xxp lol you actually might like it emil.y; imagine Don Henley's Boys of Summer as an ice cream cone, and then imagine dropping that ice cream cone on the sidewalk and it melting...

I mean granted, there is a disturbing amount of my inner dialogue that mirrors the running through the halls scene in "The Breakfast Club" so stuff like this is going to appeal to me regardless.
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:53 (fourteen years ago)
La Lechera - "wounded birdies in a fug" is a great turn of phrase but I'm not sure whom it references.

Sax solo on Midnight City is what pushes it above being stock M83 for me. Still, didn't like the most recent album enough to vote for it or any tracks from it.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
i was very 'reeaally?' w/ midnight city @ #1 on p4k -- it's fine, i had no idea it was so loved; i voted claudia lewis

― La Lechera, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
Got no problem with M83 but no love for it, either.
Re-listening to the EMA, maybe it's just catching my mood right but I like this, actually. Some clear reference points, I guess, but I'm a fan of poetry over noise, so...
― emil.y, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
my go-to M83 track is probably 'we own the sky', still haven't heard the new one. i should probably rectify that!
― omar little, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
"Graveyard Girl" is good but it isn't even the best song on Saturdays + Youth (which would be "The Skin of Night", with "Kim and Jessie" close behind)
oh yeah "We Own The Sky" is also great! I am so happy I discovered this band, they pander to me so much
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:57 (fourteen years ago)
I can't remember if I voted "OK Pal" as well; that's another great song on the new one
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)
i saw M83 w/the l.a. philharmonic, pretty damn good (mostly seemed to be playing digital shades type stuff iirc?)
― omar little, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)
I don't know what it is about m83 - technically I should quite like it, but he always falls short of pushing my buttons. This is okay I guess, but more deserving of a top 50 placement, not this high.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)
didn't really love m83 until this album, which I think is fantastic. hard to pick an individual track, but for it would probably be Intro
― Dan S, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:59 (fourteen years ago)
I don't hate M83 but their whole sound seems to aim for a grandiosity that the music doesn't quite back up, it all feels nice but empty to me.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:02 (fourteen years ago)
damn, people really like this m83 song huh
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:02 (fourteen years ago)
ok juuuuuuust catching up
not heard "heaven" before but it's lovely
i <3 EMA (voted #3 or 4 on my albums list) but i'd have gone with "grey ship" instead prob
co-sign lex on "m83 is best as raw remix material" sentiment

M83 featuring Trumpy
― rob, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:03 (fourteen years ago)
this M83 track is overrated to hell and back. nice to see Blawan place this high - didn't vote for "Getting Me Down", but still love the track (the can banging sample!) - weird at first, but a colossal grower!
so far I'm really excited with this JoJo song - didn't hear this before but it's sooo brilliant, the detuned pads and all
― V79, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
I think that emptiness is very intentional, or at least it's something I gravitate towards; it's part of the whole self-insertion into the mood process for me, where I'm imagining myself looking longingly into Molly Ringwald's or Ally Sheedy's eyes before that magical moment when we kiss, and then "Midnight City" comes up as we lean back and smile at each other, the frame freezes and the credits start to roll.
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
lol stupid mind faster than fingers
"it's part of the whole self-insertion into the mood process for me, where that space is where I'm etc etc etc"
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:05 (fourteen years ago)
yeah i'm on the M83 bandwagon at least for that one track
― ciderpress, Thursday, 26 January 2012 18:06 (fourteen years ago)
he sounds like zola jesus. in fact, on the first track it sounds initially like his voice, which then seems to morph into hers, and it's hard to tell where exactly

I love how this went from just being a unknown track J0rdan heard on Miami radio to being something so many people went nuts about. So happy it made the top 10.

i only wish we'd launched it TO somewhere, i was actually expecting the world to pick up on it and it...didn't
totally in the lineage of "swing my way", "my boo", "never leave you", "move ya body", "delirious" for me. summer jam as light as a slight slight refreshing breeze. gorgeous
