What, nobody made a video?

(props to that "End of Time" remix for retaining the syncopation, I was concerned at first)

I just hope he can keep his "ugh this is awful shit" stuff in check when others are enjoying tracks he doesn't like.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 24 January 2012
naw I think this is a thread where this is awful shit is just as valid as this is dope. all tracks are fair game

of all these precover tracks considered voting for Tylerw's take on "Brandenburg Gate" but in the end I didn't, so here's a little shoutout
― V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)
Awesome confounded!!! Great track.
I don't know, I really wanted to crap on that awful Selena Gomez track earlier, but it didn't seem like the place to do that when people were so obviously enjoying it. I'm of the opinion that I'll just stay silent on the ones I don't like.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)
Catching up on the past hour or so...
Love Snowflake, though I seem to be one of the few people here who think Wild Man (which I voted for) is the best song on the album.
Glad to see Little Dog here; the ballot from a user I won't name here (let's call him "Confunded") that had this as #1 and no other tracks certainly helped its cause.
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)
Hahahahaha loving this. Haven't heard the original one tho but we can all agree this is much better.
― Moka, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:53 (fourteen years ago)
Obviously!
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:53 (fourteen years ago)
i voted confounded, not #1 tho, sorry
― pandemic, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
I'm of the opinion that I'll just stay silent on the ones I don't like.
this is the only thread where I'll call out shit and say that shit has got got go. would never do it on its own thread but if things are going to come out the dark of their own threads and sit under the spotlight then that's their own fault
― Cashmere Combabe, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
I ended up not voting any of the precover tracks because no one nominated mine ;_; but it's awesome to see at least one here
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
'Little Dog' is truly great. Voted for the album, too.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
I went for confounded and AIXTC

...what is this? what is lulu?
i am less than a minute in and i am struggling. is it comedy?
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:00 (fourteen years ago)
oh frank ocean can fuck off though for real
i hope "the view" is going to make it
― teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)
nope, 1:34 into "little dog" and couldn't take it any more
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)
xp Lulu is the Lou Reed/Metallica album. ILXors covered it before it was released, based on song titles and runtimes alone.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)
...why?
i think i might back away slowly from this subject
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:03 (fourteen years ago)
Did you miss when they did that to the last U2 album too?
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:03 (fourteen years ago)
they did it for fun, lex
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
(sorry for the spotify monologue)"Hell on Heels" is pretty great. The intro-ness of it makes it sound like the theme song to an edgy basic cable show...which I kind of like.
"The Bizness" is better than I remembered. Pretty much hated this on first listen. Still think it sounds like a 90s hippie fantasy team-up between Ani Difranco and Rusted Root.
― rob, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
yes
two ilxors actually did make tracks last year that were in the running for my ballot though, lol. (rev and k8)
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
last two songs (before F Ocean) are pretty good tbh
hey DJP I voted for End of Time (and a diff't song that you took part in)
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
I like this Frank Ocean song. Didn't vote for it, but I like it anyway. Seems someone needs to have its back.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:05 (fourteen years ago)
I just don't get Frank Ocean.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:06 (fourteen years ago)
^same
gotta say this is a pretty sweet list so far (i didn't vote for tracks) - loving this konshens track
― donna rouge, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:06 (fourteen years ago)
frank ocean crit love = turns out that when r&b's made by a miserabilist faux-profound dude in his bedroom SUDDENLY critics are all over it
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:07 (fourteen years ago)
xpotm, even when i don't like individual tracks, the spotify playlist is pretty fun to just listen to through so far
― rob, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:07 (fourteen years ago)
this is nice but seems totally unremarkable.
― skip, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:07 (fourteen years ago)
I like Frank Ocean a lot, apparently! The more I hear by him, the more appealing I find him (lol baritones unite).
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:08 (fourteen years ago)
There's a world of difference between saying 'I'm not into this' or 'I dislike this because...' and 'who the fuck voted for this bollocks?'

Glad to see Konshens place, even though I voted for other dancehall tracks - have no idea what the ILM dancehall consensus was last year, as most of what I heard was via rtc/Lex/Tim in non-dancehall threads.
Hadn't heard the 3BallMTY and the Steffi before, great stuff.
― etc, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:09 (fourteen years ago)
Voted the frank ocean album v high on my ballot, and, i think 'novacane'. Love this track too.i'm not nor would i want to be a critic
― pandemic, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:09 (fourteen years ago)
Why does critical acclaim play any part in your Frank Ocean hate. I mean, I kinda get it...fans of some bands turn me off to the bands themselves, so I understand the external influence being a factor. But instead of using critics as a red herring, come at Frank Ocean (or whoever) directly.
I just like his voice/beats. Big deal. I don't think about the larger landscape of real/fake r&b when I'm listening to him.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:10 (fourteen years ago)
"Novacane" is the one I voted for, too.
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:10 (fourteen years ago)
now Novacane, that is anything but an unremarkable song
― skip, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:12 (fourteen years ago)
Thinking About You is the one Frank Ocean song I like.
― SOPA/PILLA (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:12 (fourteen years ago)
i like this song and "novacane" but not crazy about either of them
― teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)
"Swim Good" has an appealing smoothness: doesn't seem unbearably angsty nor does it seem exceptionally hooky
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, I wouldn't have voted "Swim Good" if I'd heard it before now but it lies pretty directly in my comfort zone (and tbh, I just like dude's voice).
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:14 (fourteen years ago)
oh well initially i listened to the album and thought it was completely unremarkable as skip says - no reason to listen to or think about it again, would've just gone on to the pile of listened-once-forgot-about-forever albums were it not for critics/blogs/whoever rallying around him and suddenly making him a *thing*
i don't think he's terrible like the weeknd but i do think his songwriting is really basic and his voice seems kinda weak to me, not emotionally compelling anyway. i loved the song he wrote for beyoncé but that just illustrated that his material needs a really strong performer
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 18:14 (fourteen years ago)
there was one song on the album i did like more than the others but i can't remember which one. not "novacane"
