<3 LBI

"We Found Love" is such a stupid song, and I really do love it so
xp: wait, did you just say "Nyan Cat is not just a loop; it is also a loop"?
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:29 (fourteen years ago)
it's prob the best use of her voice i can think of
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
LBI nailed it!
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
altho i always unintentionally mash it up in my head w/ hot chip's "we have love"
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
oh god i hate "we found love" so much
basic as fuck
i am never gonna forgive rihanna for opening the door to calvin harris becoming the go-to producer for pop stars, i can't think of any other professional producer who's so INEPT with sounds as him. fucking basic ass toy keyboards smh
i had no idea anyone except surm liked it
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
Never before has a looped piece of music been released, as just that, a loop.
Well, actually...
― Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
wait i actually don't get it--what is revolutionary about a loop
the toy keyboards on "we found love" are pretty important imo... helps it stand out from all the guetta/dr luke stuff on the radio
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)
I don't like Calvin Harris one bit but We Found Love is still a huge tune.
― abcfsk, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)
It took being faded in from a totally melancholy poetry moody ambient bit at the end of this mix for me to really appreciate 'We Found Love'. Didn't vote for it, but quite like it, finally.
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:32 (fourteen years ago)
it's remarkable, of the many ways to stand out in a good way from the radio guettavomit, harris managed to find the one thing that made it even worse
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:32 (fourteen years ago)
love that rihanna song but i feel like it would be like 10x better with a well-placed rap verse

i don't even like it as a song - i thought the funkystepz remix would solve it for me but it didn't. it's just an endless foghorn cycle in a void. as i said this song is a BASIC BITCH
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:33 (fourteen years ago)
all I can really say, lex, is that you would have despised the mid-90s when those exact same keyboards were all over every other house hit

It is a loop, but not released as "just one loop" that you yourself have to loop over and over. Rather (and I mean the 10 hours version on youtube proving how it is a work of genius and art), it will continue looping, you don't have to do anything, you turn it off when you please. It is presented that way. Which is very different from, as a listener, pressing a button for it to mechanically loop. This is an organic loop and it will go on forever, or for 2 minutes, for as long as you want it to be played.
― future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:34 (fourteen years ago)
that said it provided some amusement when i saw someone on twitter genuinely think it went "we found love in a homeless place" :/
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:34 (fourteen years ago)
It's more fun just to watch the lex wail on this one than try and intervene. I love the song, idg the complaints at all, but what a spectacle!
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:35 (fourteen years ago)
so it's revolutionary because of youtube?
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)
I get the complaint that the song is two lines of music repeated for 3:30, but considering the house tradition it's pulling from I don't really see that as a problem.
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)
when has a loop ever placed on an ILM poll? xp
― ♈ᘮﬡᕮ-Ꭹᗩᖇᗪᔕ - ᗯ ᖺ ᗢ Ḱ ᓰ ᒪ ᒪ (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)
I bet you that if we'd been polling in 2000, the Amen break had a shot
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:37 (fourteen years ago)
If those two lines weren't good, it would be a painful 3:30. Fortunately, they're VERY good.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:37 (fourteen years ago)
WFL's basicness makes it work imo.
― encarta it (Gukbe), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:37 (fourteen years ago)
also the fucking massive bass
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:38 (fourteen years ago)
LBI there's plenty of music that fits that criteria. you could say the same for a lot of video game soundtrack music for example
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)
also, these keys don't sound particularly "toyish" to me?
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)
don't really like the melody on this, and if you took rihanna out of it it would just sound like late 90s trance
― Dan S, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)
I am still back on "it's not just a loop; it is a loop" tbh
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)
i refer again to 'badger badger badger'
― omar little, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)

Pretty sure everyone on here hates Calvin Harris as much as you do, I know I certainly do but this song is so good I almost forget he's invloved. The combination of her voice and that big bass is just perfect.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:42 (fourteen years ago)
I still don't understand what makes Nyan Cat revolutionary. Looping videos have existed on the internet for years.

Fair enough, but then it serves the purpose of being a musical decor for the game. Nyan Cat isn't a decor for anything, it is Nyan Cat, and released as that.
― future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)
I didn't even credit him on the image fwiw xp
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)
did anyone ever nominate a Buddha machine in an ilm poll?
― rob, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)
should've
no-one could possibly hate calvin harris as much as lex does.xxxp
― pandemic, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:44 (fourteen years ago)
Is Calvin Harris the 2011 version of Robert Miles?

http://nyan.cat/
^despite the incorrigible imitation animation, this site is a perfect representation of what LBI is getting at. You basically turn it on, listen to Nyan Cat for however long you want and then shut it off. Basically you, the listener, decide how long the piece of music is. That's what revolutionary about it. The cuetsy cat meme aspect is just the vehicle for what amounts to almost a platonic ideal of one of the principles behind a lot of house music, including many of the songs in this countdown: the idea that pop music doesn't have to be about 'songs'--discreet units w/ beginnings and endings--but instead can be about a continuum

LBI, see Satie's "Vexations" (1893). Loops have a looooong history.
― Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:45 (fourteen years ago)
As far as loops go this tune made a bigger impression on me back in 2007 http://youtu.be/faQSs6UBDok

The original version of the song "Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!" was uploaded by user "daniwell"[4] to the Japanese video site Nico Nico Douga on July 25, 2010.[5] The song features the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku (初音ミク?). The Japanese word for the sound cats make, "nyā" (にゃあ?), is the equivalent of the English language word "meow".[1][6]A user named "Momo Momo" ("もももも") uploaded a remixed version of the song "Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!", adding the repeating vocal sound "nyan" throughout the song, to Nico Nico Douga on January 31, 2011.[7] The added vocal sound was created using the singing synthesizer software UTAU with the voice preset, "Momone Momo" (桃音モモ).[8] The UTAU voice preset, "Momone Momo", gets its name from the kanji "momo" 桃, meaning "peach", and "ne" 音, meaning "sound".[9] The voice source used to create the Momone Momo voice was Fujimoto Momoko (藤本萌々子?), a Japanese woman who lives in Tokyo.[10]

lol I know I've heard Wilco before but they apparently made absolutely no impression on me because I'm surprised this song sounds like this
I am also 100% certain that within 15 seconds of finishing this song I won't remember how it goes
