xp to Lex yeah I'd rather musicians spout off theoretical justification for their half-baked ideas than having... nothing.

― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 19:58 (fourteen years ago)
not a hater in general, love john maus, just do not care for we must become.... nothing on it appeals to me half as much as "rights for gays", "the silent chorus", "my whole world's coming apart", etc.

― rob, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, fantastic mix obv
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)
if i'd thought it was eligible i'd have voted for it top 5.
it's a mix by an LA duo, asma and daniel, that weaves r&b vocals through a bunch of awesome beats from zouk to house - very tactile and emotional, the beats and the vocals really respond to each other. you can get it here http://dismagazine.com/disco/mixes/14817/nguzunguzu-the-perfect-lullaby/
nguzunguzu were also responsible for my favourite club moment of 2011 - they played night slugs and it was a night of THE BEST VIBES EVER. nicki minaj on top of wiley's "ice rink", their own remix of ciara's "deuces", diddy dirty money's "sade" segued into a bounce remix of sade's "cherish the day"

that moment when "wave ya hands" comes in was maybe my favorite "moment" in any piece of music i heard this year
― Prince Rebus (donna rouge), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)
^^^

― prolego, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:03 (fourteen years ago)
YES YES YES.
Voted for this but forgot it might be coming up. After a relatively good but not exciting run, this is getting me pumped.

thought it was obvious that this would place. this being ILX and all. expected it to place higher, tbf. didn't vote for it, but like it a lot (probably should have, in retrospect).

I keep seeing the name Nguzunguzu on ILM but have neglected to check it out. This looks interesting at least.
― John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:06 (fourteen years ago)
The Games thing was so much more enduring than 'Channel Pressure'. Enjoyed the instrumental version more than the vocal one.
― Yeah Yeah Bohney (Craigo Boingo), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:07 (fourteen years ago)
oh awesome, Channel Pressure was in my top 5. wasn't sure if ilx was on it this hard
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:07 (fourteen years ago)
completely
'channel pressure' is ok but there were so many other, better records that did the same thing out this year
this is a v zeitgeist-y list so far today tho p cool

I made it about 4 minutes into Nguzunguzu before throwing in the towel. Not my thing at all.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)
i checked channel pressure out last year but it didn't quite click w/me. fucking hard drive crash i keep going back into my itunes where they all used to be to relisten and there is nothing left ;_; ;_;

agree with Craigo. maybe the EP format just suited this kind of stuff better for me?
― rob, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:09 (fourteen years ago)
I keep seeing the name Nguzunguzu on ILMMaybe you were confusing with Fügügüffü ?
― La Lechera, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:10 (fourteen years ago)
Was that one of those nordic folk metal things? I meant to go back and look at them on the metal list.
― John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:11 (fourteen years ago)
Brilliant production on the Ford & Lopatin. Shame about the songs.
― Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:11 (fourteen years ago)
Fügügüffü will storm the album charts next year, I'm sure.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:11 (fourteen years ago)
wow it's moving so fast now!
Channel Pressure really hit me. There are some catchy as fuck songs there and the production is very "now". Who knows what it will sound like in a couple years though.
The Panda Bear record is atrocious.
― skip, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
the real loveliness of the Nguzunguzu didn't really hit me until after several listens. would put it high on my list now
― Dan S, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
really wasnt into the ford and lopatin or games ep :(
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

― omar little, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:17 (fourteen years ago)
not particularly good, but should not be charting lower than gaga
― uberweiss, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:20 (fourteen years ago)
heh
when this came out i wasn't high on it at all - it sounded great but i thought the songs weren't there. towards the end of the year though i found i was still listening to it a ton, especially on tube journeys (the production was loud enough to overpower the noise of the tube basically), and finding it very fun and memorable. so i think i tossed it near the bottom of my ballot. standouts: "i wanna go", "gasoline", "criminal", "seal it with a kiss", "(drop dead) beautiful", "inside out".
at no point does britney sound like a sentient human being - like even less than usual she's just been turned into a sex-and-partying automaton. this, it turns out, is fairly awesome to listen to. at one point on "drop dead) beautiful" you're kind of shocked out of the mood by a voice that sounds alive and human - what has happened to britney, you think! how has she malfunctioned?! it turns out it's the guest rapper (sabi from the bangz who is pretty awesome in and of herself)
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:20 (fourteen years ago)
i don't think gaga is going to place at all tbh, none of her tracks did
has this been used as a mixtape drop?
― tumblring dice (crüt), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

I kept confusing it with one of those shangaan electro fellows
― Phibes Kartel (NickB), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:21 (fourteen years ago)
Back to Nguzunguzu - that 50 second clip from Ciara's Flaws & All into I Run It is just <3
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)
I didn't vote for it but there are enough ppl on ILM who love that Gaga album that it'll place I think

she will

I don't usually vote for mixes and don't really approve of free web mixes being included but that Nguzunguzu mix is FUCKING AMAZING and one of the best things I heard over the first half of last year. Such a fantastic summer mix.
The idea of Cut Copy beating Holy Ghost is just really weird, I wasn't aware anyone even liked Zonoscope that much, especially compared to the last one.
Intrigued by the Julia Holter, I've never even heard of that one.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 20:24 (fourteen years ago)
Okay, I like "Till The World Ends," it's a great single. But I gotta say, WTF. I heard 526 albums last year better than that.
