wow, really didn't expect to see this Benoit & Sergio song. my favorite track of the year. something beautiful about the friction between the wistful/nostalgic lyrics and the joyful anticipation of the music itself

It's amazing considering how established/well-regarded Blue Lines is that "Heaven" is the first track in ages to really nail that vibe.

what i love about "heaven" is that its influences are really obvious ("unfinished sympathy" x "let me be your fantasy" for the post-katy b market) but it transcends them all because damn does emeli sing the HELL out of it

so my takeaway here is that Janelle Monae should have gone breakbeat rather than retro-android soul and there wouldn't have been such a backlash re: theatricality

The gospelized peak of 'Heaven' is one of my favourite moments of last year, the whole record is so obvious in its influences but it makes them sound incredible.

I'm on the fence about Bejar, but I know if a personal fave were to place and then get shot down by pop purists because they "can't sing" (or something ridiculous like that), I'd be pretty sad.

Given the events of the past week, watching the video is a surprisingly emotional experience. It seems like the song which London needs and wants at the moment. Twenty years on, sympathy can never be finished.

I think this is the song which is going to get played in documentaries twenty years hence when people want to understand what was happening here in 2011. Single of the year.

kinda think the reactions to bejar's voice are understandable (since i kinda feel the same way regarding earlier destroyer) but tbh that's because i don't think it fit with his other albums but it fit here, for some reason.

"I Wanted to Tell Her" isn't on the (generally very good) album; it appears to be a one-off.

i didn't vote for the album 'kaputt' b/c it sort of slipped through the cracks but i voted for 'suicide demo' which i sure hope will show up!!!

I don't understand the destroyer hate. I can certainly understand some people being indifferent to it, but the strong negative reactions seem excessive.

Listening to "The Laziest River" for the first time now, it's actually pretty great. I think I posted yesterday that I really enjoy the vibe of Kaputt but the songs don't really come together for me...TLR seems to ditch the facade of song-writing and just vibes out for 20 minutes.

This is the first time I've watched the video for "Heaven." I still like "Daddy" more, but "Heaven" continues to grow on me and it was high on my ballot.

V.pleased to see this place - probably my favourite R&B track of the year despite Wayne trying his best to ruin it #cassiefanclub

anyways: this song was top 5 for me, p much embodies what I ask for from R&B

"motivation" is so good - so annoyed that they went with kelly's shoddy guettadance for the UK singles and failed to give us this - amazing glacial beat

i tended to listen to the juke remix feat. kid sister - i don't hate wayne on the og but kid sister's a zillion times better ("he on that jackie joyner hundred-metre flo-jo shit - you see the finish line, don't quit") and the way the beat switches up for her verse is a marvel

Another one I can't identify (NTS: must pay more attention to r'n'b & pop this year, because there are always great things in these lists that completely pass me by).

I love the production on this one - at a time when so many producers are trying to fill in every single gap in the sound it's refreshing to hear something with so much space, and it makes the who record sound huge.

Wayne can fuck off though - "she hold me like a conversation" = LAME.

"Motivation" was a bigger hit on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, but "Best Thing I Never Had" peaked higher on the Hot 100.

wayne's lyrics are obviously totally inane but he sounds good on it, whic his also a rarity for him

I think they mean the Clams Casino/Lil B track.

even tho "best thing i never had" peaked higher on the hot 100, "motivation" was around for way, way longer and in terms of airplay i doubt that there's even a conversation there
