Does the beginning of this Selena Gomez song borrow from some other obvious and famous song or does it just give that illusion?
― John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 01:46 (fourteen years ago)
That Tuneyards screenshot is kind of like what I do when I have a really bad sinus headache, no exaggeration.
― John Gaw Meme (_Rudipherous_), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 01:49 (fourteen years ago)
I voted for a bunch (well, out of a smallish ballot) of dance tracks this year (thanks mostly to the Spotify tracks list), but in a lot of cases I have no idea how big a thing they were on ILM.
I think Barbara Panther is kind of like Tuneyards (if more Bjorkish, on that tracks anyway). Not into either.

^yea, i hope smthg actually places tho. my favorite is actually "what i've lost" but that track is hella old so i just bumped "walk and talk" up a few places. which is my 2nd favorite, so w/e
― psychgawsple, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 05:45 (fourteen years ago)
ffs why don't people bother to vote? it's not like the timing of this is a surprise or the various threads haven't been obviously at the top of new answers for ages. and then they come in here and complain smh
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 07:44 (fourteen years ago)
next year i am in favour of personal harassment to get the votes in
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 07:45 (fourteen years ago)
What I've Lost is like Super Bass in that it was previously released but then rereleased last year to make a bigger impact. It counts, although I think Paper Planes actually made the top five two years running.

love dance (a$$)the rest of this can fuck off
the rest of this can fuck off
― billstevejim, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 08:30 (fourteen years ago)
Listening back, the ICP definitely sounds better in January than at the start of last summer. And this is one of the Barbara Panther songs I remember liking.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 08:37 (fourteen years ago)
if the steffi track made it, i wonder if deniz kurtel's "the l word" will?
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 08:48 (fourteen years ago)
(which i thought was (even) better)
Fine with the verses on Coming Home but good grief the chorus.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 08:57 (fourteen years ago)
so far loved 3ballmty and the Lucossolus of the stuff I hadn't heard. THANKS People who voted for them.
comment re: Tuneyards embarrassing furious masturbation so OTM
also agree Coming Home is ruined by Skylar Grey and would pick nearly every other track on the album over it.
― Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 09:47 (fourteen years ago)
I like the Tune-Yards song, although it's the only one I know by her. I hear it as a sort of bluesy wail, which is kind of cool - also like the androgynous quality of her voice. It's all good to me.

in hindsight, i'm DOUBLE glad i gave so many points to selena gomezso far love the barbara panther track (and unchained) and that amazing locussolus trackawesome list so far

Am I the only one who's bothered by people referring to "ICP", because it makes me think of this...?

yeah it's been really good, eclectic and full of shit i've not heard of which is the way i like it. just hope as we get further to the top it isn't full of megabore indie hits and kanye/drake related stuff
― Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 12:06 (fourteen years ago)
3ballmty trk is fantastic, the pick of the stuff I hadn't previously heard.
― pandemic, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 12:06 (fourteen years ago)
can we just replace video games with 'jason derulo - fight for you' when it appears? really bummed i didn't nominate it :(
― nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 12:08 (fourteen years ago)
In case anyone was wondering: the breakdown of the ballots was 77 weighted, 24 unweighted and 21 mixed.
Also, I've just run the user stats and they underline the point that was already made about votes being much more spread out this year. This year's highest hivemind score (average points for tracks on a ballot) is 344, which would have put the voter in question at 9th in last years poll. Nobody has more than 16 tracks in the top 77 (last year the highest was 21).
On the other hand, the top 3 tracks this year have more points than last year's winner so it hasn't all gone crazy. Anyway, it's hard to posit a trend with just two years' information.
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 12:53 (fourteen years ago)
I don't think there have been as many absolute locks for the list as previous years, so no surprise it's more spread out. I mean, we know full well that Video Games, Countdown, Super Bass etc will turn up, but beyond maybe 10 or so absolute bankers it's wide open.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 12:55 (fourteen years ago)
i found that was the case with my own ballot too - beyond a few bankers it was even more of a toss-up between, literally, 80-90 others. lots of the ones i've raved over here i didn't even vote for (but if i'd voted on another day i would have), like steffi/john talabot/selena gomez/tuccillo/big sean. actually i'm not sure any of my actual votes have shown up yet despite cosigning the majority of tracks so far!
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:01 (fourteen years ago)
Tracks I went unweighted, 23 of the 25 tracks have absolutely zero chance of making the 77. 1 is a lock for top 10 at least, 1 i've no idea about
Albums i went weighted, as there were only 4 - My number 1 album I only heard after scanning the nomination list, I haven't actually heard it properly yet

