Uncle Acid had better place if King Creosote isn't
― Sounds Of The Baskervilles (dog latin), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:06 (fourteen years ago)
Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - a really impressive rock album released in mysterious circumstances, has garnered a pretty big following in a fairly short amount of time.
― Sounds Of The Baskervilles (dog latin), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:07 (fourteen years ago)
psychedelic rock . think john lennon hears 13th floor elevators and black sabbath and decides he's gonna have a bit of that. Hard to imagine it being top 20 though.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:10 (fourteen years ago)
I see. Nicolas Jaar will be in there somewhere anyway. Everyone hated James Blake in the end right?
― Number None, Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:11 (fourteen years ago)
there will NEVER be any rap poll w/ even half of the turnout of the metal polls though
― lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Wednesday, February 1, 2012 3:03 PM (17 seconds ago)
lol not if you keep it invite-only there wont
― ⚓ (gr8080), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:11 (fourteen years ago)
don't say "you" to me like i approved of that dumb idea! but seriously the ALL TIME hip hop poll got literally less than half the ballots of the 2011 metal poll.
― lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:15 (fourteen years ago)
the all time hip hop poll was just too much for me tbrr
― the parable is the parable of the (Lamp), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:16 (fourteen years ago)
yeah i know that's not a totally fair comparison because some people get intimidated by that kind of thing, but i'm just saying. goons don't vote like metalheads.
― lana del rey: everythang's workin' (some dude), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:17 (fourteen years ago)
too busy fighting the power iirc
― #YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:19 (fourteen years ago)
well there also just arent that many ppl who regularly contribute to rolling rap are there? other than deej most of the rap thread regs voted in the traxx poll at least but my impression is that its a more... exclusionary culture than rolling metal
― the parable is the parable of the (Lamp), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:20 (fourteen years ago)
anyway im glad you all agreed w/ my point that last years rolling rap all-stars best of twenty-ten list helped goonify the big ilm eoy list
― the parable is the parable of the (Lamp), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:22 (fourteen years ago)
On the other hand most of metal crüe don't seem to vote in the ILM poll - if they did they would basically dominate the whole thing.
― two lights crew (seandalai), Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:26 (fourteen years ago)
there was a secret goon poll, results were published secretely & deej wasn't invited--sorry y'all
― flopson, Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:51 (fourteen years ago)
shhhhhhh

so its yall's fault that clams casino and araabmuzik instrumental albums beat 99% of hip hop on this year's ilx list
― #YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:14 (fourteen years ago)
ok i can get on board with this Uncle Acid album
― Number None, Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:36 (fourteen years ago)
i personally felt it was a weak year for rap full lengths and sort of an awkward transitional year for rap music in general. while 2010 saw a lot of big debuts & breakouts (waka, lil b, odd fut), most of 2011 felt like a slog as those artists released a high rate of output with little or none of it at the level of quality of their breakout material. tragically, my favourite new rap artist of 2010 (nht boyz) barely released anything all year. many new artists within the more traditional goon aesthetic were met with a mixed reaction (trouble/alley boy, brick squad monopoly, future), while the most unifying new artists (kendrick lamar and schoolboy q) are coming from the opposite aesthetic
― flopson, Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:59 (fourteen years ago)
You R&B and Hip Hop "heads" should check out that album by "The Weekend", which takes both genres to dazzling new heights!

next time i have to defend not giving a shit about kendrick lamar i will just cite flopson's "opposite of goon aesthetic" description

i agree that 2011 was largely a rebuilding year for solid goon raps. i found plenty of great full-lengths but found the overall narrative lacking,
with the exception of maybach music, which converted me by bringing back that 'actual rap' to the rap charts again
― #YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:25 (fourteen years ago)
am i crazy to still be holding out hope for covert coup? love the shit out of that shit.
― his hands are a dirty fountain through which lives spurt (contenderizer), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:25 (fourteen years ago)
rich forever is already better than any of the maybach 2011 output tho xp
― flopson, Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:26 (fourteen years ago)
i agree that covert coup was a very good record considering curren$y's slide into same-iness it still stood apart xp

agreed but have any singles from that charted yet? I meant more in terms of loving 'tupacs back' 'ima boss' 'aston martin music' (carryover from the prev year but nonetheless) 'that way' & other big singles
except for lotus flower bomb. that sucked
― #YOLO #NAMASTE (D-40), Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:27 (fourteen years ago)
I will be v surprised a & disappointed if Uncle Acid doesn't show; I remember predicting to Kerr that it would make top 10 but I'm scaling that back. I'm not ready to call it a day yet though, esp since so many voters have represented...
― Drugs A. Money, Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:42 (fourteen years ago)
also: I totally need to check out that Schoolboy Q album. any relevant discussion on ILM?
― Drugs A. Money, Thursday, 2 February 2012 03:46 (fourteen years ago)
Both the Schoolboy Q albums are v. good.

so i have a pattern going, i went 0/17 first day, 2/20 second day and 4/20 third day. so i should still have eight more that show up
― Bee OK, Thursday, 2 February 2012 05:08 (fourteen years ago)
i'm moving over the next few days so i probably won't know the Top 20 until sometime next week
:-(

If Tropical 2 cracks top 20 I will be ridiculously pleased and smug.
I've got your back on this one. I'm sure this is going to make it.

Was hoping that Future Islands would feature somewhere as it was my #2, but no way will it make top 20.
― fun loving and xtremely tolrant (Billy Dods), Thursday, 2 February 2012 08:35 (fourteen years ago)
i voted future islands

Just chiming in on Colin Stetson. I never enjoy music if it's simply presented to me like a sport, i.e. technical skill over music and feel. But this is some evocative stuff and fairly accessible. I even like the spoken word stuff.
― Sounds Of The Baskervilles (dog latin), Thursday, 2 February 2012 10:55 (fourteen years ago)
I'd have liked to have seen Bangs & Works 2 place, but it won't happen.
