I find it hard to believe Lana del Rey is at the top spots. I found videogames sort of unremarkable. Would rather listen to her other singles like 'born to die'.

it was really remarkable how organic "super bass"s rise to becoming a huge huge ubiquitous smash hit was, having started life as a bonus track tacked on to the album proper - and how its increasing ubiquity just made me love it more and more

what's great about it: it's HARD AS FUCK and it's also BUBBLEGUM CANDY SWOON and it is all about having a massive crush on an amazing person and how that makes you feel even more of yourself and also totally powerless ALL IN ONE SONG

It is kind of weird and gross that the Year Of The Woman was spearheaded by a bunch of songs about women bending over backwards to change themselves into whatever the guy they were chasing wanted... and Azealia Banks talking about cunts

bonus points: seeing nicki having to pretend that one of the lines isn't "he might sell coke" whenever she performed it in front of kids or mainstream audiences

it's only flaw is its bridge but w/e everything else is so unfuckwithable and the greatest example of public pop in years that I can overlook it.

I love Superbass. It had been a while since a pop song grabbed my attention on first listen. I only overheard it on a bar the first time and found myself with the chorus stuck in my head all night. It's stupidly perfect.

like, say whatever you want about "Rolling In The Deep", but that song is about how he fucked up and how she's not taking him back; compare that to almost every song on Beyonce's album, which is all "if you asked me to, I would tear the skin off my legs and wear it like a coat, whatever you think is sexy"

and it's not even like I think that type of narrative is invalid or anything, but when it's so ridiculously prevalent with very few contrasting viewpoints, it's kind of wearying

When the credits roll on the imaginary film of my 2011 they should be playing Super Bass. So many happy memories of this song.
