and goon influence finally gets the chance to reassert itself xp

lol, Drugs, I was being flippant.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:44 (fourteen years ago)
dan that's a reasonable definition of a melodic hardcore record actually
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:44 (fourteen years ago)
ooh i was about to complain that i'm still 1 for 25 but now it's 2
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:45 (fourteen years ago)
Zzz...
― DavidM, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:47 (fourteen years ago)
This Big K.R.I.T. song is not my thing at all, really. It's basically like G-Funk and Three Six Mafia had an enervated baby.
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:47 (fourteen years ago)
T/S: hating indie artists for exploitative videos ("Yuck") vs. hating rappers for same.
― Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:48 (fourteen years ago)
that's a long 4 minutes and change. Like Wilco long.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:48 (fourteen years ago)
yessss i love "money on the floor", think i voted for it - the beat is so gorgeous, the way all the different elements intertwine with each other - so incredibly detailed and evocative. actually obsessed with the high synth behind the chorus, such an amazing contrast to the screwed voice, and then when the key changes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
for some reason i never really care about big krit over a whole mixtape but he's made two of my favourite hip-hop songs in recent years - "country shit" and this

just catching up = seany mac, "friday", "full attention" = <333
couldn't get into that fucked up album but 'queen of hearts' isn't bad
― donna rouge, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:50 (fourteen years ago)
As it went on, I felt more and more like "Money on the Floor" was a pandering checklist put together by someone while pausing and rewinding "Hustle and Flow"
― I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:50 (fourteen years ago)
SO SO HAPPY that Full Attention placed, especially glad that I went back and added them to my ballot after initially forgetting. It's so big and expansive and punchy and expensive sounding compared to a lot of other tracks in this vein.
Also the discovery that bass wobbles sound 1,000 times better when you hit drums in time with them is something that every jobbing dubstep producer in the world should note immediately.
And the vocals, god the vocals. Amazing tune.
Haven't heard the others, something to catch up with on my commute anyway.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:51 (fourteen years ago)
lol Sanpaku idk; I dont have a Youtube account so they wouldn't let me watch the Big Krit video
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)
backing up even further: i remember the week of "friday" being huge as just being a deeply strange week because on the one hand the whole internet imploding because of that one song was deeply hilarious and awesome and otoh that was also around the same time of the fukushima disaster/tsunami/earthquake so i was also filled with this sort of existential dread that whole time
― donna rouge, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)
Yuck's videos have a real unpleasant subtext to them though which makes my skin crawl and my brow darken tho; have no idea if the KRIT one does or not
xp

full attention - awesomeseany mac - decentbig krit - i like this well enough though there's gotta be some state of the industry type commentary if it's a notable track. i will just play g-side some more for my part.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
KRIT was a cool song I thought
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
The KRIT one has a real unpleasant overtone. (NB: I hate Yuck so much I refuse to watch their video. I don't think I could hate them much more but I don't fancy finding out.)
― emil.y, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:57 (fourteen years ago)
Almost voted for KRIT's Dreamin' but ended up just going for the mixtape in the albums poll. Money On The Floor's nothing special.
― Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)
emil.y - you would hate them more. Much more.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)
Is it 'woman from Ringo Deathstarr x 1000'?
― emil.y, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:59 (fourteen years ago)
@ Drugs A Money: It's not exceptionally exploitative (for the genre). Just a lot of erotic dancers at a strip club with peeled down bottoms parading behind the rappers, and bending over to pick up piles of one dollar bills.
Vs. double exposures of dog groomers expressing anal glands and pinching their breasts.
Hard call.
― Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 17:59 (fourteen years ago)
i listened to the Yuck track last night and enjoyed it
the video is dumb though yeah
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)
xp see I figured it was straightforward strip club shenanigans. The whole tossing huge wads of one-dollar bills is always a lot weirder to see in person than it is to watch in a music video
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:02 (fourteen years ago)
(I fucked that 2nd sentence up)
emil.y - can't comment on Ringo Deathstarr as I've never seen any videos.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
friday? you people are savages!
not really a fucked up fan though i don't mind those type of vox (not entirely dissimilar from mclusky, hot snakes, future of the left)
the wilco song is pretty solid but then again they're a pretty solid band w/occasional flashes of excellence.
favorite track thus far out of what i've heard is probably kate bush (will have to catch up w/others.)
― omar little, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
the Ringo Deathstarr chick has topless photos of her wearing nothing but suspenders from the waist up and eating a sandwich
Yuck videos are worse
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:05 (fourteen years ago)
@ EZ: the RD guitarist/singer is a bit exhibitionist in self-directed videos as well as a fashion/interview photoshoot.
― Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:06 (fourteen years ago)
RD guitarist/singer has a page on ModelMayhem though I dont remember her name
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:07 (fourteen years ago)
Thanks for the crash course. I heard a song of theirs once, thought it was cut-rate second-hand shoegaze and never gave them a second look.
I think self-exploitation is very different than the Yuck thing.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:10 (fourteen years ago)
lol i keep thinking of ruff diamondz when i see rd
― teledyldonix, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:11 (fourteen years ago)
Was the Yuck video that bad? I think I must have been doing something else instead of watching, cause I don't really remember it.
― CJ Fam Club (seandalai), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:11 (fourteen years ago)
naked hitchhiker, band looking bored, naked girl looking bored. i liked the song tho.
― pandemic, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)
they also cover her in a gooey substance
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)
I like RD, but never knew anything about her exhibitionism (should see videos at some point, I guess).
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)
I missed the anal glands thankfully, but covering a naked girl with yellow cooking oil that looks kind of like urine is pretty bad imo.
― rob, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)
it was more just out of the song's character but what i'm realizing is that since music videos are only viewed on the internet every band is like "may as well throw some tits in there"
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:14 (fourteen years ago)
anal gland thing is their other video.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:14 (fourteen years ago)
Haven't seen it. Thanks for the warning.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:15 (fourteen years ago)
i thought the hitchhiker's hands being tied behind her back whilst being baptized in cooking oil was kinda key
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:16 (fourteen years ago)
good general policy with their videos, it seems.
xpost
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:16 (fourteen years ago)
Many many xps: jaymc nails it re: that Wilco song. I like it for exactly the same reason I like long, gorgeous, repetitive dance tracks. The length is the point: at four minutes it would be just a pretty little tune. This way it's hypnotic.
Fucked Up are so plainly a brilliant thing that I deeply regret my instinctive dislike of the hardcore bark.
― Meme Rogers (DL), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:16 (fourteen years ago)
Remember the abuse Roger Waters got for his Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking album cover? Yuck's video more or less that, plus nonchalance on the part of the band. Their other video for Rubber, is a good deal more upset worthy.
Not trying to derail, just bemused by the indie/rap double standard wrt exploitation.
― Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 18:17 (fourteen years ago)
It's not even the vocal quality as much as it is the full-on contempt for the voice as a musical instrument, really.
I haven't heard the F'ed Up but I do think this is a pretty good description of a particular school of hardcore vocals, for example, The Ex. It could be a deliberate decision to make the vocals unmusical in order to emphasize the political content of the lyrics. It's like: Don't listen to how I'm singing - listen to what I'm singing.
