OH OH EY-OH

Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:14 (fourteen years ago)

Haha I *knew* this would finish top 10. Brilliant track, although I might be in the minority that prefers Desloc's contribution to Adiah's.

i "prefer" adiah's bits but as the adiah-only version proved, the desloc bits were 100% crucial

I'm with JF re M83 - "Hurry Up..." was such a let-down and I had no interest in returning to it after the first few listens. "Midnight City" seems to be everywhere on TV/radio though.

"Midnight City" seems to be everywhere on TV/radio though.

Really? (I guess I do recall someone mentioning that it was used as bumper music on ESPN or something.)

Song ID'd: Desloc Piccalo ft. Adiah - Drumz

jaymc: I've heard it lots of places in the UK, anyway. Happened to catch some of the BBC New Year's coverage and it was in the background every 5 minutes or so. Also on some ads I think.

CJ Fam Club (seandalai), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

"Midnight City" was used in some commercials and TV shows after its release. The song was featured in a Victoria's Secret commercial.[17] It served as the theme song to Made in Chelsea, something Gonzalez said was "an opportunity for people to hear my music who'd never listen to it otherwise."[5] It was also featured in the final scene and closing credits of the HBO television series How to Make It in America.[19] On December 21, 2011, "Midnight City" was used in the final moments of the second episode of HBO's television series, 24/7 Flyers-Rangers: The Road to the Winter Classic.[20] The BBC used "Midnight City" as the theme music to their trail for the BBC coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The trail was first broadcast just after midnight on the morning of 01 January 2012.[21]

Oh c'mon, that's not true. The thread went on hiatus several times:

1 month passes...
3 weeks pass...
1 month passes...
3 months pass...

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

xp to DJP --now that I think about it I think the reason I hated "Midnight City" was bcz that opening was used for some Victoria's Secret fashion show commercial that kept on running over and over again on some youtube-mp3 conversion site

ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

As far as M83, I dig "Midnight City" but slightly prefer "New Map."

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah "New Map" is great too

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

If Gonzalez had managed to pare the album down to a single disc, I think it could've been really fantastic.

DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

considered voting for this...but didn't. Great song though!

CJ Fam Club (seandalai), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

Seriously?

Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

??? Not even heard of this Britney track.

emil.y, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

<3 til the world ends, 1 of the last things cut from my ballot tho

johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

I'm assuming a lot of people voted for the Ke$ha/Minaj remix?

DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

i kept forgetting she even released an album this year

donna rouge, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

Not my favorite track from Femme Fatale, but it's def. one of my favorite radio hits of 2011. And since I knew it had a much better chance of landing on the results than "Trip to Your Heart," I switched my vote.

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

anyway "Gasoline" is my favorite off of that Britney album, but in terms of the singles "I Wanna Go" >>> "'Til The World Ends" imo.

DO NOT CALL (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

lol waht

future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

Don't think anyone specifically listed the remix version but I'd have to check.

CJ Fam Club (seandalai), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

i keep being surprised that "till the world ends" is a consensus track! is it because of the apocalyptic memento mori qualities being an apposite soundtrack for the entire western world going down the shitter in 2011? i assume everyone voted for the remix with nicki, anyway - didn't care about it til then and then suddenly it was AMAZING http://youtu.be/vAyLPNLxB9U

*sniff* *sniff *criiiiiies*
I DONE SLAYED YOUR WHOLE ENTIRE FUCKING LIIIIFE

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

This is kind of a "moment" song, like ball-dropping-on-new-years or something. It's got a bit of weight to it, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to hear every day.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

i didn't know this was britney!

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

Really? This is like the standard Britney template now!

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

I had the remix on my ballot at some point, but I've cut it. Still, a great tune, even though the vocal hook was a bit hard to accept in the beginning

V79, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

Just sounds enormous. Not 100% sure it's the best song on the album but it's still an absolute rush.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

yeah it makes sense i think whenever i hear one of these songs i assume it's someone new and not britney *again*

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

original version is so limp sounding. remix goes harddddd

ANYWAY BRITNEY
WHY THEY SO JELLY SINCE YOU TEAMED UP WIT ME

uberweiss, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

anyway "Gasoline" is my favorite off of that Britney album, but in terms of the singles "I Wanna Go" >>> "'Til The World Ends" imo.

i agree with this - as great as the remix is it's still got, like, ke$ha on it, ew.

album held up surprisingly well (i dismissed it at first) but i don't think it's a landmark pop album or anything. really astonished that so many people do.

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

production is really great, i'm def not much of a britney guy but this is one of her better songs.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

i assume everyone voted for the remix with nicki, anyway

I don't know that I've ever actually heard the remix. Will listen now.

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think it's a landmark pop album or anything. really astonished that so many people do.

Landmark? No. But it's surprisingly solid.
