Critics do seem to love other kinds of R&B too though, for example Pitchfork seems to throw in a few R&B albums in their lists each year which have recently included The-Dream, Erykah Badu and this year Beyonce, you know albums you love. I'm no Frank Ocean fan, but your reason for disliking him seems strange. It's the same way you hate Robyn because she's the pop act a lot of indie kids like.

btw, I'm not much of a clubber. In my club days, I was the guy sitting at the table watching sweaters and purses of all the girls I'd come with as they danced.

yeah i don't dance much but i still enjoy listening to dance music, i don't think it's a club-only thing at all

Never heard of the Teengirl Fantasy remix before. A bit long at 7 minutes but as usual with Talabot he knows how to keep things interesting.

"no boy's on the level, believe me" is a killer line but musically it's one of the weaker tracks on the album. Here I've lost my hope "Witches' Brew" is gonna place.

there's a thing about music in 2011 that I complained about on I think a sandbox thread where a good chunk of it prizes shiny smoothness over jagged enthusiasm; if you are triggered by the latter, I don't think that Teengirl Fantasy remix is going to do it for you

(actually this seems like the direction music has been going for like the past 5 years, both on the critical and popular appreciation tracks; it's part of why things like "Pumped Up Kicks" are so fucking unbearable, it's so POLITE and MANNERED and uses a bunch of finely-tuned signifiers building towards a specific emotion rather than starting with a raw response and then refining it)

this poll has made me wonder why every video released now has to have some bullshit not-the-song drama bit going on

i think the production on "easy please me" is great. it took me a little bit to warm up to it though.

"Now I love a bad boy mentality / But I don't want to be visiting no jail" is another great lyric. So happy this placed.

I think I'd blanked on the "Cheaters" remix; turns out what I'd heard was the original (which I figured was a remix due to the sampling, heh).

Just checking into this thread today because, hello, Oscar nominations, but I wanted to add that I was Yuck's other #1 vote.

Glad to see Little Dog here; the ballot from a user I won't name here (let's call him "Confunded") that had this as #1 and no other tracks certainly helped its cause.

I missed all the comments about the insularity of rolling threads, but what is being suggested as an alternate? I'm pretty sure there'd be a lot of bitching if the new answers suddenly was overrun with fifty new threads about different metal albums that end up being talked about for a week before disappearing. Makes infinitely more sense to me to keep that stuff in a rolling thread.

yeah this is otm. as i said before if i started a thread for every song i loved it'd be like spam, and if EVERYONE did it, yeesh

rolling threads aren't that insular tbh, and apart from the rap one they don't even move that fast these days

It isn't THAT shiny and smooth, I think it hits a sort of just-post-peak-time bittersweet house vibe pretty much dead on, and its all about the chords underneath, they give the vocals legs they didn't have in the original track.
