Yessir for DJ Quik. Tremendous album.
Ghetto Rendezvous the ice coldest track of the year, genuinely shocking to mehttp://youtu.be/aqlLDyA28yU
― pandemic, Thursday, 2 February 2012 19:53 (fourteen years ago)
I didn't vote Quik, but it didn't need my help after all. YAY!
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 February 2012 19:53 (fourteen years ago)
"ghetto rendezvous" is for real the coldest rap track in recent memory
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 2 February 2012 19:53 (fourteen years ago)
hopefully quik keeps putting out an album a year
metal vinyl just goes nuts on ebay sometimes.

not just metal.

yeah, but often metal. i've occasionally sold stuff on e-bay, and bidders do seem to lose their shit over "collectible" metal. plus the doods that buy it (and they're always doods) are often crazy obsessive and super-informed about billion weird little details, like comic book collectors.

Oh good!
― Sounds Of The Baskervilles (dog latin), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)
Ha, apparently I'd never seen the cover of that GGD album before. Voted for it though!
― I chipped a tooth on the buttbone (askance johnson), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:02 (fourteen years ago)
29 votes. We're in consensus territory!
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:02 (fourteen years ago)
Top 5 =
PJHKaty BDestroyerBeyonceand...?
I'm blanking on the fifth.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:02 (fourteen years ago)
Way to go Uncle Acid voters! Absolutely stunned to see that in the top ten!
― Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:02 (fourteen years ago)
uncle acid sounds really good!
― skip, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:04 (fourteen years ago)
Kate Bush still to come.
― Phibes Kartel (NickB), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:04 (fourteen years ago)
I'm losing my confidence in that.
― _Rudipherous_, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:04 (fourteen years ago)
Right, Kate Bush!
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:05 (fourteen years ago)
But then, how could she not have made the list at all? I guess you are right.
― _Rudipherous_, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:05 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, I think it's too high a placing, but I'm sure she'll make it.

I've been under the assumption those four would top 5 this whole poll but been unable to come up with the fifth. I was hoping it would be DJ Quik.
xp Oh yeah, Kate Bush.
― lag∞n affiliated (The Reverend), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:05 (fourteen years ago)
Kind of surprised at lack of Wild Beasts though.
― Phibes Kartel (NickB), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:06 (fourteen years ago)
I found Eye Contact to be a considerable step down from St. Dymphna, but there are still a couple of undeniable jams on it.
― jaymc, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:06 (fourteen years ago)
don't count out slick pulla
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:06 (fourteen years ago)
Between Beyonce and PJ for #1? Not that I'd have predicted any of this so far so I wouldn't put money even on that.
― Suede - the fabric, not the band (DL), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:06 (fourteen years ago)
King Creosote and Jon Hopkins
― Sounds Of The Baskervilles (dog latin), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:07 (fourteen years ago)
Beyonce ftw
― Phibes Kartel (NickB), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:07 (fourteen years ago)
i said at the very beginning it was beyonce , pj harvey and katy b for the top 3 and im staying with it.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:07 (fourteen years ago)
It's far from being the best Kate Bush album but I reckon a lot of people would have put it somewhere a bit outside their top ten. Wouldn't be surprised if it got more actual votes than most of the others, even if they weren't very high.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)
The only thing that surprises me about that potential top 5 is Katy B -- did not realize she was so popular. I should probably listen to the album -- I really like "Katy on a Mission," and the tracks that showed up on the tracks poll were pretty good, too.
― jaymc, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)
would love it if the King Creosote and Jon Hopkins album made it, but I doubt it. So beautiful and moving.
― I chipped a tooth on the buttbone (askance johnson), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)
I got the Hatchback album and it is really gorgeous. I would have absolutely voted for that.

They've sadly missed out with all 3 of their albums on these lists.
Really think it's going to be PJ Harvey at number 1 with Beyonce close behind.
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
I'm gonna hazard that Katy could win
― Sounds Of The Baskervilles (dog latin), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
xp re hatchbackyeah, I need to find the right time to listen to that^. whoever said it wasn't good bored at yr computer music was right
― rob, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
GGD album is solid - not top 10 for me, but I did vote for it.
― two lights crew (seandalai), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
Again, I like the Kate Bush album well enough (voted for "Wild Man" in tracks) but it didn't make my ballot.
― two lights crew (seandalai), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:14 (fourteen years ago)
i could see any of beyonce,pj and katy b winning.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:14 (fourteen years ago)
This is a pleasantly esoteric top ten so far.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:15 (fourteen years ago)
Eleanoora Rosenholm will be #1, obviously. Come on guys, where have you been this year?
― emil.y, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:15 (fourteen years ago)
I'm digging this Colin Stetson album quite a lot you guys. Looking forward to discovering the lower echelons of the poll once this is over.
― Sounds Of The Baskervilles (dog latin), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:15 (fourteen years ago)
i think even more than metal vinyl is bands like tool, pearl jam, mars volta...that shit goes haywire.
― omar little, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:16 (fourteen years ago)
kate bush, awesome.
Katy B has the pop and dance factors nailed, plus she's got underground/indie cred - could be aligning factors
― Sounds Of The Baskervilles (dog latin), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:16 (fourteen years ago)
I'm really happy about Gang Gang Dance and DJ Quik both hitting the top ten, and the Pistol Annies is pretty good too. No idea there was such a following for the latter here, although I never read the rolling country thread.
Still prefer Crazy Ex-Girlfriend for Miranda action though.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:17 (fourteen years ago)
xp to omar there's gotta be a subset of 30-ish guys who have a little money and think it's so rad to have that stuff on vinyl
