another near miss on my ballot
― ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:36 (fourteen years ago)
gucci gucci is the only rap song i know all the words to from the last few years and i'm not ashamed
― jabba hands, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:37 (fourteen years ago)
'County Line' was up in my top 5. It's probably my most listened-to track along with 'The Look' by Metronomy. I do think the line 'I can hear the Columbines' is pretty corny though.
i thought he was saying 'combines'? which makes way more sense?― ciderpress, Thursday, January 26, 2012 12:31 PM (5 minutes ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink
it's "i can smell the columbines" btw

Yeah, there's a serious used by date on this track... #famouslastwords

another one of my favourite ilx posts ever:
last week I was stuck on top of a mountain, near the top of a waterfall, in some rickety ass tent and an unexpected snowstorm moved in and I seriously thought I was going to die, because no one else was out there, and Gucci Gucci by Kreayshawn would not stop playing in my head, as I lay in my tent, thinking about how, if I fell asleep, and the snow, or wind, caved the tent in, there would be nowhere to go, and all I would think, over and over, was Gucci Gucci Louis Louis Fendi Fendi Prada

i will also rep for kreayshawn's "rich whores"! FORTY DAYS, 40K, FORTY HOES, FORTY WIVES / FORTY FASHION STUDENTS DESIGNING ALL MY MERCHANDISE
actually my favourite bit in "gucci gucci" might be EDITOR DIRECTOR PLUS I'M MY OWN BOSS. freelancers feel me!

kudos to johnny for finding a still from the "gucci gucci" video that doesn't make kreayshawn look like a dick, too

brainwasher- <3 but thank nguzunguzu! lol. first heard it on this mix of theirs. pretty sure 90% of my listening in 2011 could be traced back to the fade to mind crew/ extended family in one way or another.

I voted for 'Yonkers'. That'll be the last one of mine to place.
Will give the other Destroyer a go, despite being 'blahhh' about the previous one.
WTF at Cass McCombs? I didn't realise he was a thing now...
― emil.y, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:44 (fourteen years ago)
I think I have a soft spot for snotty white female rappers, including both Kreayshawn and Lady Sov. There was an Uffie track from last year that I really liked, too.
― jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:45 (fourteen years ago)
the track doesn't really start for 4 minutes, FYI

I mean granted, there is a disturbing amount of my inner dialogue that mirrors the running through the halls scene in "The Breakfast Club" so stuff like this is going to appeal to me regardless.
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:53 (fourteen years ago)
La Lechera - "wounded birdies in a fug" is a great turn of phrase but I'm not sure whom it references.

Sax solo on Midnight City is what pushes it above being stock M83 for me. Still, didn't like the most recent album enough to vote for it or any tracks from it.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
i was very 'reeaally?' w/ midnight city @ #1 on p4k -- it's fine, i had no idea it was so loved; i voted claudia lewis

^ this
LDR is also a wounded birdie
― La Lechera, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
Got no problem with M83 but no love for it, either.
Re-listening to the EMA, maybe it's just catching my mood right but I like this, actually. Some clear reference points, I guess, but I'm a fan of poetry over noise, so...
― emil.y, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
my go-to M83 track is probably 'we own the sky', still haven't heard the new one. i should probably rectify that!
― omar little, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
"Graveyard Girl" is good but it isn't even the best song on Saturdays + Youth (which would be "The Skin of Night", with "Kim and Jessie" close behind)
oh yeah "We Own The Sky" is also great! I am so happy I discovered this band, they pander to me so much
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:57 (fourteen years ago)
I can't remember if I voted "OK Pal" as well; that's another great song on the new one
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)
i saw M83 w/the l.a. philharmonic, pretty damn good (mostly seemed to be playing digital shades type stuff iirc?)
― omar little, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)
I don't know what it is about m83 - technically I should quite like it, but he always falls short of pushing my buttons. This is okay I guess, but more deserving of a top 50 placement, not this high.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)
didn't really love m83 until this album, which I think is fantastic. hard to pick an individual track, but for it would probably be Intro
― Dan S, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:59 (fourteen years ago)
I don't hate M83 but their whole sound seems to aim for a grandiosity that the music doesn't quite back up, it all feels nice but empty to me.
