rapture - how deep is your love?
this sounds like an amazing hercules & love affair song mistakenly given to the wrong vocalist. i actually do love everything about it except his voice which is way worse when he's "trying to sing" than when he just yelped in "sister saviour" or "out of the races..." (both of which i like) (well, the tiefschwarz remix of the former). aargh the "let me hear that song" bit pains me cuz i can hear how it should be SO AMAZING and then you've got fucking HIM ruining it.

I love the Locossolus track apart from the faux-daft punk "I want it/You got it" bit which doesn't fit very well. Happily take those bits out.

Teengirl Fantasy - Beautiful Swimmers mix is way better than Talabots!

I think I must be the only one who finds the vocals on the Teengirl Fantasy really annoying. Similarly, Glasser's vocal on Families does nothing for me - just meanders around, never really settling in. Might need to give these another spin.

The fact that it's basically just Terius recycling Yamaha makes me love Schoolin' Life even more.

So excited! Didn't vote for it because I voted for the album but this is the one song that would have made me reconsider. Such a jam.

I really wanted to like this track, I guess I'm more about The Dream than Beyonce here. I'd rather listen to Yamaha.

Love Schoolin' Life, prefer it to anything on the actual album, even Countdown.

feels so right that this placed by itself given its bonus track status contra the (a bit unwarranted) mockery of B's lyrics upthread, i think "schoolin' life" is genuinely kinda inspiring life wisdom. it's so celebratory and inclusive. i love the ring of self-mockery in the "this is for them sexysomethings / that body won't always get you out of everything" section - like it's something B herself had to learn. i want to play this song to anyone going through self-doubt. and i think i might actually just print out the last few lines and stick them to my wall:

I have no idea what I actually think of this. It's good at what it's doing, but I am not sure I ever am in the mood for something like this.

Those Beyonce lyrics read like trite self-help book nonsense on the page but they sound great in the song.

It does sound like Sting but hey we gave Jamie Woon a free pass last year for channeling the spirit of Phil Collins.

imo if Sting were making songs like this in 2011, he wouldn't be the punchline he is. Maybe it does sound like ipod commercial fodder, maybe it's a little mumblecore, but I think it's well put together and I love that synth bit that comes in around the chorus.
