Love Katy B. Voted for album instead of track, and there are a couple of better singles (Witches' Brew, Broken Record, Movement) than Easy Please Me but good to see her place.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

i'm in favor of breaking more individual album/track threads off out of the rolling threads. it's a trivial example but when cad made a thread for the curren$y record last year it got me to listen to it where i probably would have just skimmed over it if it was only discussed in rolling rap.

obviously you don't want to make a thread for every record but the ones that you think will have some appeal outside of rolling thread regulars, go for it.

i am so terrible at judging crossover appeal ;_;

nice

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

as i said before if i started a thread for every song i loved it'd be like spam, and if EVERYONE did it, yeesh

I wouldn't start a thread for EVERY song you like, but it might be worth starting a thread for your absolute favorites. You did this last year with "Wut," for instance.

(Of course, it might've helped had that thread been more descriptively titled. I was baffled that a track/artist I had never heard of wound up on top of the ILM poll last year, since I never managed to click on a thread titled "~WUT WUT WUT WUT WUT~.")

Girl I want to take you to a JBR (jaymc), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

the poll is really indie-light this year

or is it all lurking at the top..?

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:55 (fourteen years ago)

another great track!

Dan S, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

wut wut wut?

xp

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i totally missed the WUT thread because of the name, i pretty much click on any thread with an Artist - Title format title but others not so much

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

creep!!!!

"you" is such a beautiful song. i probably voted for it. i was sad that "days" came out in the awkward mid-dec period where it fell between two years of voting. i'm really looking forward to their album.

heh ironically i actually did start a thread for an individual creep single and then it was all tumbleweeds for MONTHS and no one cared, and then suddenly they did care. hurrah.

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

"You" is so bad-ass, easily one of the best songs of the year

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:59 (fourteen years ago)

ciderpress, I was making a meta joke, actually I meant to be like 'waht?' at your assertion that this poll has been indie-light? I mean, there was a pretty big patch of indie earlier today...

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:59 (fourteen years ago)

I voted for "days" last year and again this year!
don't know anything about creep but those two singles are great

Dan S, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:00 (fourteen years ago)

I feel like none of my pet favorites ever gain any traction around here with the exception of a few people who see eye-to-eye with me sometimes. The one exception this year was "Heaven," which I was happy a few other people liked.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:01 (fourteen years ago)

You! First track I voted for. Really really love this, but it ended up placing mid-range in my ballot, strangely.

Gorgeous. Probably my favourite CREEP track. The new one w/ Holly Miranda is the first to not be AMAZING, so hopefully they'll get back on track soon.

Also, Nina Sky. They are the best. Can we have a new album plz?

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:01 (fourteen years ago)

Nina Sky is super-cool but I'm not huge on this, and I remember really liking 'Days'

I feel ya JF, still 0 for 25 over here

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:01 (fourteen years ago)

i like "animals" fine - yeah, not as obsessively looping it as with "days" and "you" but it's fine, very happy when i do listen to it

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

i think i'm 1 for 25, will try to dig my ballot out of the wreckage of my former hard drive tonight

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

that's a bummer; sorry to hear about that

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:05 (fourteen years ago)

is this just going to run through thursday or are we slowrolling the last 20?

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

I could slowroll the last 20 if people want me to. Would give me more time to make the pics, tbh.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:09 (fourteen years ago)

the pictures are really nice btw

Dan S, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

JF's pics are hosted somewhere that's supposed to be blocked at work but every now and then I refresh the page and a few sneak through the filter and I go "oooh! Nice" :D

Jeff W, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:19 (fourteen years ago)

yes, glad at least one of the Benoit & Sergio tracks placed

Dan S, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

i think i actually like ending on thursday better, was just curious

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

sigh i just don't get benoit & sergio at all. it's fine if a bit dull until the vocals come in and they're such a fucking downer

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

xp
i voted for "snowflake", so i am not 100% alone with my taste here. that makes me feel better. of all the other songs i didn't know any. what would slowrolling mean? one song per hour? in general the idea of slowness appeals very much to me.

alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

Slowroll = splitting the top 20 over two days (10 per). Doesn't matter to me, really. If people want it all done on Thursday, I can do that.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:23 (fourteen years ago)

I like when you give it to us hard and fast.

John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:24 (fourteen years ago)

lex, do you just generally dislike lower male voices

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

lex, do you just generally dislike lower male voices

i don't think it's the register so much as the timbre and context. i loved the male vocal in the danny daze track...

the emancipation of me-me (tpp), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

pleased to see the two talabot tracks and pleased to hear this mario & vidis remix i didn't know about. love the bassline.

69 - INVISIBLE CONGA PEOPLE "In a Hole" (190 Points, 8 Votes)
63 - STEFFI ft. VIRGINIA "Yours" (208 Points, 10 Votes, 1 First-Place Vote)

Really enjoying my listens in, these two were the ones that I felt really strongly for, on one listen

Of the oldies: disappointed in that Kate Bush track, seems like it wants to be warm your winter but it translates to dread, for some reason.

The Lulu is amazing tho'. Shames all the other guitar tracks. Need to get the album sometime (more bcz its an Alban Berg thing tho')

If you slowroll, please have it done by 1pm EST (= 'won't see me for dust' time for Britishers).

Jeff W, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:30 (fourteen years ago)

don't mind the downer lyrics of this...the track is very hypnotic

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

Re: Creep. Voted for "Days" instead (which seems unlikely to place), as "You" is trip-hop unvarnished by the passing years.

The dance massive is certainly out this year. Its just a different dance massive than mine.

Plato’s The Cave In Claymation (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, i love that sleazy, druggy, hypnotic sound, seems somewhat of a piece with "in a hole" to me

xxp

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

nice! this was on my longlist and i didn't know whether it had a chance of placing

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:32 (fourteen years ago)

huh well i love "grove st party" a lot but i had no idea it was a 2011 thing

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:33 (fourteen years ago)

haha the more I hear of contemporary hip-hop, the more I like Waka in comparison

dude would not have a career in Juvenile's heyday but I guess someone had to take up the baton

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:33 (fourteen years ago)

thugged out ecstasy rap will never not be amazing tho

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:33 (fourteen years ago)

"grove st party" is the shit, but i don't really think of it as a 2011 song

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

Voted for "Principles" (a few extra vocal gears with the pitched-down "PRINCIPES" + the Remain In Light-era Byrne bug-eyed mania), but glad "Walk & Talk" placed - the dreamy smear of the vocals suits the lyrics perfectly. "When I come home she doesn't even say hello" :(

many xposts: YESSS "Grove Street Party"

etc, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

I also voted for Principles instead of Walk & Talk but it was a tough choice.
