not sure if i did but i woulda voted for this one. benoit & sergio is gonna suffer from vote splitting. todd terje will place high (both hopefully) and i imagine some hot creations stuff will place.

Voted for "Surgeon" - at first it felt like there's nothing there, yet all the bits and pieces of that nothing got stuck in my head for hours. I love that bleepy line behind the chorus.

I'm not really too thrilled w/ this St Vincent song; I also feel a little to blame because of my bitching about sameyness in the poll

Hahaha, I like this. JF are very mid-90s big-sound rock played by a Welsh (?) 3-piece (?) but what got me into them was watching Glastonbury footage of A Heavy Abacus and watching this tiny little blonde lady looking like she was about to be swept away by the sound of her own enormous guitar sound.

Love Surgeon, especially the bit where it goes all Cocteau Twins like before the music drops out leaving that really addictive guitar line.

I like that slightly odd scratchy guitar on the St Vincent track. But not particularly moved by any other element of it.

i feel like this was such a good year though that it kindof dilutes the pool. like i voted for a lot of stuff that was massive for me that i kindof realise now might not be on the list at all.

idk seeing 'in a hole' place makes me p hopeful for some other stuff that we might have both voted for

<3 3ballMTY. glad to see in a hole place, can sort of see nickb's stott/blake comparison but icp have way more of a groove than what i've heard of those two. played this track to death this year. the i want it remix is too rich for everyday listening but imo it's important that such things exist

I voted for 'What I've Lost' as well (really quite high actually) but never thought of it as something with any consensus behind it. Hopefully I was wrong and it will place after all (it's the only Benoit & Sergio track where their prissy Paul Simon side really works).

I hated most of the St Bernard album but that's because when I first heard Surgeon I thought it was really lovely and was hugely irritated by the constant dicking around on the rest of the album.

i'm thinking this will definitely be true for me. great year for dance music, but not a whole lot of consensus from what i could tell. i think "walk & talk" should do well, though benoit & sergio will suffer from vote-splitting (btw, "what i've lost" originally came out in 2009, didn't it?) i voted for a less-loved danny daze track b/c i just liked it too much more than the consensus pick to be strategic about it.

"coming home" is totally dope, but it feels like 2 years old to me at this point

Steffi record prob best so far but i find it kinda so-so - the rest of the last bunch didn't really make any impression

that invisible conga people record made me lol tho!

i liked the icp one, it might be my fav "new discovery" of the day... strangely i actually knew most of these, i'm pretty sure last yr most of the trax were new to me

The Joy Formidable - Much preferred this (and the other reprised songs) on 2009's A Balloon Called Moaning EP, too many stadium rock gestures here. Still, its wish-fulfillment for Tanya Donelly fans.

Barbara Panther - doomed to be shadowed by Bjork, but I like Panther's politics and melodic sense more.

Locussolus, Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas - fun cheese. The most fun cheese this year, in fact.

Going through the tracks on the playlist so far—only 15 of the 17 are available :( —any notion that the results are "samey" is kind of baffling.

Well I'm guessing the "samey" is more in terms of genres represented more than actual "sound" of the songs. I mean, similar complaints if we hit a long run of indie rock songs in a row.

Oh wait, the Mogwai is available in the UK if someone wants to drop it in the playlist (even though US'ers won't be able to hear it).
