(xp follow on to my previous post) It's completely understandable, too; a lot of people like a lot of critical darlings but think they're somewhat overrated, so they end up floating around the 6-15 spot on about a bazillion ballots, which is going to overwhelm any record that 3-4 people feel really passionate about

This happens every year! I don't see why it continues to be a surprise.

This is true actually, things usually perk up for the top 10 though.

FWIW I have now heard "Countdown" and it's ricockulously brilliant.

More people hear less records than people who hear more records, and the buzziest stuff tends to place higher because of it. I don't have any real problems with any of the tracks that have placed so far today (Yonkers is kinda stained by my own opinion of TTC), but yeah...people (even ilmers) who don't track down music obsessively and just kinda listen to what their friends like or what blogs/sites/magazines are covering tend to be working from a shallow pool when voting comes. (Not a slam, btw...do what you like!)

as is "marilyn monroe" yes!!!! brianna should be getting the traction that az banks is (though i love 212 too)

I actually like "Novocane" better than the last three; I think my moment of overwhelming bitterness was the Destroyer track, my feelings on which are probably very similar to what Lex is feeling now

think i've tried 3 or 4 times with that k.michelle song. not happening.

I don't think there's anything special or distinctive about "For My Cinderellas" at all, aside from coming out 12 years too late?

i just think "for my cinderellas" is fantastic songwriting from a specific wry perspective that you don't hear too much - really good commentary on the ecosystem of relationships - and it's brilliantly performed, you can hear how she's wry and accepting and kinda maybe a bit sad but still good-humoured about the whole situation

What I've Lost is lovely, that was top 10 for me. It's a 70s rock record rather than a dance record to me.

Also, it reminds me of "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce. It's the recurring keyboard bit in the background.

I only really like Walk & Talk by B&S - the rest is a bit wishy washy, non-descript. Don't mind the one about "do a little cocaine with me" but that's about it. Principles is okay, I guess...

xp sonically yeah (but you're not really going to either for the revolutionary arrangements) but "for my cinderellas" is about a completely difft subject to "unpretty"!

I really like most of the Holy Ghost! album but it definitely picks up the pace in the second half.

Ended up not voting for anything off the Holy Ghost! album - I generally like what they do but I haven't really loved anything since "Hold On".
