uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

the 'mary timony band' stuff w/ the dudes from medications backing her is really dope

some dude, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

High fives!

xpost

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

yessssss, finally something I voted for

the chorus is murderous

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

oh cool i will check that

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:03 (fourteen years ago)

Gonna have to track those Timony records down.

I'm glad to see our Mary band of brothers is growing!

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:03 (fourteen years ago)

Another GGD track. I honestly thought Adult Goth / Chinese High were the big tracks off of this album. Think seeing them live at Primavera in the summer was what sealed the record off as classic.

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:03 (fourteen years ago)

I'd have picked "Adult Goth" if I'd voted for a GGD track, but this one's great too.

Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:04 (fourteen years ago)

mindkilla is a good track, better pick for trax ballot than the other one that placed

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:04 (fourteen years ago)

this was real good live
but they peaked too early with house jam second

nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:04 (fourteen years ago)

'Mindkilla' is the first song in this countdown I really like since Quik, and yet, seeing it here makes me die inside a bit

(bcz 'Adult Goth' was my #1 pick)

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

this is the first one i voted for. love iiiit. they get better with every record.

Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

loved the live version from P4k Fest, longer & jammier outro ruled

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

xp, Mountains by Mary Timony is very good. I did rather like Helium's Dungeons & Dragons period and it's not a million miles away from that.

Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

I def think I'm gonna check out some Mary Timony solo stuff; The Magic City is a rad record!

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

I think if they play London any time soon, I'll go. Festival was alright, but they were on a bit of a weird stage and I reckon they'd put on a much more interesting show at a gig.

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

"mindkilla" is superb - the interpolation of "mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird" works so well - love the distortion on her voice there

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

GGD are amazing live, i saw them at xoyo last year and it was superb

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

Also - I nearly jumped for joy when I found I could understand the sample of Chinese High is saying "Good Morning!" (teaching myself Mandarin Chinese since Christmas, slowly but surely)

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

ha! what happened?

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

Not the Quik track I voted for, but I can roll with it

SOPA/PILLA (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

GGD and Battles albums were both disappointing follow-ups for me, but Mindkilla and Ice Cream were the best songs off each imo. Didn't vote for either, have scored zilch so far.

Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:31 (fourteen years ago)

GGD aside, these are not the indie songs I was hoping for. Go Team is probably my favorite of the bunch, but still seems slight

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:33 (fourteen years ago)

great jpg for Mind Killa

Never 'eard of it.

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:44 (fourteen years ago)

It's good. Also, great video.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:44 (fourteen years ago)

yessssss

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:45 (fourteen years ago)

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fucking love this song, was very very high in my ballot - one of my dead certs. the counterpoint melody! the vertiginous drops! the autumnal male diva! this is everything i ever want from dance music.

hot creations were SO ON IT this year <3

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:45 (fourteen years ago)

this is great
sooper dooper

nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:46 (fourteen years ago)

xp the video that was posted on the song's thread (the one with people dancing in some kind of a church...) was even better!

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:46 (fourteen years ago)

wow never heard this before, i love it

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:46 (fourteen years ago)

this is pretty great

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:47 (fourteen years ago)

wow, that was my #2 actually! I'm pleasantly surprised with myself

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:47 (fourteen years ago)

damn this stupid music-free job. i wanna hear it now!

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:47 (fourteen years ago)

i didn't vote and everything is shite.

(great stuff so far! i preferred yesterday's run to today's so far but even if i had the right to complain i wouldn't be.)

(somehow i always seem blind to polls on site new answers until we're halfway through the results, is my excuse.)

sunn :o))) (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:48 (fourteen years ago)

YOUR EYES YOUR LIPS YOUR EVERYTHING
THE WAY YOU WALK THE WAY YOU TALK YOUR EVERYTHING

<3 <3 <3

xp the video that was posted on the song's thread (the one with people dancing in some kind of a church...) was even better!

yeah that's amazing - half the length though

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:48 (fourteen years ago)

although I don't understand where you're getting "counterpoint melody" from, lex; in fact the melody is kind of the exact opposite of counterpoint in how 90% of it follows exactly the notes and rhythm of the baseline

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

danny daze is from miami, huh - makes sense

xp it's probably not the right term - i mean the weird metallic sounding synth in the background that comes in at each drop, at eg 4:43, and the wordless vocal hook at eg 5:55

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:52 (fourteen years ago)

call and response?

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:52 (fourteen years ago)

this is why i rarely pitch to write about dance music any more, can't think of any more ways to say "the synth that sounds like woo-ooh-ooh"

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

Hadn't heard that before - good song!

Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

voted for this
yeah the church dancing video is great!
there should be more threads on individual songs

Dan S, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

xxp to lex: I think the shorter edit is a bit better as an introduction to the tune - exhibits all the strengths and leaves the craving for repeats or the proper version

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

it's probably not the right term - i mean the weird metallic sounding synth in the background that comes in at each drop, at eg 4:43, and the wordless vocal hook at eg 5:55

lol, the video edit linked on the thread is 3:43 so no wonder I didn't hear any of that

Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:56 (fourteen years ago)

it'll be in the edit too! i don't know what the relevant times are in that though

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

also Lex is very OTM about all these melodic lines being intertwined (a better term...?) here, the "wordless vocal hook" coming surfacing out of nowhere rules hard

V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

there should be more threads on individual songs

if i started a new thread for every song i fell in love with it'd be, like, three a week and would be intolerable spam

I'm fine with this but I voted for the album and not any of the tracks.
