xp to DJP --now that I think about it I think the reason I hated "Midnight City" was bcz that opening was used for some Victoria's Secret fashion show commercial that kept on running over and over again on some youtube-mp3 conversion site

ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

As far as M83, I dig "Midnight City" but slightly prefer "New Map."

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah "New Map" is great too

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

If Gonzalez had managed to pare the album down to a single disc, I think it could've been really fantastic.

surprising

DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

considered voting for this...but didn't. Great song though!

CJ Fam Club (seandalai), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

Seriously?

Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

??? Not even heard of this Britney track.

emil.y, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

<3 til the world ends, 1 of the last things cut from my ballot tho

johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

I'm assuming a lot of people voted for the Ke$ha/Minaj remix?

DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

i kept forgetting she even released an album this year

donna rouge, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

Not my favorite track from Femme Fatale, but it's def. one of my favorite radio hits of 2011. And since I knew it had a much better chance of landing on the results than "Trip to Your Heart," I switched my vote.

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

anyway "Gasoline" is my favorite off of that Britney album, but in terms of the singles "I Wanna Go" >>> "'Til The World Ends" imo.

DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

lol waht

future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

Don't think anyone specifically listed the remix version but I'd have to check.

CJ Fam Club (seandalai), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

i keep being surprised that "till the world ends" is a consensus track! is it because of the apocalyptic memento mori qualities being an apposite soundtrack for the entire western world going down the shitter in 2011? i assume everyone voted for the remix with nicki, anyway - didn't care about it til then and then suddenly it was AMAZING http://youtu.be/vAyLPNLxB9U

*sniff* *sniff *criiiiiies*
I DONE SLAYED YOUR WHOLE ENTIRE FUCKING LIIIIFE

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

This is kind of a "moment" song, like ball-dropping-on-new-years or something. It's got a bit of weight to it, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to hear every day.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

i didn't know this was britney!

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

Really? This is like the standard Britney template now!

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

I had the remix on my ballot at some point, but I've cut it. Still, a great tune, even though the vocal hook was a bit hard to accept in the beginning

V79, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

Just sounds enormous. Not 100% sure it's the best song on the album but it's still an absolute rush.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

yeah it makes sense i think whenever i hear one of these songs i assume it's someone new and not britney *again*

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

original version is so limp sounding. remix goes harddddd

ANYWAY BRITNEY
WHY THEY SO JELLY SINCE YOU TEAMED UP WIT ME

uberweiss, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

anyway "Gasoline" is my favorite off of that Britney album, but in terms of the singles "I Wanna Go" >>> "'Til The World Ends" imo.

i agree with this - as great as the remix is it's still got, like, ke$ha on it, ew.

album held up surprisingly well (i dismissed it at first) but i don't think it's a landmark pop album or anything. really astonished that so many people do.

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

production is really great, i'm def not much of a britney guy but this is one of her better songs.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

i assume everyone voted for the remix with nicki, anyway

I don't know that I've ever actually heard the remix. Will listen now.

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think it's a landmark pop album or anything. really astonished that so many people do.

Landmark? No. But it's surprisingly solid.

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

ANYWAY BRITNEY
WHY THEY SO JELLY SINCE YOU TEAMED UP WIT ME

TELL EM THEY MY SON YEAH TELL EM THEY MY PICKNEY

does this make nicki the first to rhyme "britney" and "pickney" since dizzee?

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

There's an urgency about this track that I haven't gleaned from any of her work in eons. Like she actually WANTED to be singing that day.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

"surprisingly solid" is what i think of it, but "surprisingly solid" tends not to be good enough to get an album my vote in anything

"gasoline", "seal it with a kiss" and "i wanna go" are jams though

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that makes a lot of sense imo

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

My fave pop album last year besides Gaga was Jennifer Lopez's Love? which was universally slept on even though it was full of big tunes.

DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

Okay, lol - turns out when I wnt to listen to 'Drums' I ended up clicking on this chill neo-soul track and I was all 'this is amazing!'. Felt pretty deflated once I hear the actual song though.

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

the remix is NOT better. it has fucking ke$ha on it, ewww.

the original gave me so much life in 2011. it's like the ultimate end result of robo-britney. sure it's a template, but it's the perfection of the template. i'd be happy if it was the single to end her career on.

prolego, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

"Drums" doesn't excite me, but it's pleasant.

John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:35 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, listening to the remix, I'm not sure what either Nicki or Ke$ha add. I mean, I'm always happy to hear Nicki, but I don't think it takes the track to a new level or anything.

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

i aired my grievances w/ this track on the sandbox p&j thread, but suffice to say i think this song is pretty damn average even going by dr luke standards, and that no one would give a shit about this song if britney hadn't become a critical golden child circa "toxic"

J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

I thought the production in the Britney song was awesome, but I feel like the main hook is really hamfisted and doesnt go anywhere

this is actually my problem with On the Floor also, except I dont think I liked the production as much

ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

the remix is NOT better. it has fucking ke$ha on it, ewww.

feel like this more or less justifies my hypothesis that if this was a ke$ha song, no one would really care about it

(ilm excluded considering her placements on this list last year)

J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

I think the main hook is the only decent part of the song! It's like the opposite of "I Wanna Go"

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

I still don't like Toxic, but I like dis.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

she's certainly done much better before "toxic" and much better since

uberweiss, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

j-lo's "on the floor" >>>>>> anything britney made last year

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

I don't think Brit did become a critical golden child. Toxic is ace and Blackout as an album is A++ good, but Circus and its attendant singles were mediocre at best. There are a couple of bangers on Femme Fatale singles wise but the album as a whole is ok, but not great.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i disagree

prolego has a certain prescience; this def felt a bit like a late-career top 40 hit from some 70s AOR band

^^^

J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

"golden child" was prob a bit of a heavy term, but i think ppl give deference to britney post-comeback despite her songs not really being all that

J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

(disagreeing w lex & j0rdan btw just in case that wasnt clear)
