xxp: Mara Carlyle
She was Plaid's vocal muse, much as Allison Goldfrapp was Orbital's. I love the EP where she covers Hey by the Pixies and 1 Thing by Amerie, simultaneously. The album is unavailable in the States, but findable. I didn't care for it because it leaned pretty far in well-tracked singer-songwriter with guitar territory. Goldfrapp's post 90's work, for all its ups and downs, at least offers novelty with every release.

BEG TO DIFFER

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:13 (twelve years ago) link

the whole sock accusation thing is absurd fucking retarded absurd

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

Also I was listening to the Ayshay music loud in the afternoon and my neighbor gave me the weirdest look when I bumped into her in the elevator. She must have thought I was into black magic and shit.

Had you started acting in super-gay-crazy bitch-made devil-racist beast-mode or accidentally painted an upside-down 7 on the wall with a cross before erasing it? I know my neighbour thinks I'm into black magic when I do all sorts of mystical negro type shit. Or play Electric Wizard really loud.

Conan The Asshander (Doran), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:19 (twelve years ago) link

Great thread by the way but was ultimately disappointed by the lack of Mexicans in really long winkle pickers.

(And people who think Destroyer is rock music need to crack open some Buds and crank up Cold Chisel.)

Conan The Asshander (Doran), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:21 (twelve years ago) link

Ha ha I love destroyer now even more, what a ridic reaction to a poll

dave coolier (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:33 (twelve years ago) link

contenderizer , I know there's posters on this board who love Kiss.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:33 (twelve years ago) link

M@tt the reaction to the results is all the more funnier when johnny fever said in outloud that the poll rollout thread went well with not much bullshit(that was after the lex's drunken rant which was still less than everyone expected). Then 2 days later shit hits the fan.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:36 (twelve years ago) link

it was almost as bad as the alltime metal poll

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Saturday, 4 February 2012 20:38 (twelve years ago) link

what a sham.

David Dees Weekly Top 40 (crüt), Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:05 (twelve years ago) link

my analysis of the top 2 boils down to

british artist thinks long & hard about war, makes great album
canadian artist eats sandwich, makes greater album

flopson, Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:08 (twelve years ago) link

kmt the only thing more disgustingly savage than liking destroyer is actively preferring destroyer to pj harvey

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:14 (twelve years ago) link

actually not sure which one i actually prefer tbh, peej is a lot more astounding but destroyer goes down more easily

flopson, Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:16 (twelve years ago) link

i think there's only one song on LES that's really tough to listen to ("england") - in the PJH discography it's probably one of the easiest listens (easiest ≠ simple, obv). it's probably the only PJH album i'd even consider playing near my parents.

"certain posters" itt thread causing me to regret voting for PJH, tho i do sincerely love both her and LES

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Saturday, 4 February 2012 21:34 (twelve years ago) link

Destroyer was way better than the PJ Harvey and all of this is making me want to retroactively submit my lurkerballot

1) The Weeknd - 80 pts
2) Destroyer - 60 pts
3) Frank Ocean - 100 pts
4) All Other Inauthentic RnB - 200 pts
5) Drake rapping on top of Panda Bear tracks - 69 pts

Call All Destroyer: Ah, you're obviously not familiar with one of ILX's finest moments.

I believe the sentiment around these parts is - never forget.

Just realized Apocalypse didn't make the list. It isnt my fave Bill Callahan/Smog album but it seemed to get more critical attention than his last few so kinda surprised it didn't turn up.

I just hope it won't lead to a massive influx of what.cd users, because srsly, 90% of the people on there are complete tools. They will demand a FLAC version of ILX.
