Also, it reminds me of "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce. It's the recurring keyboard bit in the background.

I only really like Walk & Talk by B&S - the rest is a bit wishy washy, non-descript. Don't mind the one about "do a little cocaine with me" but that's about it. Principles is okay, I guess...

xp sonically yeah (but you're not really going to either for the revolutionary arrangements) but "for my cinderellas" is about a completely difft subject to "unpretty"!

I'm tired of these guys (having tantrums about stuff on this list).
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)
Most of these would be better if they didn't have such terrible vocalists
― Cashmere Combabe, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:09 (fourteen years ago)
more people should do covers from Ministry's With Sympathy era, there are a ton of lost classics there

― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)
This was way up in the top 10 for a long time.

(Secret Garden vs Streets of Philadelphis for those wondering what I'm talking about)
holy ghost! track is good, whole album is kinda spotty from what i hear?
holy other is also good (on a mellower tip) but probably won't show up.
― omar little, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)
Benoit & Sergio are great! Pleased with this, but it's not my favorite.
― MikoMcha, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)
anyone actually going to rep and get excited about What I've Lost?
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:15 (fourteen years ago)
I really like most of the Holy Ghost! album but it definitely picks up the pace in the second half.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:16 (fourteen years ago)

― ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:16 (fourteen years ago)
Ended up not voting for anything off the Holy Ghost! album - I generally like what they do but I haven't really loved anything since "Hold On".
― CJ Fam Club (seandalai), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:17 (fourteen years ago)
this list is intersting and gives me hope after the many boring eoy lists i have seen
― bnw, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:17 (fourteen years ago)
I appear no to be able to separate Holy Ghost and Holy Fuck in my mind - I know I've heard one but not the other.

Glad people like the Holy Ghost! I had no idea until I heard this and tracked down the original that Ministry had an early pop phase; similar reaction to when I first heard "Just Can't Get Enough" after only knowing Violator, heh.
(Holy Ghost's video for 09's "I Will Come Back" recreates New Order's "Confusion" video, too!)
I like the Benoit & Sergio, but they've released three-four tracks I like better this year. There's a few good interviews w/them floating around (one by Matos, I think?) where they talk about drawing inspiration from Danny Tenaglia and early solo Brian Eno.
xpost "HEAVEN", yes!

Best song today.
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:22 (fourteen years ago)
wow, really didn't expect to see this Benoit & Sergio song. my favorite track of the year. something beautiful about the friction between the wistful/nostalgic lyrics and the joyful anticipation of the music itself
― Dan S, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)
It's amazing considering how established/well-regarded Blue Lines is that "Heaven" is the first track in ages to really nail that vibe.
― etc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)
what i love about "heaven" is that its influences are really obvious ("unfinished sympathy" x "let me be your fantasy" for the post-katy b market) but it transcends them all because damn does emeli sing the HELL out of it
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)
so my takeaway here is that Janelle Monae should have gone breakbeat rather than retro-android soul and there wouldn't have been such a backlash re: theatricality
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:24 (fourteen years ago)
Amazing song, that's another of my votes.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:24 (fourteen years ago)
Oh I don't know this... Will listen when I get home.

yay! two songs I voted for in a row!
― ban dejar (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 16:25 (fourteen years ago)
Yup, definite Massive Attack, mid-90s London vibes. Not sure I love this anywhere close to its influences.
