QUIK!
― Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)
Still need to hear that Quik album!
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)
it is as incredible as a quik album. like all quik records. guy is a straight up genius, only wish i knew this 10 years ago and didn't have to cram in the past 2.
― Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:38 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, I never read the rolling threads either, they feel to much like they're only for people "in the know", whereas I'm not following any genre closely enough anymore to really participate.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:39 (fourteen years ago)
(x-post to V79)
also suga free's hair looks like a wig and i giggle everytime i see it.
― Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:39 (fourteen years ago)
Great start to the list today. Nobody is easily my favourite song on the album.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:40 (fourteen years ago)
quik!
it feels so weird listening to this song in the winter, lol.
"nobody" emerged quite a while before the album iirc - maybe even in 2010? - it is excellent but "across the map" is my favourite on the album
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:40 (fourteen years ago)
damn this is like being in a time machine, is this 2012 or 1997
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:40 (fourteen years ago)
re: youtube, you do know you're not honour bound to actually watch the screen while a song is playing
That's one of my favourites on the Quik album, love the beat and Suga Free's verse.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:41 (fourteen years ago)
i like it on youtube when you open a song in another window and you think the advert is actually the start of the song
― nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:41 (fourteen years ago)
Not the Quik track I voted for, but I can roll with it

I didn't get around to going through the Spotify playlist for the nominated tracks but that's ok, there were already more than enough familiar things to choose from and it felt kind of right to vote for the songs I'd been loving all year. I did pick up some good stuff from the albums list though!
― Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:43 (fourteen years ago)
Pretty sure i didn't vote for any individual Quik tracks cos i had the album so high
― Number None, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:43 (fourteen years ago)
glad quik/suga free placed!
thoughts on some of the first gang:
77 - SELENA GOMEZ & THE SCENE "Love You Like a Love Song" (182 Points, 6 Votes, 2 First-Place Votes)This is bog standard as fuck, huh?
76 - GANG GANG DANCE "Glass Jar" (182 Points, 8 Votes)I've been thoroughly skeptical of this band, but I think I like this more than any GGD song I've heard before! I so much associate with that ramshackle dance thing they do that I never would have assumed they're really good at this kind of epic sweep.
75 - PISTOL ANNIES "Hell on Heels" (183 Points, 7 Votes)Didn't vote for this but I already knew I loved it. The slow burn, the harmonies, the lyrics - especially "He made me pretty/ he made me smart/ and I'm gonna break me a million hearts."
74 - tUnE-yArDs "Bizness" (184 Points, 6 Votes)I respect the enthusiasm and to a lesser extent the cod-afrobeat, but Floppy otm.
73 - MOGWAI "Music for a Forgotten Future (The Singing Mountain)" (189 Points, 5 Votes)This is long and pretty but way longer than and not as pretty as the Gang Gang Dance. It wears out its welcome.
72 - THE JOY FORMIDABLE "Whirring" (189 Points, 8 Votes)Indie! This is spirited and all but seems have made its point in the first two minutes. The build at the end is exciting, but it really sags in between those two points.
TIE-70 - JUNIOR BOYS "Banana Ripple" (190 Points, 7 Votes)A lot better than I expected from them at this point, but kind of pleasant and minor.
TIE-70 - BIG SEAN ft. NICKI MINAJ "Dance (A$$) Remix" (190 Points, 7 Votes)I voted for this. When it first came out, I thought it was another case of Nicki lifting up a bad song. Then I heard the original version come on the radio. Even though I felt like a toddler who had his candy stolen when the second verse came on, I realized that it's still a jam in Nicki's absense. She just pushes it over the top. Please note: this is not a defense of Big Sean, who raps like Farnsworth Bentley.

I feel like omitting the Quik album was one of my biggest musical mistakes this year, every cut I get to hear is brilliant
― V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:47 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, I wish I'd have voted for Quik too.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
quik album was my #3. didn't vote for any tracks from it tho.
― lag∞n affiliated (The Reverend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:50 (fourteen years ago)
lol I thought the line in the chorus goes "I only care 'bout weed"
― V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:52 (fourteen years ago)
Rev has been making me into a Quik fan the last few weeks so I'm happy to see it on here. Thanks Rev!
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:52 (fourteen years ago)

― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:53 (fourteen years ago)
they were invisible.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:54 (fourteen years ago)
I'd been holding back on them for reasons of terrible band name
― Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:54 (fourteen years ago)

what it's a great band name!
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:55 (fourteen years ago)
What kind of band/artist name is "Yuck"?
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:56 (fourteen years ago)
i unashamedly love the yuck record
― Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:56 (fourteen years ago)
yuck
― lag∞n affiliated (The Reverend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:56 (fourteen years ago)
I mean, if you name your band like that, you're practically inviting everyone to make the obvious joke. See also: Carbage.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:57 (fourteen years ago)
I am shocked, I am really enjoying this Yuck track
I just assumed I would despise them but they are doing a "melodic Pixies pastiche" thing that's like the flipside of the stuff I liked about the Cage the Elephant album
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:58 (fourteen years ago)
(hahaha, x-post with Rev!)
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:58 (fourteen years ago)
xp: Carbage?
Dinosaur Jr. Jr. do write some catchy stuff.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:58 (fourteen years ago)
2 first place votes! Guess I better listen to it then.
― pandemic, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:58 (fourteen years ago)
Sorry, I meant Garbage.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)
roffling because I'm imagining every video being Shirley Manson just stuffing her face with bread and pasta
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)
Get Away was my #16. It's total nostalgia-bait for me, and while I can take-or-leave the rest of the album, as soon as that scorching lead riff comes in and she starts singing that bit that sounds like "Summer suuuu-n came but Iii-'m here..." I'm transported back to so many teenage summers kicking around the town centre and hanging around with girls at free festivals and learning the guitar and wearing bad clothes and ripped jeans. It's a beautiful track.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)
Pastichey as hell but I do like this.
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)
yuck song is great, just a really solid song.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:00 (fourteen years ago)
i think yuck are the lowest scorers ever on the jukebox http://www.thesinglesjukebox.com/?p=2988
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:00 (fourteen years ago)
quik was reasonable enough - prob best so far

― Cashmere Combabe, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:00 (fourteen years ago)
it's extremely nsfw
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:01 (fourteen years ago)

― nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:01 (fourteen years ago)
lol I didn't even watch it, just pressed play and switched tabs
is it, like, 4 minutes of exposed labia/glans?
― Chaka Collar, lemme rock you (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:02 (fourteen years ago)
love that idea
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:02 (fourteen years ago)
