jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:42 (fourteen years ago)

Actually, haven't heard a note from KanJay so I don't know yet if I need saving.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:42 (fourteen years ago)

i like the beat on this one a lot

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:42 (fourteen years ago)

oh c'mon even i like this and i think WTT is otherwise a total dud, beat is amazing. you really need the remix with t.i. though http://youtu.be/2vIGazA67rU

i do wish kanye could be removed from it, he needs to stop braying like an actual donkey. HUHHHHHHHHH

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

Watch The Throne is really good imo, and this song more than others. You should dig into it EZ.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

tip's verse <3 tip's horrible french accent <3

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

really don't get this song.

the emancipation of me-me (tpp), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

an acceptable place for that song, much more so than it's p&j and pfork placings

i get why it's huge but kanye is just utterly unforgivable

jay's verse is pretty hype tho

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

listening now. Good so far.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

I realized yesterday that I fucking LOVE Watch The Throne. I thought I just liked it but I dunno, I really started paying closer attention to it yesterday and it's fucking massive mixed in with some of the most positive/aspirational lyrics I've heard in a while.

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

The Wilcos of hiphop...

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

i don't know how kanye didn't get kicked out of the studio 15 seconds into recording his verse tbh

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

putting it down as one of those rap tracks u gotta hear on the radio all the time to get into

the emancipation of me-me (tpp), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

N***as is alright; I actually prefer Pitbull

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

nb pitbull's "latinos in paris" is a thing that exists: http://youtu.be/O_xnW1p-9fU

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

The beat is making this for me. Nice.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

bangs. loses points for kanye's 'contribution'. jay goes hard.

pandemic, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

yeah Jay is IMO consistently amazing on this album

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

jay and kanye track surprisingly alright!

Cashmere Combabe, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:46 (fourteen years ago)

okay wait the left turn the song takes in the last min with the piano was a nice surprise tbh

lesson: listen to entire songs before posting

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:46 (fourteen years ago)

This one should be #35 - #25 to pay homage to the fact that you can't play it just once

mh, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:46 (fourteen years ago)

This and Lift Off are the only songs I really loved from Watch The Throne. I didn't think it was a bad album just a bit forgettable, probably need to give it another play.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:47 (fourteen years ago)

Best thing I've heard from either of them in a long time. Guess I should give the album a go.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:47 (fourteen years ago)

i realized this like two months in but the album would've been legit great if it was a jay solo album -- it would've been way, way better than what they ended up putting out and way, way better than anything jay's put out since the black album

well let's not get carried away here

(actually, surprisingly enough, I kinda want to listen to it again)

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

I'm not a big fan of either so color me impressed.

I think my epiphany began when someone (on the sandbox maybe?) was talking about the dubstep track and I was all "what, I don't remember that" and when I played it I was like "holy shit Jay-Z is losing his fucking mind on this, why did I not notice this before"

Then yesterday I started playing the album in the afternoon and then listened to it on repeat for the rest of the evening

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

i'll have to try it again; i think i was just so sick of kanye when it came out.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

Taking a break from the results for a bit...be back with #34 within the hour.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:54 (fourteen years ago)

which one is "the dubstep track?"

mh, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

"Who Gon Stop Me"

Surprised that this placed so low, seems everyone I know likes this track.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:01 (fourteen years ago)

just struck me that When Saints Go Machine isn't very likely to place now ;_;

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

i'm sure there'll still be a few 'surprises' :)

nathey, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

I voted WSGM in albums, but not tracks.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

lex otm re: "Give Me Everything"; was hoping this would place a lot higher. Oversaturation at parties/dairies/passing cars/etc really helped out my love for "Give Me Everything" and "Party Rock Anthem" - both fantastically ravey with a much larger bag of tricks than each needed.

I have to step back and agree with Ann about something, or one thing among many: that Kanye line from “Niggas in Paris”? The one where someone needs to prostrate herself (and run to the bathroom stall) to prove she’s worth West’s attention? The one that makes his sex life sound like it operates on the same basic principles as Fear Factor? Yes, that’s been bugging me for months now, too. (Something about hearing the song performed three times in a row at Madison Square Garden made matters worse.) Last time I complained about it, strangers accused me of being no fun, or a prude, but I think I might even have objections to it beyond the obvious moral ones. Like Jody mentioned, the really intriguing parts of Watch the Throne were the ones that found Jay-Z and Kanye ruminating on their own success and how it fits into bigger pictures, like the post-Civil Rights trajectory of black America or the culture of the wealthy. And on a record where these guys are occasionally thinking hard about wealth and power and what they mean, Kanye keeps lagging; with That Line, he comes up with the fairly boring answer that, hey, one thing you can do with money is exploit people.

readings based on fundamentally misunderstanding someone's lyrics: C/D?

It's an album album - no one song really edges over the rest (well, okay Church & Law and Kelly are both amaze, but it's best heard from beginning to end).

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

(the "crawl before you ball" line is not about literally prostrating before Kanye, it is a rhymed working of "walk before you run"; not understanding that makes the foundation of that entire paragraph untenable)

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

in summation: there is enough evidence to paint Kanye as a sexist that stupid people don't have to invent shit
