(I probably have five songs on my ballot that I'd guess are 'locks'; two of which I'm half-expecting to show up today...I know it's pretty greedy of me but I was really kind of hoping to have a few more besides those place, but you never know, I suppose...)
(and now to Facebook..!)

Never heard of Countdown or Super Bass, so...
oh come ON
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:48 (fourteen years ago)
D.A.M. Not really - unless maybe I've heard them in passing. Just looked and they're by Beyonce and Nicki Minaj who aren't really a part of my sphere, although I really enjoyed the Beyonce performance on Glastonbury footage and everything I've heard by Minaj I've very much enjoyed too, but yeah - I don't get to hear much radio pop in my day-to-day life as I don't drive and my work doesn't allow me to listen to music in the day and when I'm home it's mostly my own collection.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:52 (fourteen years ago)
It's why these annual countdowns are so good - because I get to hear lots of stuff I wouldn't normally hear, or I can put an artist/track name to whatever tune's been floating around all year.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:53 (fourteen years ago)
which is why we should do this poll every single day (twice on busy days)
― nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:57 (fourteen years ago)
it's cool dl; I hadn't heard LMFAO until like last week; I kept on waiting for Taio Cruz to start singing..
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:02 (fourteen years ago)
Haha, I remember getting a promo LMFAO single a couple of years back, looking at it and going 'WTF?'

I didn't vote, I kinda got lost between the sandbox turnover. Which is a shame because I started the spotify nom tracklist and spent fucking hours finding and listening to so much stuff. And came to love 2011!
List is p OTM and amazing so far, kudos everyone.
I think whoever said spotify has helped the list be more dance-y is OTM. I've never liked rolling threads* because it seems so inner-circle and I get lost from not starting with the same knowledge as everyone else but having easy access to tunes people love and want others to listen to has bought so much to my attention that I would have never really got involved with before.
*The only one I love is rolling rap because it is basically deej acting quasi-autistic with youtubes I can listen to 4 at a time. I know lots of people hate this formula though.

Yes, images are awesome. So far, of the new to me tracks, I totally love the Invisible Conga People, Tuccillo, and Locussolus ones.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:17 (fourteen years ago)
122 people voted dude, I think that's a pretty reasonable turnout.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:20 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah all the house ones are great. I've only heard "Can't Feel My Knees" by ICP so far though - yet to check out this one.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:20 (fourteen years ago)
oh fucking hell lex, stop being a dick. it is only an ilm poll, it is not the fucking general election.

i think more people would vote in a general election where the-dream was a candidate

People not voting only matters when they start bitching about the results

thanks Sean. Should make for a diverse set of results.

More voters = more representative, more inclusive, more fun imo. But yeah, I'm happy with the turnout.

this is why i hate spotify too
SO MUCH isn't on it

I think Kerr was saying something along these lines on the metal countdown. I don't read many of the rolling threads either for the reasons you mention and also because I can't watch YouTubes at work or on the train (no signal) and I fucking hate staring at YouTube vids on my computer at home, so threads with lots of in-jokes + YouTube videos are useless to me. If a single track or album's worth shouting about, start a thread IMO.

I dont have a problem with the metal thread, i never said that, i just mentioned that it is intimidating to a lot of ppl and they just dont read it. Which means a lot of stuff gets passed over.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:30 (fourteen years ago)
haha. thing is, often when I do get to watch a Youtube it can impress me greatly. I don't think a track like Yonkers could have the kind of impact it did without the video, which encapsulates in three minutes what Goblin tries to do in 74. I'm always mourning the death of the album cover as visual signifier and yet I guess YouTube vids have replaced album artwork for this. I just can't be dealing with low-qual, rip-off and amateur vids, and I don't like the way you stare at a vid for 3 mins then have to load another one. Haven't got so far as trying to make a Youtube playlist. Maybe I should try. Would def use YouTube more if I could compile a bunch of vids and then let them play through in full screen without having to touch my mouse. Is that possible? If so that would rock.
It is possible, isn't it?

