tbh i would be quite happy if the video just consisted of the bit where she's dressed in black in front of the bonfire for the entire length of the track. she is stunning.

whereas I was hoping for a continuous shot of her chilling on the side of the car while it's up on two wheels
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Friday, 3 February 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)
that was p cool tbf

lol and the screenshot for the vid is DJP's fav bit!
― pandemic, Friday, 3 February 2012 18:45 (fourteen years ago)
The video is great. Wonder why noone thought of making a music video of people doing the two wheel stunt before.
It reminds me of Beyonce's 'run the world' but this one is actually fun to watch and it probably was 1/20 of the production costs of Beyonce.
― Moka, Friday, 3 February 2012 18:48 (fourteen years ago)
genuinely surprised people love it. it looks like an advert to me
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Friday, 3 February 2012 18:49 (fourteen years ago)
Adverts can be fun to watch.
― Moka, Friday, 3 February 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)
Also crosspost from the Madonna thread. MIA as a cheerleader... her contribution is pretty much null but she looks great.

is this a joke
― max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 3 February 2012 18:53 (fourteen years ago)
hey, that's kind of fun. silly, but fun. chorus reminds me strongly of the dandy warhols' "bohemian like you", but that's okay, i love that song.
― adolf jingle balls (contenderizer), Friday, 3 February 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)
(speaking of the madonna song/vid)
ugh this is embarassing. would have preferred ZZ Top cover.

(wrong thread)
― adolf jingle balls (contenderizer), Friday, 3 February 2012 18:55 (fourteen years ago)
anyway, the bad girls video is fantastic. <3 the song, too.

Why would it be... it's visually impressive. When you talk about the video you say oh yeah it's the one that does the two wheel thing. And you get great stills like the frozen frame in the video.
― Moka, Friday, 3 February 2012 19:00 (fourteen years ago)
I'm positive I've seen that stunt in other hip hop videos is all
― max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

Love the video because it's a continuation of what she does best (besides music). Trolling. It's 2 Fast 2 Furious: Orientalism Edition but after the panning MAYA got, consensus was 'quit with the politics and noise and just make more global pop hitz.' Et voila.
I dunno. I remain convinced that she knows what she's doing and laughing her ass off the whole time.
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:20 (fourteen years ago)
she prob does, but the music can still be terrible
― J0rdan S., Friday, 3 February 2012 19:21 (fourteen years ago)
Arab Spring for Top Shop is hilarious tho.
I mean. Oil barrels! Women driving! Hijabs! Bling! Swag!
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:22 (fourteen years ago)
For sure. I was just talking about the video. The song isn't bad. Don't know if I love it or not. I was hoping for something a bit less rote/well-trod, especially after stuff like Space and Tell Me Why and Born Free and Teqkilla but it might grow on me.
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:24 (fourteen years ago)
after the panning MAYA got,
is that the general consensus? I kinda love the album myself
― max buzzword (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:24 (fourteen years ago)
Ditto. I was disappointed on first listen, but it quickly grew on me. And the VickiLeekcx mixtape was even better.
― Let A Man Come In And Do The Cop Porn (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:26 (fourteen years ago)
MAYA was pretty much stomped on by most critics, yeah
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:27 (fourteen years ago)
me too! MAYA's far and away my favorite MIA album. except for piracy funds terrorism, but maybe that doesn't count.
^ this. love the shit out of that video, way more than the song itself, which is good but kind of a retrenchment. she is trolling HARD tho.
― adolf jingle balls (contenderizer), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:28 (fourteen years ago)
I love MAYA, but it mostly got panned by critics in the bigger venues - newspapers, bigger music sites, etc. etc.
That + truffle fries, etc.
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:41 (fourteen years ago)
Honestly, I wish Bad Girls was a little bit more in the direction that MAYA and the rest of Vicki Leekx were going. The song feels a little safe by comparison.
It's the video that makes it knowing for me, and more than a rote KALA retread.
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:42 (fourteen years ago)
if she was gonna retread kala couldn't she at least have retrod "hussel" or "bamboo banga" rather than the dodgy timbaland track
(i don't hate the song but it's not exactly demanding to be heard again)
(god "hussel" is her peak 4 real though)
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:46 (fourteen years ago)
now that I will OTM without reservation
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:46 (fourteen years ago)
Hussel is fucking astounding. Up there with Amazon and 10 Dollar.
Actually, that entre run of KALA's first five tracks is pretty much perfect.
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 3 February 2012 19:48 (fourteen years ago)
honestly I can (and usually do) skip "Jimmy" without reservation or regret
"$20" and "XR2" later on totally make up for it and more, though
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Friday, 3 February 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)
"world town" is the best track on KALA imo
― DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Friday, 3 February 2012 20:19 (fourteen years ago)
well, there is one track towards the end that's pretty good. forget what it's called though.
― adolf jingle balls (contenderizer), Friday, 3 February 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)
she looks amazingly gorge for 37 don't she?
― piscesx, Friday, 3 February 2012 20:34 (fourteen years ago)
She's 37 for real? Yeah, she does.
At any rate, I unsurprisingly love this.
― lag∞n affiliated (The Reverend), Friday, 3 February 2012 23:15 (fourteen years ago)
the video is so great. the whole thing has an amazing swagger and style !the song itself was good and still is but I find the extra part doesn't bring much to was was already there and by the end it gets a bit boring.still, this could and should be a huge hit !
― AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 01:11 (fourteen years ago)
to what was
I will be amazed if this is a hit
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Saturday, 4 February 2012 02:18 (fourteen years ago)
well, my "pop instinct" (whatever that means !) hasn't been that excited by a song (thanks to its video) for a long time and from the first reactions on youtube, FB, etc, there might be a big buzz starting... we'll see !
― AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 10:11 (fourteen years ago)
The video's gorgeous ("2 Fast 2 Furious: Orientalism Edition" is exactly what i like from her) but the song's so dull and repetitious. I'm not disappointed by it bcz by now my expectations are pretty low but it's not exactly exciting, is it.
― marcus junius ubiquitus (c sharp major), Saturday, 4 February 2012 12:28 (fourteen years ago)
I just watched the new madonna MIA/NM video on youtube and it has about 3 million hits since Feb 2 and bad girls has around 1 million since the same day : so MIA has 1/3 of the success of a new madonna's single, not too bad !
― AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 14:52 (fourteen years ago)
if only either of them were worth getting excited over
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:00 (fourteen years ago)
no way will it be a hit. i like it though.
hard for me to separate out my 'objective' feelings about the video with my feelings that MIA is a total babe
― max, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:05 (fourteen years ago)
well, I haven't cared for madonna for a long time and this track won't change that (MIA is not doing anything special in it and Minaj is cool). but the bad girls package is great ! although this version doesn't add much to the mixtape one, at least it's properly released. It would have been a shame to let that track without giving it a chance as a single.
― AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:09 (fourteen years ago)
no way will it be a hit.
there should be a "I love bets" !
― AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:10 (fourteen years ago)
i was talking about the MIA track fwiw but i dont think either one will be a hit
― max, Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:12 (fourteen years ago)
arguing over whether a new pop song will be "a hit" is the most boring boring thing to do or see, leave that to fora like popjustice
they may well both be hits but even if that's the case they will still both be mediocre songs
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Saturday, 4 February 2012 15:16 (fourteen years ago)
