This Destroyer album... it sounds like someone doing a pastiche of OMD or Electronic or something, which is exactly what it is. ILM, seriously I thought we were over this kind of thing. Must've been the US vote on this one, I'm assuming?

not impressed with this Destroyer so far. It's a bit tasteful and polite. Nothing to hate about it but its hardly genius like grady thinks.

It was Kieran Hebden, Steve Reid & Mats Gustafsson - Live at the South Bank and I think a lot more people would like it if they had heard it, esp considering what actually placed. OH WELL.

I like Bejar's voice for the same reason I like Bowie's or Morrissey's.

it was released in 2011 and a lot of people listened to it in 2011 and enjoyed it in 2011. that's pretty relevant imo

destroyer was my #1 as well. Took me a while to get into it, but it is an album worth investing some time in.

also I love his voice and lyrics, on this and on previous albums.

4 tracks in and every song on this Kaputt album sounds the same - same tempo, same droney faux-English voice... Thought the Gayngs album from last year did a much better take on this kind of thing.

If it's any consolation, IIRC I was one of these votes and Soul Punk was my #1 in the desperate hope it would sneak into the list. Glad my votes for Tropical 2/Uncle Acid counted, at least.

maybe listen to 'bay of pigs' first.. i feel like it's a mission statement for the album more or less

I never vote in these cuz my tastes tend to be outlandish, so it's weird that #1 and #2 are albums I actually think were two of the best of the year

I despise Florence for making that racist video and am not planning to ever buy another one of her releases, but I really, genuinely loved Ceremonials and I feel like Florence baggage gets in the way of people engaging with that album.
