zombie movies have a weird immigrant-fear subtext
― ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:20 (fourteen years ago)
Maybe I am quite easily baffled, but this zombie thing has been a big deal for several years now and I don't see what's so fascinating about zombies enough to sustain that kind of fad.― John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:18 (1 minute ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

A fad that's been going on since 1932?

yeah this whole skulls spooky colorful wounded sexy birdie thing is not working for me, but i chalk it up to me being kind of past the expiration date for caring about stuff like that. i like don't give a fuck confidence a lot more as a theme, usually.
― La Lechera, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)
"County Line" reminds me of something I can't put my finger on, but it's not "Wicked Game."
― jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)
"Wichita Lineman"?
― ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)
Generally zombie movies are less about the zombies, and more about (ooh!), the monster in us all.

"County Line" was my #1, which shocked the hell out of me considering I don't like anything else he's done, but it's so assured about its tone and mood. Plus I'm a sucker for songs about places, and this just kept resonating for me throughout the year. xps

Haha WAU at that Blawan track placing so highly.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:23 (fourteen years ago)
Blawan placing high, huh? I'm not entirely sure if I've heard this partic one.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:23 (fourteen years ago)
The world needs more disembodied Jacko house, clearly.
hey i placed another one!
― blurgh (jjjusten), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:23 (fourteen years ago)
Ironic title.
ah here we are
sounds basic when you first here it but it's a massive massive banger, just really intensely physical to dance to. also a great workout track.
i kind of love that brandy samples popped up EVERYWHERE last year. hopefully this means her much-anticipated comeback next year will be as big a fucking deal as it should be
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:23 (fourteen years ago)
There's been a major upsurge in zombie-themed everything over the past ten to fifteen years. To me it's pretty obvious. I don't have any stats to back it up with or anything though. Obviously zombies aren't completely new, and it would be more accurate to talk about it in cyclical terms, I guess.

finally the dreariness comes to an end
― jabba hands, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:24 (fourteen years ago)
this was one of the highest placing dance tracks in eg p&j - that surprised me then so this doesn't now
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

this is cool! who is this guy?

I don't think I heard this one in my information gathering for the poll but I like it so far.
― John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:26 (fourteen years ago)
This is a good track but it doesn't really hit LOVE buttons for me, I don't know why (actually, I think I do know why; I am super super super SUPER burned out on this particular Brandy song and could happily never hear it again in any form, so no matter how stompy the track underneath it I still have this vague sense of being annoyed when listening to this)

I don't think Here's Your Trance Now Dance!!! was nominated?
― Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

seandalai: bullish on zombies.
― John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:27 (fourteen years ago)
like if it used "What About Us?" or "New Moon" I'd be on board with no reservations
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:27 (fourteen years ago)
ha see dan i dont know the brandy track at all so that def helps
― blurgh (jjjusten), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)
'County Line' was up in my top 5. It's probably my most listened-to track along with 'The Look' by Metronomy. I do think the line 'I can hear the Columbines' is pretty corny though.
― Michael B Higgins (Michael B), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)
So what's in the top ten?
Rolling In The Deep212Video GamesCountdownSuper BassSnooze 4 LoveDESLOC & ADIAH
Some other stuff? Could easily be two or three Beyonce tracks in the top 10.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)
lol "new moon"
I lOOOOOOVE that Blawan track, voted for it on my P&J. Another dope Brandy remix from last year:

Pirates are, tbf, kind of shit - but hey, people like fancy dress and movies and things and there are only so many costumes/DVDs in the shop.

Guys, if "Surgeon" placed, does that mean "Cruel" won't place? Now that is baffling.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:31 (fourteen years ago)
this Blawan track is appealingly weird to me
― ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:31 (fourteen years ago)
wait how... oh that's right, different college experiences; "I Wanna Be Down" was so omnipresent in 1994 that if you put 5+ black people in their 20s in close proximity, it would spontaneously start playing
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 17:32 (fourteen years ago)
