xxp to lex: I think the shorter edit is a bit better as an introduction to the tune - exhibits all the strengths and leaves the craving for repeats or the proper version

it's probably not the right term - i mean the weird metallic sounding synth in the background that comes in at each drop, at eg 4:43, and the wordless vocal hook at eg 5:55

yeah i realised as soon as i posted that "melody" wasn't what i meant. possibly "counterpoint" wasn't either. "those things that bounce off the main melody in a deeply satisfying way"

So I never really got into Aerial. I feel like picking up this KB album would be a bit like starting with the 6th series of the Wire. Does it matter that all I've really listened to is Hounds Of Love?

Nah, not at all.

I guess I just love the community aspect of this more than worrying about whether some obscure song I (and only I) like places somewhere in the top 77. If you voted for it, it's somewhere in the long list. Meanwhile, hear some stuff you haven't heard and figure out what makes it so appealing to other voters.

"1 + 1" is a supremely stupid song ("IF I AIN'T GOT SOMETHING I DON'T GIVE A DAMN CAUSE I GOT IT WITH YOU!") but a really good-sounding one nonetheless.