damn, I'm so excited for the results! I'm happy to see so many tracks I didn't hear (or even hear of) before., makes me wonder where do they all come from, is it all those thousand posts long, impossible for me to follow rolling threads? "A$$ Remix" blew me away and got on a heavy repeat today, along with this 3BallMTY thing (the chorus sung by a lady - gorgeous). nothing from my ballot has scored yet, though.
xps - oh, glad I'm not the only one who dislikes rolling threads. makes me wish more notable songs would earn their own threads, maybe that would help a bit?
― V79, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:35 (fourteen years ago)

I was referring to when you said it was worth "campaigning" for tracks/albums outside of the metal thread because people from outside of it might be tempted to check it out. I grabbed a bunch of albums randomly out of the metal countdown and I'm quite enjoying them. But like you said, If Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats had been confined to Rolling Metal, us toe-dippers would be a lot worse off.

it is as incredible as a quik album. like all quik records. guy is a straight up genius, only wish i knew this 10 years ago and didn't have to cram in the past 2.

Yeah, I never read the rolling threads either, they feel to much like they're only for people "in the know", whereas I'm not following any genre closely enough anymore to really participate.

― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:40 (fourteen years ago)
quik!
it feels so weird listening to this song in the winter, lol.
"nobody" emerged quite a while before the album iirc - maybe even in 2010? - it is excellent but "across the map" is my favourite on the album

That's one of my favourites on the Quik album, love the beat and Suga Free's verse.

i like it on youtube when you open a song in another window and you think the advert is actually the start of the song

I didn't get around to going through the Spotify playlist for the nominated tracks but that's ok, there were already more than enough familiar things to choose from and it felt kind of right to vote for the songs I'd been loving all year. I did pick up some good stuff from the albums list though!
― Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:43 (fourteen years ago)
Pretty sure i didn't vote for any individual Quik tracks cos i had the album so high
― Number None, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:43 (fourteen years ago)
glad quik/suga free placed!
thoughts on some of the first gang:
77 - SELENA GOMEZ & THE SCENE "Love You Like a Love Song" (182 Points, 6 Votes, 2 First-Place Votes)This is bog standard as fuck, huh?
76 - GANG GANG DANCE "Glass Jar" (182 Points, 8 Votes)I've been thoroughly skeptical of this band, but I think I like this more than any GGD song I've heard before! I so much associate with that ramshackle dance thing they do that I never would have assumed they're really good at this kind of epic sweep.
75 - PISTOL ANNIES "Hell on Heels" (183 Points, 7 Votes)Didn't vote for this but I already knew I loved it. The slow burn, the harmonies, the lyrics - especially "He made me pretty/ he made me smart/ and I'm gonna break me a million hearts."
74 - tUnE-yArDs "Bizness" (184 Points, 6 Votes)I respect the enthusiasm and to a lesser extent the cod-afrobeat, but Floppy otm.
73 - MOGWAI "Music for a Forgotten Future (The Singing Mountain)" (189 Points, 5 Votes)This is long and pretty but way longer than and not as pretty as the Gang Gang Dance. It wears out its welcome.
72 - THE JOY FORMIDABLE "Whirring" (189 Points, 8 Votes)Indie! This is spirited and all but seems have made its point in the first two minutes. The build at the end is exciting, but it really sags in between those two points.
TIE-70 - JUNIOR BOYS "Banana Ripple" (190 Points, 7 Votes)A lot better than I expected from them at this point, but kind of pleasant and minor.
TIE-70 - BIG SEAN ft. NICKI MINAJ "Dance (A$$) Remix" (190 Points, 7 Votes)I voted for this. When it first came out, I thought it was another case of Nicki lifting up a bad song. Then I heard the original version come on the radio. Even though I felt like a toddler who had his candy stolen when the second verse came on, I realized that it's still a jam in Nicki's absense. She just pushes it over the top. Please note: this is not a defense of Big Sean, who raps like Farnsworth Bentley.
