Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - a really impressive rock album released in mysterious circumstances, has garnered a pretty big following in a fairly short amount of time.

psychedelic rock . think john lennon hears 13th floor elevators and black sabbath and decides he's gonna have a bit of that. Hard to imagine it being top 20 though.

don't say "you" to me like i approved of that dumb idea! but seriously the ALL TIME hip hop poll got literally less than half the ballots of the 2011 metal poll.

the all time hip hop poll was just too much for me tbrr

yeah i know that's not a totally fair comparison because some people get intimidated by that kind of thing, but i'm just saying. goons don't vote like metalheads.

well there also just arent that many ppl who regularly contribute to rolling rap are there? other than deej most of the rap thread regs voted in the traxx poll at least but my impression is that its a more... exclusionary culture than rolling metal

anyway im glad you all agreed w/ my point that last years rolling rap all-stars best of twenty-ten list helped goonify the big ilm eoy list

so its yall's fault that clams casino and araabmuzik instrumental albums beat 99% of hip hop on this year's ilx list

ok i can get on board with this Uncle Acid album

i personally felt it was a weak year for rap full lengths and sort of an awkward transitional year for rap music in general. while 2010 saw a lot of big debuts & breakouts (waka, lil b, odd fut), most of 2011 felt like a slog as those artists released a high rate of output with little or none of it at the level of quality of their breakout material. tragically, my favourite new rap artist of 2010 (nht boyz) barely released anything all year. many new artists within the more traditional goon aesthetic were met with a mixed reaction (trouble/alley boy, brick squad monopoly, future), while the most unifying new artists (kendrick lamar and schoolboy q) are coming from the opposite aesthetic

You R&B and Hip Hop "heads" should check out that album by "The Weekend", which takes both genres to dazzling new heights!

still hoping this will show. did my part. but nah, long shot at best.

i agree that 2011 was largely a rebuilding year for solid goon raps. i found plenty of great full-lengths but found the overall narrative lacking,

with the exception of maybach music, which converted me by bringing back that 'actual rap' to the rap charts again

am i crazy to still be holding out hope for covert coup? love the shit out of that shit.

rich forever is already better than any of the maybach 2011 output tho xp

agreed but have any singles from that charted yet? I meant more in terms of loving 'tupacs back' 'ima boss' 'aston martin music' (carryover from the prev year but nonetheless) 'that way' & other big singles

except for lotus flower bomb. that sucked

I will be v surprised a & disappointed if Uncle Acid doesn't show; I remember predicting to Kerr that it would make top 10 but I'm scaling that back. I'm not ready to call it a day yet though, esp since so many voters have represented...

also: I totally need to check out that Schoolboy Q album. any relevant discussion on ILM?

yeah, the stuff he put out on gravity wave this year is uniformly great

so i have a pattern going, i went 0/17 first day, 2/20 second day and 4/20 third day. so i should still have eight more that show up

Just chiming in on Colin Stetson. I never enjoy music if it's simply presented to me like a sport, i.e. technical skill over music and feel. But this is some evocative stuff and fairly accessible. I even like the spoken word stuff.

I'd have liked to have seen Bangs & Works 2 place, but it won't happen.
