I'm fine with this but I voted for the album and not any of the tracks.

Listened to this quite a bit, but didn't vote for it.

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:59 (fourteen years ago)

nice work isolating the best song on the kate bush album, ilx

listening to the first three tracks (this is the first) first thing in the morning before anyone else is awake has been a spellbinding thing to do this winter

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

haven't heard this yet
fuck you emi

nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that was pretty firmly an album-not-tracks vote for me. good song tho

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

(i voted for the album on the strength of those three songs; sadly the last four are kinda...negligible)

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

it'll be in the edit too! i don't know what the relevant times are in that though

oh okay! tbh "melody" threw me there, I was expecting to hear something more fugue-like with sustained interlocking musical lines going along (kind of, um, like what the tune-yards stuff does)

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

I'm gonna be lucky to get one track to place i think.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:00 (fourteen years ago)

Don't think about what's missing, think about what's here!

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

oh okay! tbh "melody" threw me there, I was expecting to hear something more fugue-like with sustained interlocking musical lines going along (kind of, um, like what the tune-yards stuff does)

yeah i realised as soon as i posted that "melody" wasn't what i meant. possibly "counterpoint" wasn't either. "those things that bounce off the main melody in a deeply satisfying way"

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

So I never really got into Aerial. I feel like picking up this KB album would be a bit like starting with the 6th series of the Wire. Does it matter that all I've really listened to is Hounds Of Love?

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

this is v beautiful :) the only tracks i had heard from this album were kinda disappointing so maybe i will have to check the whole thing out after all

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

That Danny Daze track: my best discovery from this list so far.

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

i downloaded a 30 second sample from lastfm
nathey 1 vs 0 emi

I voted for 'Yonkers' so I'm fairly sure that'll be in. Everything else - I doubt it.

Don't think about what's missing, think about what's here!

man, there are some songs on my ballot that I knew had zero chance of making it but man they are SO GOOD

I guess I can't be a one-man Lamb street team ;_;

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:08 (fourteen years ago)

oh PS this Kate Bush song is FANTASTIC

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

yeah it is really amazing

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

oh my danny daze is a looker

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

i really hope LJ has heard the kate bush record, wherever he is

ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

if emil.y is right she only has one then I guess I have zero. But I still think one will make it. Keep the faith emil.y!

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

oh dammit, I apparently didn't save my final ballot ;_;

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:13 (fourteen years ago)

"Snowflake" my #3 :) Voted for the album too but this is so great, needed to be here.

I feel like picking up this KB album would be a bit like starting with the 6th series of the Wire. Does it matter that all I've really listened to is Hounds Of Love?
Nah, not at all.

Jeff W, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

I guess I just love the community aspect of this more than worrying about whether some obscure song I (and only I) like places somewhere in the top 77. If you voted for it, it's somewhere in the long list. Meanwhile, hear some stuff you haven't heard and figure out what makes it so appealing to other voters.

(I feel like a kindergarten teacher.)

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

*raises hand* Mr Fever, I hafta potty

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:16 (fourteen years ago)

if you like 'your everything' then make sure you check the b-side 'fall away from love' which is also extremely good.

the emancipation of me-me (tpp), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

sorry bout complaining earlier; there was a huge gap where no one was responding

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

I guess I felt that I should fill it with something; that was probably the wrong thing though. This list has been a lot of fun so far

52 - BEYONCÉ "1+1" (229 Points, 9 Votes)
P&J - 78
Pitchfork - 26

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

I liked the Battles album as a whole. I may be the only one here, so I thought I'd throw that out as a dissenting opinion.

mh, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

what is beyonce crying about?

skip, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

the image here, great job <3

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

how many Beyonce tracks are gonna end up on this, do you think?

Pretty sure "Countdown" is a lock for top 20, is there also enough support for an outlier like "Love On Top" or "Schoolin' Life"?

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

Aww, Snowflake! 1,000 x better than the Mogwai song upthread in the long-arsed sombre piano song stakes imo.

Can't listen to that Beyonce song in our house cos it upsets the dog.

Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:22 (fourteen years ago)

i don't know much about algurburrr but '1+1' is wayyy too low

the emancipation of me-me (tpp), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:22 (fourteen years ago)

"1 + 1" is a supremely stupid song ("IF I AIN'T GOT SOMETHING I DON'T GIVE A DAMN CAUSE I GOT IT WITH YOU!") but a really good-sounding one nonetheless.

some dude, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:22 (fourteen years ago)

<3 <3 <3 <3 "1+1"

might have expected it higher but then again beyoncé of all people would have suffered from vote splitting, and i didn't vote for this song

her realest ballad though. "i don't know much about fighting but i know i / i would fight for you / and just when i ball up my fists i realise / i'm laying right next to you" - every time i listen to it i still end up basically stopping everything else i'm doing

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:23 (fourteen years ago)

this was high on my ballot. stunning song.

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

so glad i haven't wasted any time listening to any of these indie bands for years.

historyyy (prettylikealaindelon), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

"schoolin' life" would be amazing - "countdown" a lock for the top 10 though i think?

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

also do they realize that this part:

Hey! I don't know much about guns but I...I've been shot by you
Hey! And I don't know when I'm gon die, but I hope that I'm gon die by you

kind of sounds like "i hope someday you murder me"?

some dude, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

"1 + 1" is a supremely stupid song ("IF I AIN'T GOT SOMETHING I DON'T GIVE A DAMN CAUSE I GOT IT WITH YOU!") but a really good-sounding one nonetheless.

haha yeah, on 4 really got the sonics to transcend many of the colossally stupid things she was saying ("I care/I know you don't care too much/But I still care/La la la la la/Baby" <--- well thank you for that nugget of wisdom)

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:25 (fourteen years ago)

I like that Danny Daze song. Never heard it before but quite fine.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:25 (fourteen years ago)

"i don't know much about fighting but i know i / i would fight for you / and just when i ball up my fists i realise / i'm laying right next to you"

what a bizarre lyric, I would dump anyone who was doing that when they were lying next to me

skip, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:25 (fourteen years ago)

Guilty pleasure/new listen so far on this list is probably Yuck. Just for shameless exploiting my teenage soundtrack nostalgia circa 1995 in a way I'm not entirely comfortable with.

MikoMcha, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 17:25 (fourteen years ago)

the picked sus chord in the beginning always reminds me of "Chasing Heather Crazy", haha
