yay! two songs I voted for in a row!
― ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:25 (fourteen years ago)
Yup, definite Massive Attack, mid-90s London vibes. Not sure I love this anywhere close to its influences.
― MikoMcha, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:26 (fourteen years ago)
haven't heard this before, its pleasant, doesn't blow me away
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)
Man, I LIKED the Destroyer LP but I'm not sure if any of the songs were top 20 of the year. Hm.

this.
most ppls rxns to his voice itt have been idiotic, and I'm beginning to think that placing "the laziest river" in the top 20 was some conspiracy to make destroyer fans look ridiculous (if you want one awesome extended track from that album what you need is "bay of pigs", which I voted for IN 2009!)
― tebow gotti (k3vin k.), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)
"I wake with good intentions / but the day it always lasts too long" is one of my favorite lyrics in forever.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)
man why did i never hear that what a fantastic track. dramatic in all the right ways.
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)
Like so far:Invisible Conga People, Tuccillo, Locussolos, PJ Harvey.
Worth a second listen:Tune-Yards, Steffi ft Virginia, Gotye ft Kimbra, Joe Goddard ft Valentina

m8 we don't need a conspiracy for this

The gospelized peak of 'Heaven' is one of my favourite moments of last year, the whole record is so obvious in its influences but it makes them sound incredible.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)
I'm on the fence about Bejar, but I know if a personal fave were to place and then get shot down by pop purists because they "can't sing" (or something ridiculous like that), I'd be pretty sad.

Given the events of the past week, watching the video is a surprisingly emotional experience. It seems like the song which London needs and wants at the moment. Twenty years on, sympathy can never be finished.I think this is the song which is going to get played in documentaries twenty years hence when people want to understand what was happening here in 2011. Single of the year.― Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Monday, August 15, 2011 3:54 AM (5 months ago)

kinda think the reactions to bejar's voice are understandable (since i kinda feel the same way regarding earlier destroyer) but tbh that's because i don't think it fit with his other albums but it fit here, for some reason.
― omar little, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:33 (fourteen years ago)
holy ghost! track is good, whole album is kinda spotty from what i hear?
"I Wanted to Tell Her" isn't on the (generally very good) album; it appears to be a one-off.
― jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:33 (fourteen years ago)
She has awesome hair in this video :)
― MikoMcha, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:34 (fourteen years ago)
I feel like I would like "Heaven" more if it used something other than "The Funky Drummer" as its drum track.
― MarkoP, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:34 (fourteen years ago)
i didn't vote for the album 'kaputt' b/c it sort of slipped through the cracks but i voted for 'suicide demo' which i sure hope will show up!!!
― omar little, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:34 (fourteen years ago)
I don't understand the destroyer hate. I can certainly understand some people being indifferent to it, but the strong negative reactions seem excessive.
― silverfish, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:35 (fourteen years ago)
Listening to "The Laziest River" for the first time now, it's actually pretty great. I think I posted yesterday that I really enjoy the vibe of Kaputt but the songs don't really come together for me...TLR seems to ditch the facade of song-writing and just vibes out for 20 minutes.

This is the first time I've watched the video for "Heaven." I still like "Daddy" more, but "Heaven" continues to grow on me and it was high on my ballot.
― John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:36 (fourteen years ago)
V.pleased to see this place - probably my favourite R&B track of the year despite Wayne trying his best to ruin it #cassiefanclub
― etc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:37 (fourteen years ago)
I warmed up to this song so much; at first I was like "this is basically an audio sleeping pill" and actively avoided it, and then it popped up on the radio and I was like "WOOOOOOAH SLO-MO VIBES R GUD"
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:37 (fourteen years ago)
third song I voted for in a row! Wow!
That being said, this is way too low

OTM
― MikoMcha, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:38 (fourteen years ago)
good but not even the best track named 'motivation' last year
― pandemic, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:38 (fourteen years ago)
I didn't notice it until much later, but her face looks really strange in this still. Soz, Kelly. I didn't mean to do you like that.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:38 (fourteen years ago)
anyways: this song was top 5 for me, p much embodies what I ask for from R&B
― ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:39 (fourteen years ago)
"motivation" is so good - so annoyed that they went with kelly's shoddy guettadance for the UK singles and failed to give us this - amazing glacial beat
i tended to listen to the juke remix feat. kid sister - i don't hate wayne on the og but kid sister's a zillion times better ("he on that jackie joyner hundred-metre flo-jo shit - you see the finish line, don't quit") and the way the beat switches up for her verse is a marvel

― johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:40 (fourteen years ago)
Another one I can't identify (NTS: must pay more attention to r'n'b & pop this year, because there are always great things in these lists that completely pass me by).
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:40 (fourteen years ago)
I love the production on this one - at a time when so many producers are trying to fill in every single gap in the sound it's refreshing to hear something with so much space, and it makes the who record sound huge.
Wayne can fuck off though - "she hold me like a conversation" = LAME.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:40 (fourteen years ago)
amazing song. so hottt.
and who would have thought she'd have a bigger hit than beyoncé in 2011!
― prolego, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:40 (fourteen years ago)
but in both og and remix, it's the pause when she sings "i don't wanna feel my...legs" that makes it for me

"motivation" is like a solid 7.5 or 8 of 10 for me... def a reliable radio jam but not something i ever really listened to myself
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)
Hmm...
That Chicago Juke remix is dope.
― MikoMcha, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)
I almost feel like Lil Wayne is doing a public service by doing such a ridiculous self-parody tbh; "rain on my head/call it brainstorming" lol O RLY....
― ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:43 (fourteen years ago)
"Motivation" was a bigger hit on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, but "Best Thing I Never Had" peaked higher on the Hot 100.
― jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:45 (fourteen years ago)
wayne's lyrics are obviously totally inane but he sounds good on it, whic his also a rarity for him
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:45 (fourteen years ago)
what was the other record called "motivation"? mind blank
if you hate wayne that much listen to the kid sis version instead
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:46 (fourteen years ago)
I think they mean the Clams Casino/Lil B track.
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:46 (fourteen years ago)
even tho "best thing i never had" peaked higher on the hot 100, "motivation" was around for way, way longer and in terms of airplay i doubt that there's even a conversation there
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:46 (fourteen years ago)
smh they're wrong
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:47 (fourteen years ago)
The very sound of Wayne's voice is horrible on this, he just sucks all the sexy out of the record.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:48 (fourteen years ago)
"i put her on my plate then do the dishes"
ugh, fuck you!
wayne doesn't quite ruin it for me, though. i def voted for it.
def a reliable radio jam but not something i ever really listened to myself
yep, pretty much. lex- can't believe this wasn't a single in the UK!
― handy ban (lou), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:49 (fourteen years ago)

ha, i think the thing that keeps "motivation" from being a classic is that it's really not all that sexy to begin with
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)
poor drake :(
― pandemic, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)
this is good but I liked Jhene Aiko's better (and wouldve voted for that if I hadn't already had two Jhene tracks in my top 10)
