The Destroyer album would probably have made my top 50 if I'd done one. Don't love it or hate it.

CJ Fam Club (seandalai), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:14 (fourteen years ago)

listen to some proper balearic jams not this feeb

Not sure he (or rather his keyboardist, who composed most of this track) is going for balearic as much as new-age movie soundtrack. Reminds me of, like, Dave Grusin in places.

jaymc, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:15 (fourteen years ago)

(until this poll I assumed it was a crossover doom metal act!)
irl lol!

La Lechera, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:15 (fourteen years ago)

so... I am not OPPOSED to slow builds etc, but why did it take this song 4 minutes to start

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

This guy's going to win the albums poll isn't he?

― fun loving and xtremely tolrant (Billy Dods)

I'd guess PJ Harvey will win that, maybe Beyonce will be ahead too.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

i do think that this song could be a good gateway drug for people who didn't know they wanted to hear 20 min songs...that's something.

La Lechera, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

wiki says this song is supposed to be only 7 mins, not the 20 mins that the Youtube seems to imply

it's...okay-ish?

wouldve been awesome if a Blanck Mass album track placed at #19 instead of this, but yknow, I'm dealing...

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

This is meant as a Side D bliss-out, not a single, and should be listened to knowing that.

Simon H., Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

multixp
Reminds me of this, which is on spotify if you want to compare it.

Okay, this Destroyer thing lasts for 19 minutes and begins with some synth drones (had to get my headphones so I get to listen to this stuff) that sound like early 90s ambient... Is the rest of the song like that too? I didn't know so many ILXors like ambient.

I also listened to "Yonkers", and I just don't get it. Is this kind of teenage angsty stuff + Co Flow style beats some new form of undie rap that I haven't heard of? Basically, I've nothing against juvenile tunes if they're about sex or partying or drugs, stuff adults can relate to too, but this tune isn't like that at all.

Tuomas, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:18 (fourteen years ago)

I mean, I have listened to "Carnage Visors" on repeat multiple times in my life; you could have removed the entire ambient 4 minute prologue and had a much, much better track IMO

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:18 (fourteen years ago)

the "Nagel's Marimba" section is really nice and soothing and "The Laziest River" part is starting out well, too

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't know so many ILXors like ambient.
1) i think some people didn't know that they did before this song came into their lives and/or
2) those of us who do like ambient don't pipe up much because we are quiet fans?

La Lechera, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:22 (fourteen years ago)

kaputt is the only destroyer track i have any use for

kinda like in theory that a few ~20 min & meme songs are placing but i am certainly not going to engage w/ them

Yeah, if there's one Bejar track I'll stan for, it's this one.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:22 (fourteen years ago)

yeah I don't really get what people hate about this dude's voice? there are a bazillion worse instruments out there

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:23 (fourteen years ago)

I am the laziest listener because I jumped around that song looking for a tune and just gave up after 20 seconds of a slowed down version of The Boys Of Summer backing track.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:23 (fourteen years ago)

aww he just started singing

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:23 (fourteen years ago)

but then again, I do understand how Neil Tennant over 90s Tears For Fears could be a hard sell

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:24 (fourteen years ago)

(idk i'm still p meh on this but i'll hush and let you enjoy this)

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:24 (fourteen years ago)

dan i don't hate his voice per se but i do hate his singing a lot of the time--not as much on this but i feel like a lot of the time he kind of sings whatever he feels like w/no regard for the track.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:25 (fourteen years ago)

yonkers rules.

pandemic, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:25 (fourteen years ago)

Man, I LIKED the Destroyer LP but I'm not sure if any of the songs were top 20 of the year. Hm.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:25 (fourteen years ago)

the rap near the end's a bit weird

A popular and annoying fad I've noticed of late.

lol I still have 3 minutes of Destroyer left

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

never really 'got' this one tbh

You've gotta be kidding me

Nah... Most adults still party and have sex at least once in a while, but few are still mad at their mom and girlfriend for "not understanding them", or whatever that tune was about.

Tuomas, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

thought this would be higher
hopefully this bodes for an enjoyably unpredictable top 10

nathey, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:28 (fourteen years ago)

I like this girl's stuff, but I couldn't tell you which track was which off the album. Makes me think of 90s femme-grunge with all the drums removed, which is pretty much what it is I guess.

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:28 (fourteen years ago)

Only available on the vinyl version of Kaputt.

lol

Was wondering why I hadn't noticed a 20 minute track on the album before.

MikoMcha, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:28 (fourteen years ago)

damn Tuomas, you are bringing it hard today

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:28 (fourteen years ago)

think i went for the EMA album rather than this track

pandemic, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:30 (fourteen years ago)

fwiw this Destroyer track, um... destroys the other one on the countdown IMO

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:30 (fourteen years ago)

ema track is hilarious

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:31 (fourteen years ago)

Save us on your birthday, Johnny Fever!

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:31 (fourteen years ago)

i gave the ema album a try and it didn't really click, kept meaning to go back but never did. it's not clicking now either but i've just been for a run and am too full of endorphins for this, i think

also her name just makes me think of the educational maintenance allowance, the cutting of which has been a political hot button issue of late here

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:31 (fourteen years ago)

wow she has done a lot of practicing in front of the mirror, hasn't she

La Lechera, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

haha CAD OTM

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

actually this time round i think it's not clicking cuz it sucks and is just a swampy morass of aimless sludge

first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

I quite liked this one but the album grated overall, she's such a clumsy lyricist and it's very difficult to overlook that.

Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

swampy morass of aimless sludge

Sounds great.

Matt DC, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

I get this song, and tbh it was the last thing I cut from my tracks ballot, but I def was hoping that if it hadn't showed up by #21 that it wouldn't show up

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

johnny crunch, Thursday, 26 January 2012 15:34 (fourteen years ago)

you can make out a word she's singing? there is no enunciation going on here