Never heard of Countdown or Super Bass, so... What about Yonkers and 212 and possibly Queen Of Hearts?
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:40 (fourteen years ago)
Oh and I Be Beastin' had better make top ten too..

dog latin, you've never heard of Super Bass or Countdown?
oh man now I'm gonna have to post youtubes on your Facebook wall all day...
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:45 (fourteen years ago)
(I probably have five songs on my ballot that I'd guess are 'locks'; two of which I'm half-expecting to show up today...I know it's pretty greedy of me but I was really kind of hoping to have a few more besides those place, but you never know, I suppose...)
(and now to Facebook..!)

oh come ON
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:48 (fourteen years ago)
D.A.M. Not really - unless maybe I've heard them in passing. Just looked and they're by Beyonce and Nicki Minaj who aren't really a part of my sphere, although I really enjoyed the Beyonce performance on Glastonbury footage and everything I've heard by Minaj I've very much enjoyed too, but yeah - I don't get to hear much radio pop in my day-to-day life as I don't drive and my work doesn't allow me to listen to music in the day and when I'm home it's mostly my own collection.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:52 (fourteen years ago)
It's why these annual countdowns are so good - because I get to hear lots of stuff I wouldn't normally hear, or I can put an artist/track name to whatever tune's been floating around all year.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:53 (fourteen years ago)
which is why we should do this poll every single day (twice on busy days)
― nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 13:57 (fourteen years ago)
it's cool dl; I hadn't heard LMFAO until like last week; I kept on waiting for Taio Cruz to start singing..
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:02 (fourteen years ago)
Haha, I remember getting a promo LMFAO single a couple of years back, looking at it and going 'WTF?'
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:08 (fourteen years ago)
^hopes this gets quoted as a blurb if/when they eventually place

I didn't vote, I kinda got lost between the sandbox turnover. Which is a shame because I started the spotify nom tracklist and spent fucking hours finding and listening to so much stuff. And came to love 2011!
List is p OTM and amazing so far, kudos everyone.
I think whoever said spotify has helped the list be more dance-y is OTM. I've never liked rolling threads* because it seems so inner-circle and I get lost from not starting with the same knowledge as everyone else but having easy access to tunes people love and want others to listen to has bought so much to my attention that I would have never really got involved with before.
*The only one I love is rolling rap because it is basically deej acting quasi-autistic with youtubes I can listen to 4 at a time. I know lots of people hate this formula though.

OK next year I am genuinely going to HARASS YOU ALL BY EMAIL like a FUCKING PR. fucking hell i am the most disorganised person i know and i managed to do it.
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:15 (fourteen years ago)
Yes, images are awesome. So far, of the new to me tracks, I totally love the Invisible Conga People, Tuccillo, and Locussolus ones.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:17 (fourteen years ago)
122 people voted dude, I think that's a pretty reasonable turnout.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:20 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah all the house ones are great. I've only heard "Can't Feel My Knees" by ICP so far though - yet to check out this one.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:20 (fourteen years ago)
oh fucking hell lex, stop being a dick. it is only an ilm poll, it is not the fucking general election.
― Aesop Rizzle (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:20 (fourteen years ago)
how many people voted in the albums rundown? I failed to :-(
― good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:21 (fourteen years ago)
I think whoever said spotify has helped the list be more dance-y is OTM
If I'd thought about the spotify thing I might have changed my nominations, dropped out all the ones that weren't on there
― Cashmere Combabe, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:22 (fourteen years ago)
i think more people would vote in a general election where the-dream was a candidate
― nathey, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:22 (fourteen years ago)
People not voting only matters when they start bitching about the results
― Number None, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:23 (fourteen years ago)
131 ballots for the albums poll
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:23 (fourteen years ago)
thanks Sean. Should make for a diverse set of results.
