man the last time I was in a club... okay was last year at M.I.A./Rye Rye

I miss dancing ;_;

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

i like this a lot

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

relistening and it is pretty fantastic huh

I AM GOING RAVING MORE IN 2012 i will not be cheated out of these moments by "injury" or "work" or "tiredness"

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

i need to listen to "cheaters" again, i feel like i should've liked it a lot, but iirc it kinda left me cold

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

wow so that was great

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

frank ocean crit love = turns out that when r&b's made by a miserabilist faux-profound dude in his bedroom SUDDENLY critics are all over it

― tinie tempurah (lex pretend)

Critics do seem to love other kinds of R&B too though, for example Pitchfork seems to throw in a few R&B albums in their lists each year which have recently included The-Dream, Erykah Badu and this year Beyonce, you know albums you love. I'm no Frank Ocean fan, but your reason for disliking him seems strange. It's the same way you hate Robyn because she's the pop act a lot of indie kids like.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

really happy danny daze placed, i voted for "down her", though

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

wonder if this is a track that only makes sense if you've ever stepped foot in a club. i haven't and as such it just seems pleasant.

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

I can definitely appreciate it outside the context of a night clubbing.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

fair enough

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

yeah this is good

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

btw, I'm not much of a clubber. In my club days, I was the guy sitting at the table watching sweaters and purses of all the girls I'd come with as they danced.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

i'll have to try it again cause my reaction was same as pandemic's

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:29 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i don't dance much but i still enjoy listening to dance music, i don't think it's a club-only thing at all

abcfsk, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

standing at the bar with my friend oliviaaaa <3

i was wondering which katy b tracks would place - i voted for the album, no tracks, but i could imagine many of them placing

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

such a corny song

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

standing in the bar with my friend olivia is one of my favourite lines practically ever

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

nice! I'm afraid Katy suffered from vote splitting, though :/

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

Worst Katy B single of the year. Still wonderful.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

Love this song, but I didn't vote for it, probably should have. Love the image too!

NO BOY IS ON A LEVEL BELIEVE ME <3 <3

btw the talabot remix of mario & vidis is SUPER GREAT, hadn't heard before - thx dan s for the heads up

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

Never heard of the Teengirl Fantasy remix before. A bit long at 7 minutes but as usual with Talabot he knows how to keep things interesting.

Moka, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

"no boy's on the level, believe me" is a killer line but musically it's one of the weaker tracks on the album. Here I've lost my hope "Witches' Brew" is gonna place.

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:35 (fourteen years ago)

there's a thing about music in 2011 that I complained about on I think a sandbox thread where a good chunk of it prizes shiny smoothness over jagged enthusiasm; if you are triggered by the latter, I don't think that Teengirl Fantasy remix is going to do it for you

(actually this seems like the direction music has been going for like the past 5 years, both on the critical and popular appreciation tracks; it's part of why things like "Pumped Up Kicks" are so fucking unbearable, it's so POLITE and MANNERED and uses a bunch of finely-tuned signifiers building towards a specific emotion rather than starting with a raw response and then refining it)

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:35 (fourteen years ago)

this poll has made me wonder why every video released now has to have some bullshit not-the-song drama bit going on

summer sun, something's begun, but uh-oh those tumblr whites (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:35 (fourteen years ago)

oo, this gets good around 2:40

rob, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

i think the production on "easy please me" is great. it took me a little bit to warm up to it though.

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

"Now I love a bad boy mentality / But I don't want to be visiting no jail" is another great lyric. So happy this placed.

I think I'd blanked on the "Cheaters" remix; turns out what I'd heard was the original (which I figured was a remix due to the sampling, heh).

etc, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

Just checking into this thread today because, hello, Oscar nominations, but I wanted to add that I was Yuck's other #1 vote.

Girl I want to take you to a JBR (jaymc), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

Glad to see Little Dog here; the ballot from a user I won't name here (let's call him "Confunded") that had this as #1 and no other tracks certainly helped its cause.

lol no shame in my game

Confounded, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

Katy B is very good, huh

I feel like Selena Gomez should move to the UK and work with producers there, she would likely become much more interesting as a result

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

sadly not really into this katy b trac

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

Prefer the other mix of cheaters, forgot who does it - beautiful swimmers?

Can't comment on the other recent tracks as I'm on phone now and can't play

Cashmere Combabe, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

xpost lex, yeah I wish more people had heard the talabot remix of mario/vidis. I'm sure it won't show up here

Also wanted to cosign all of the comments earlier about the insularity of rolling threads.

Girl I want to take you to a JBR (jaymc), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

Missed out on a lot of this countdown so I'm sorry if I missed it, but is there a running Spotify playlist?

encarta it (Gukbe), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

hahaha I just made the "One thing I can't stand is Africans" mistake

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

okay the Cheaters remix is not the one I remember, it mightve been the original or the Beautiful Swimmers...

there was a time when "Easy Please Me" was my #2 song, but I eventually got kind of sick of it; I voted for another Katy B song, but she's dope and I'm happy about her placing regardless

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

Reposting the Spotify playlist http://open.spotify.com/user/sp10000/playlist/5w1deUncq412xqQJmwkFm5

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

xp to DJP
Gomez needs something. i'd just listened to 2NE1 for the first time right before that and SG's lack of energy suffered a lot by comparison

rob, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

I missed all the comments about the insularity of rolling threads, but what is being suggested as an alternate? I'm pretty sure there'd be a lot of bitching if the new answers suddenly was overrun with fifty new threads about different metal albums that end up being talked about for a week before disappearing. Makes infinitely more sense to me to keep that stuff in a rolling thread.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

there were four times when I picked songs on my traxx ballot whose parent albums I'd also voted for

GGD & Katy B were two of them

yeah this is otm. as i said before if i started a thread for every song i loved it'd be like spam, and if EVERYONE did it, yeesh

rolling threads aren't that insular tbh, and apart from the rap one they don't even move that fast these days

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

It isn't THAT shiny and smooth, I think it hits a sort of just-post-peak-time bittersweet house vibe pretty much dead on, and its all about the chords underneath, they give the vocals legs they didn't have in the original track.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

yeah the organ makes it in that track
