ago)
Cloud Nothing's what?

I'll be curious to hear what you think of that Cloud Nothings Sick, I'm head over heels for it myself.

Ooh, on Carpark and P-Fork likes 'em.

Sounds like they rawk
― curmudgeon, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)
Which is good
Veronica Falls are more twee than I said above, but not annoyingly so.
― curmudgeon, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)
Wasted Days off the new Cloud Nothings is The Shit. Another fine Albini sound-engineering jobby.
― Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Wednesday, 8 February 2012 20:41 (fourteen years ago)
I quite like that Allo Darlin' track, was a little different than expected.
The new Standard Fare album took a while but proved itself a grower. First three tracks awesome from the go though. They are so great live.
― Cragenham Craig (Craigo Boingo), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 22:51 (fourteen years ago)
Although it is difficult to stop oneself from substituting 'Danzig' for 'Dancing'.

Quite liking this new Wedding Present track. More than the "You Jane" single anyway.

"Steve Albini played Scrabble on Facebook almost the entire time [we were recording]. I don't even know if he remembers what our album sounds like."

^going to check out Standard Fare's album based on above.
Been listening to Chairlift's newest a ton the past two weeks. Not every song is a keeper, but more than half are fantastic.
― musicfanatic, Sunday, 12 February 2012 23:41 (fourteen years ago)
is there a rolling goth thread? the new Soap & Skin mini-lp is excellent. she's still so young. which are the other great austrians in pop/indie music? apart from Falco of course.
― keythhtyek, Monday, 13 February 2012 00:33 (fourteen years ago)
there is this thread but no 2012 equiv yet
Rolling 2011 Goth / Post-Goth / Darkwave / Dark Neopostpunk / Deathrock etc. etc. Thread!
