ILM's Top 77 ALBUMS of 2011

Has anything ever received 12 first place votes in one of these polls?

For all my handwringing on the tracks thread about being out of step with ILM, I believe this is the first time my #1 album was also ILM's #1.

i have and like some new pornographers records but i really have zero idea what destroyer sounds like or if i should bother

Eleanoora Rosenholm was on my ballot, thanks solely to hearing her several times in outloud. Wish she would've cracked the top 77, but oh wells.

I like the 1st couple of New Pornographers albums but have no idea what Destroyer sounds like either

It's smooth 80s pastiche, basically the polar opposite of everything New Pr0ns stands for. xps

This is the equivalent of the FA cup with lots of exciting, quirky results and then fucking Man U win it to sour it all.

I think the new pornographers are pretty lame but the destroyer album is super amazing

Never heard a note of Destroyer in my life, so can't comment on their win (but trust the opinions of the naysayers in general).

For all that, the countdown was p. exciting, esp. the 30-11 stretch.

Anyone surprised by this result probably hasn't read the Kaputt thread in which numerous posters refer to the album as their favorite of the year.

Gobsmacked that King Creosote didn't even place.

I think the new pornographers are pretty lame but the destroyer album is super amazing

The only New Pornographers songs I really like are the Bejar ones ("Jackie Dressed in Cobras," "Myriad Harbour," etc.)

yeah I didn't read the Destroyer thread, mostly because I assumed that a band called Destroyer was some black metal band I didn't care about

If I had to pick one Destroyer album (at gunpoint), it would be this one. If I had to pick one album from 2011, this wouldn't even cross my mind.

That said, I wouldn't leave a party that had it on in the background.

I bet King Creosote is number 78 just to spite me.

While I really don't think Destroyer is album of the year material, I'm glad it finished ahead of that spotty as hell PJ Harvey album. I still don't understand how people can consider that such a masterpiece. Its about half a great album, while the other half is meh to terrible.
