lol "I Care" is definitely in the running for most moronic lyric on the album ("You see these tears falling down to my ears"!!!!!!!)

some dude, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

I think the Danny Daze just about gets away with the godawful triteness of the lyrics as it's a more hynoptic/creepy thing, but yeah, those Beyoncé lyrics are terrible.

emil.y, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

("You see these tears falling down to my ears"!!!!!!!)

that makes sense when you consider how much of her life beyoncé must spend standing in front of a wind machine

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

Fuck I knew I should have bought the deluxe version of Beyonce.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

irl lol, lex.

maybe she's so upset she's lying on her back sobbing

or maybe she's like "Wicked" #defyinggravity

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

The Danny Daze track is so dope though. I'm glad that one made it. Probably most likely from the Hot Creations releases this year, backed it over Forward Motion.

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

despite the could-be-better lyrics, I Care is still one of the more powerful tracks on the album I think

1 plus 1 is pretty cool, maybe like my 6th favorite song on 4 (bonus tracks included)

horseshoe, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:31 (fourteen years ago)

love 1+1

horseshoe, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:31 (fourteen years ago)

"schoolin' life" and "countdown" were both on my ballot, so I didn't really want to vote for any more beyoncé tracks, but "1+1" is so awe-inspiring. yeah the lyrics are a bit silly, but I like the paired down simplicity of it all, and terius does a really great job with the arrangement too. love her voice surrendering to the guitar at the end <3

Oh I agree 100%! That and "I Miss You" are my favorite ballads on the album.

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

kinda grew tired of this one, but it's still nice to see "Nuh" place! jamaican (?) accent will cease to amuse me

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:36 (fourteen years ago)

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!

so many amazing dancehall tracks this year i had no idea which to vote for (and in fact which i DID vote for) but this should've been one. such a great premise of a song - love how he simultaneously berates the shit dj AND seduces the girl, and never loses the smoothness at any point

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:36 (fourteen years ago)

This is such an ILM track for me.

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:37 (fourteen years ago)

LOVE THIS.

prolego, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

haha, he *almost* loses the smoothness in that line about reading "off a poster/no sir"

rob, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

xxp haha, I don't think I'd pay attention to this track if it wasn't for the Lex

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:39 (fourteen years ago)

this is good but... it's making me nostalgic for Sean Paul?

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:39 (fourteen years ago)

btw, preemptive thank you to whoever makes the spotify playlist for this when it's done, have much post-job catching up to do

rob, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

Good morning everyone. Let's take it from here.

First time hearing of Konshens. Sounds good on first listen but it doesn't quite grip me the way 'like glue' or 'hold yuh' did... is dancehall a popular genre on the UK?

Moka, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

nostalgic for Sean Paul

an emotion that underpins all our lives ;_;

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

I genuinely <3 lex's enthusiasm this stretch!

I just hope he can keep his "ugh this is awful shit" stuff in check when others are enjoying tracks he doesn't like.

rob, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:44 (fourteen years ago)

unfortunately there are a few tracks missing already because they aren't on spotify but what can you do.

skip, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:44 (fourteen years ago)

I love that Konshens song, undeniable stuff. Danny Daze managed to pass me by altogether.

Still think 1+1 doesn't manage to scale the heights it aims for, if you're going to try and imitate Prince in epic ballad mode you have to be damn sure you can pull it off. Beyonce does her best but under all the guitars and bluster it's quite a small and simple song and that skeletal guitar figure underneath betrays that. Contrast to End of Time which initially seems a straightforward club banger and just spreads out to feel properly epic.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:45 (fourteen years ago)

^^^ I think that is very OTM (and part of why "End of Time" is my favorite song on the album)

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:46 (fourteen years ago)

I am trying to figure out why Konshens isn't full on slaying me like I think it should; I think maybe it's the lack of snare? My reaction was basically "wow I bet if someone remixed this, it would full-on MURDER"

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:48 (fourteen years ago)

awesome

skip, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:48 (fourteen years ago)

Also Mindkilla is storming and Snowflake is beautiful, excellent run. Cosign anyone who had Mindkilla as the best track on Eye Contact. Is it too much to hope that I'll Blu's Meltdown might place?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:49 (fourteen years ago)

What, nobody made a video?

fun loving and xtremely tolrant (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:49 (fourteen years ago)

(props to that "End of Time" remix for retaining the syncopation, I was concerned at first)

of all these precover tracks considered voting for Tylerw's take on "Brandenburg Gate" but in the end I didn't, so here's a little shoutout

Awesome confounded!!! Great track.

I don't know, I really wanted to crap on that awful Selena Gomez track earlier, but it didn't seem like the place to do that when people were so obviously enjoying it. I'm of the opinion that I'll just stay silent on the ones I don't like.
