― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 19:48 (twelve years ago) link
the first weeknd album is still pretty cool imo, i think it was at the very bottom of my ballot
everything after that has been totally unneccesary tho
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 31 January 2012 19:48 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, 45 is way below basically like any other list that has rated this
BOOM!

ilx is like the one place i'm confident will have some non-superstar r&b actually above the weeknd and frank ocean

azari and iii sounding pretty good. can't get a handle on hatchback, but maybe i need to save it for a more contemplative moment. liked the weeknd album, but not enough to vote for it.

OTM. Very much regretting not voting for Hatchback now...
― two lights crew (seandalai), Tuesday, 31 January 2012 19:52 (twelve years ago) link
i kinda like that weeknd album. what's there to hate? i like gifts. especially if they contain music worth to listen to.
― alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 19:52 (twelve years ago) link
I would add Lil B's "What You Doin" to the Clams list
― Number None, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 19:53 (twelve years ago) link
Everyone on ILM seemed to love the Hatchback record; I thought it was a bit nothingy, and nowhere near as good as his previous one, Colors of the Sun. I should give it another go.

they should package this hatchback album with a bottle of campari

I'm not even sure the metal poll winner will place now.

gave it a ton of points, but yeah, sadface. think i may have wasted my #1 vote too (a "metal" album that did ok in 2010), but at least it was sincere [/linus]
― his hands are a dirty fountain through which lives spurt (contenderizer), Tuesday, 31 January 2012 19:55 (twelve years ago) link
i love Colors of the Sun, too. you can't really listen to Z&A while sitting at the computer waiting for something to happen imo.

yeah i hoped the album you mention might place too but i dont think so now. Even though it came out in N America in 2011 its still a 2010 album to most people.Pity, I was looking forward to lots of "I didn't know they had an album out this year" "oh its a different band of the same name?"

some really amazing guitars on this one but I can't get over the vocals - which for people who like it are probably the key to the record.

My first place vote, absolutely love this album but I think this was pretty well hashed out in the singles results thread.

was really enthused about this when it dropped, can listen to some tracks in isolation, but that's about it
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:04 (twelve years ago) link
it's a fabulous record, i'd like to see it place higher. concerns about the length and sameiness are well-founded but it just sounds so good i don't really care.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:05 (twelve years ago) link
how can someone listen to a band who gives itself such a moronic name? after i had listened to their album i knew why, apparently the only memorable thing about them is their name.
― alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:06 (twelve years ago) link
Giving this a listen now. I expect to like it unless the vox are as bad as made out. but if its not death metal cookie monster grunting then the vox are prob fine
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:07 (twelve years ago) link
ok nothing wrong whatsoever with these vox
funny thing about that fucked up record is that while i wasn't really feeling it at the time (standard complaints about the vocals) and still can't sit through the whole thing at once, i almost always dig the individual tracks when they come up on shuffle - especially if, as on "queen of hearts", they've got someone else singing for a bit. if i'd done a tracks ballot, that song would have scored high.
― his hands are a dirty fountain through which lives spurt (contenderizer), Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:08 (twelve years ago) link
so many ilxors had never heard hardcore vox before?
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:08 (twelve years ago) link
i like fucked up but the whole thing of people marveling about OMG A SHOUTY HARDCORE BAND GOT A BONER FOR THE SOFT BULLETIN gets a bit much
also no one who listens to black metal gets to complain abt hardcore vox
― the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:09 (twelve years ago) link
As opposed to a great name like tUnE-yArDs or Hatchback? I mean, come on with that argument.

not sure if i voted that 1 in this poll, but it was #1 on my p&j ballot
It's good stuff, just way too long and relentless for me to have ever heard the entire thing in one listening. Queen Of Hearts was one of my favourite tunes of the year, the rest does pretty much the same thing in different ways.
