xp yeah I see your point there, but the song itself is kinda weak, doesn't *hook* me strong enough
― V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:10 (fourteen years ago)
what the hell is this
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:11 (fourteen years ago)
this is pleasant and totally forgettable

This is such a weird countdown. I mean. ILM always has a weird countdown, but usually it's one that I'm able to process.
Curious to see where we go from here.

the go team still exist in 2011?! god i remember REALLY hating them in the mid-00s ;_;
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:11 (fourteen years ago)
woohoo
― nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:11 (fourteen years ago)
It's great is what it is. My favourite jangle rock song of the year.
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:12 (fourteen years ago)
well so far that's selena and this on my ballot, both top 5s
― nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:12 (fourteen years ago)
That sums up The Go! Team in a nutshell (except that one song that's in the NFL Play60 commercials, which I probably remember only because the commercials air every day and every hour).
xps to DJP
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:12 (fourteen years ago)
Go! Team eh? Been a while since I've heard these. All I remember about them is having to edit their first album at home to get rid of the ridiculous amount of high end. Is this still cheerleader hiphop instrumentals?
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:12 (fourteen years ago)
the go team still exist in 2011?!
ha! this was my exact first thought
― lag∞n affiliated (The Reverend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:13 (fourteen years ago)
Thought the rest of the album was pretty inessential though.
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:13 (fourteen years ago)
I just want to cosign this real quik:
Rev has been making me into a Quik fan the last few weeks so I'm happy to see it on here. Thanks Rev!

the chorus is really nice but I likely will never play this song again
though it does remind me that I really love both Best Coast and The Monkees
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:13 (fourteen years ago)
First album is all-time though.
also because of the name, I am remembering how much I liked Alpha Team

I need to go back to that Best Coast record. I caned it pretty hard for like 2 months and then forgot all about it. <3 Bethany and Snacks.

haha xp
― lag∞n affiliated (The Reverend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:16 (fourteen years ago)
that go team track is v good, it was somewhere just on the outskirts of my ballot, happy to see it place
― johnny crunch, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:17 (fourteen years ago)
I was head bobbing to the Go Team. Reminds me of The Hummingbirds.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:18 (fourteen years ago)
Better than anything by the group proper: Ian Parton of The Go Team composed a song last year for Japanese idol group Momoiro Clover. It was released on labor day and is basically a 70s socialist protest song re-imagined as idol pop. Lyrics are amazing: http://youtu.be/Krj3dwKEaSk

Wow, my #1 and #2 in consecutive order.
"Get Away" was probably too pastichey for most, especially for people who grew up with Dinosaur Jr etc, but it hit the sweet spot for me. I was somewhat post-grunge and the guys in Yuck probably are as well - for us the early '90s alt scene represents acquired knowledge about a particular atmosphere and sound rather than real memories. I love the high guitar hook. The buildup to the "I can't get this feeling off my mind" chorus is extremely effective - it takes a long time to get there and they do a good job with volume along the way. The track is more complex conceptually than it initially lets on.
"Buy Nothing Day" manages to be both symphonic/epic and totally unserious and fun. It suffers from being a BIT too long but that's about it.

The Go Team is not only v pretty, but pretty forgettable
― V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:20 (fourteen years ago)
acquired knowledge about a particular atmosphere and sound rather than real memories
That's how I embraced the post-punk thing about a decade ago, so I feel you.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:22 (fourteen years ago)
Love The Go Team track, guess I'm one of the few people that loved the album too. Really didn't expect to like anything by them again after such a boring second album.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:22 (fourteen years ago)
also didnt really like the Yuck song, agree with V79 that the hook wasnt really there, and the video pissed me the fuck off
otoh it did remind me to brush up on my Eric's Trip. thanks for that Yuck!

that battles album sucked unfortunately
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:24 (fourteen years ago)
I quite like the Go Team track, but I'm rapidly giving up hope for my ballot.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:25 (fourteen years ago)
this is a desolate stretch for me
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:25 (fourteen years ago)
Was really looking forward to the album after hearing this track but was left disappointed by it. Love this track tho.
― pandemic, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:25 (fourteen years ago)
who is voting for this stuff
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:26 (fourteen years ago)
Battles album was disappointing but this track was solid.
― skip, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:26 (fourteen years ago)
"Ice Cream" is a song that I admire more than I actually like. It's good at what it does but I don't feel an emotional connection to it the way that I did to songs on Mirrored (particularly "Race-In", "Atlas", "Ddiamondd", "Leyendecker", "Tij")
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)
I thought that "Africastle" and "My Machines" were much better tbh

Go Team song is okay, and I like the video much much more...

lex, you might like the Battles album - it's really not a far stretch from the GGD record.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:31 (fourteen years ago)
have totally failed on hearing the new Battles (& old Battles for that matter) so happy to rectify this :)

hey, what a great bass sound at the end, love this!
― V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:31 (fourteen years ago)
tbh, it's only 7 people out of 122. they just really, really liked it.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:32 (fourteen years ago)
'Ice Cream' is almost certainly the worst thing that Matias Aguayo has ever been involved with.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:32 (fourteen years ago)
i heard the first battles album and no just no, unlistenable, thought it was a joke at first
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:32 (fourteen years ago)
oh wait i've seen this before... *xposts*
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)
haha come on, the Battles album is lex kryptonite; about the only way it could be less lexish would be if every track featured John Lydon shouting Mariah lyrics over it and ad libbing about how terrible and base they are
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)
Didn't like the Battles album. Voted for The Go! Team, having previously gone right off them after the first album. The Yuck track is pastichey in a good way.
