idk i got addicted to that araabmuzik album as walking to work music, the sugaryness of it was like eating a couple of pop tarts for breakfast. weird, since i think it's meant to be night music

rob, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:32 (fourteen years ago)

Was wondering if people were aware that the Nguzunguzu was nominated. Yep, technically it shouldn't be eligible but i played it more than anything else last year so i put it at number one

Number None, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:34 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, i didn't know that else i'd have voted it for sure

i did vote 'electronic dream' - kind of a gimmick maybe but it was a gimmick i liked a whole lot

Love everything about this album, even though I think Actor might be slightly better.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

very cold album, which is probably the point. I voted for it.

skip, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:47 (fourteen years ago)

The album/mood tracks are better than on Actor, but Strange Mercy could use a bit of "Actor out of Work" or "Marrow" energy to liven up the proceedings.

Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

It's good, but it's no Returnal

good songwriter
cool guitar sounds
deadpan singing
she is awesome

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

Replica isn't as good, in my opinion.

emil.y, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

good songwriter

deadpan singing
video games

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

Didn't take to 'Replica'. Favourite Lopatin related thing this yr was the collab thing with Borden, Ferraro, Godin, Halo.

Yeah Yeah Bohney (Craigo Boingo), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

I liked Returnal more but now I can't remember what Replica sounds like.

_Rudipherous_, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

Nowhere near as good as Returnal, I missed both the screaming noise and the strange ballardy balladry.

Phibes Kartel (NickB), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

OPN consensus, it seems!

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:57 (fourteen years ago)

I listened to this in a laundromat once and thought it was p good at the time.

original bgm, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:57 (fourteen years ago)

intrigued by the borden/ferraro/godin/halo collabo record. what's this one like? a pleasant, new age-y wash of sound?

original bgm, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:58 (fourteen years ago)

ez snappin
played-out joke
video gamezzzz

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:59 (fourteen years ago)

Replica might not be as good as Returnal but it still was very good and worthy in its own right.

Frank Ocean got more concentrated listening over 3 months than any other record I listened to this year. Don't go back to it much now but loved it hard.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

this is actually the liberating part of my whole music collection dying - so many of these albums were in my itunes, and i kept them for..."work purposes" maybe? just in case? and now i realise they need never be in there again

Backtracking a bit, I really liked the Araabmuzik album, especially the cheesiest bits. Not sure it's a musical direction that I'd be waiting to see develop all that much, but it was good fun as trashy genre hijacking.

Phibes Kartel (NickB), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 21:09 (fourteen years ago)

lol omar

Frank Ocean album is p great apart from that Hotel California bullshit

if by "p great" you mean "staggeringly brilliant", then yes. and that hotel california bullshit really is. bullshit i mean. i mean it's bullshit. anyway, great album, in my top 5, way too low here.

i know there is no chance and i am not even a huge fan of the record but i can not tell you how much i would enjoy the corrupted album dropping in here like a mean drunk at a wedding reception
