holy hell the Nyan Cat mastermix I posted may be driving me insane

Jacques Greene makes me think a little bit of the Balam Acab album

Nyan Cat is a monumental work of genius and it fully deserves its place in this list.
Amazed at the high Jacques Greene placing though - I had no idea it was so popular. I love it, but it's kind of the peak of a style (mopey post-dubstep plus disembodied r&b vocal) that I would like to go away now.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
lol @ jacques green

Matt DC is a man of exquisite taste!

Thanks for looking Dan. I want to hear the cat meowing over the NIP beat.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:14 (fourteen years ago)
idk, the pro forma for me ended up being more like "this sound at its best/peak". nguzu are a different animal imo, but I'm not sure i can explain why
xp what matt dc just said
― rob, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:14 (fourteen years ago)
happier to see the Jacques Greene here than a lot of the album cuts that comprise the middle part of this list
― Dan S, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:15 (fourteen years ago)
kinda sucks that "another girl" placed and kingdom/naomi allen's "take me" and blawan's "getting me down" probably won't
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:16 (fourteen years ago)
That blubstep sound began and ended in 2011, agreed. Okay while it lasted, but yeah, kind of over it now.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:16 (fourteen years ago)
I love it, but it's kind of the peak of a style
hahaha
― sisqó inferno (Lamp), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:16 (fourteen years ago)
"getting me down" is pretty cool, but i feel the same way about it as this
i never got into "take me"

i like what Matos wrote here: http://thesinglesjukebox.tumblr.com/post/14030309297/amnesty-2011-jacques-greene-another-girl
― rob, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:18 (fourteen years ago)
I have to admit I voted for Nyan Cat too... There's no rational explanation, but if you want some kind of reason, I think Morgan explains it best in this video:

yes, Morgan is OTM

only seen jacques green dj once and it was really cool but...this is awful?
― the emancipation of me-me (tpp), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:20 (fourteen years ago)
Jacque Greene is a really masterful build, I am digging the hell out of this after spending the first 30 seconds going "ugh whatever"
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:20 (fourteen years ago)
The Blawan will place if P&J is any indication. "Another Girl" #97, ""Getting Me Down" #44 (and higher than Rebecca Black #51).
― Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:20 (fourteen years ago)
Where's the drop??!
Catching up from being away from my computer a bit, but I lolled hard at this.

If none of the dance people were voting for Jacques Greene, then who was?
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:21 (fourteen years ago)
The Kingdom and Naomi track is just... not a very good song though, such a disappointment.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)
Matos's comment is on point, as is this:
Jonathan Bogart: At some point my fear of not getting it has to be overriden by a sheer love of beauty.
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)
well it's not really a dance song, is it
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)
it really is though! it's, um, a grower, but her closing rap => vibes for days
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:23 (fourteen years ago)
this has gotta be the corniest sample of 2011
― the emancipation of me-me (tpp), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:23 (fourteen years ago)
I guess not, but lex was talking about dancing to the Talabot/Glasser track upthead and that doesn't strike me as a dance song either.

― future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:24 (fourteen years ago)
So, wait, that means Forks didn't vote it #1, then? As I did and there were only two #1 votes.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:25 (fourteen years ago)
thought lee foss's brandy sample on "keep my cool" was prob the best r&b-sample-in-dance last year; i thought it'd be a dead cert after the less-heralded danny daze placed, but it might be a bit high to hope for now?
― first period don't give a fuck, second period gon get cut (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:25 (fourteen years ago)
I loved Kingdom ft. Naomi - think I voted for it, but 'Take Me' and Nguzunguzu's 'Deuces' remix and 'Another Girl' are all doing VERY very different things.
Anyway, I love this. One of my top 5 tracks, I'm pretty sure. I think I wrote as much as I'm going to about it over at TSJ.

yeah sorry, I was riffing off of Forks's "rolling Youtube songs I'm putting on Pazz & Jop" thread

Also, yay for Seany Mac placing so high. It didn't end up being my #1 (although it probably should have been) because I added it into the ballot last minute - wasn't sure if it should qualify at first, and so put it in high up but not at the top.

"Another Girl" sounds great indeed. I'm not sure if the manic overuse of the "whoo-hoo" sample was necessary, but other than that, great, moody post-clubbing tune.
― Tuomas, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:28 (fourteen years ago)
I love this song more every day. xp
Nyan Cat was my #1, I can prove it if I must.
It is not just a "meme", it's a different musical experience all-together, unlike anything else that has ever been made. It is not just a loop either. The idea that one can turn it off when one likes is very appealing, and in a way, revolutionary. The only thing that resembles it is listening to a locked groove. Never before has a looped piece of music been released, as just that, a loop. Nyan Cat can play forever, for 2 minutes, or 4 hours. You decide how long it lasts.
It is a work of utter, utter genius.
― future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:28 (fourteen years ago)
probably correct placement for we found love. i get it stuck in my head a lot.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:29 (fourteen years ago)
was really lukewarm on "we found love" but have considered it to be near the top of rihanna's catalog for a few months now

"We Found Love" is such a stupid song, and I really do love it so
xp: wait, did you just say "Nyan Cat is not just a loop; it is also a loop"?
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:29 (fourteen years ago)

altho i always unintentionally mash it up in my head w/ hot chip's "we have love"
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
oh god i hate "we found love" so much
basic as fuck
i am never gonna forgive rihanna for opening the door to calvin harris becoming the go-to producer for pop stars, i can't think of any other professional producer who's so INEPT with sounds as him. fucking basic ass toy keyboards smh
i had no idea anyone except surm liked it

Never before has a looped piece of music been released, as just that, a loop.
Well, actually...
― Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
wait i actually don't get it--what is revolutionary about a loop
the toy keyboards on "we found love" are pretty important imo... helps it stand out from all the guetta/dr luke stuff on the radio
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)
I don't like Calvin Harris one bit but We Found Love is still a huge tune.
